Chapter 259 - Chapter 258: The Written Exam!

Kirito placed his hand on the stack of paper, grinned, and said, "Of course, it's your favorite written exam."

Hearing this, several students in the classroom couldn't help but groan in protest. They just couldn't understand why they still had to take the written test when even the weakest of them had enough strength to overpower an ordinary Chunin.

They could already set practical traps, outsmart the average Shinobi, develop counterattack plans in mere moments, and do a lot more.

They were S-class students for fuck's sake.

They had even memorized the entire history of Shinobi, practical intelligence work, and studied an entire encyclopedia's worth of herbs, minerals, and chakra beasts.

But they had no other choice.

The Students: Forget it. We just have to fill out a paper. It will be over soon. No need to make such a fuss.

Of course, Seimei wasn't complaining. As a transmigrator and the son of the Hokage, he perfectly understood the main goals of the written exams.

Heh! The written exam isn't here just to test our knowledge of ninja arts, the history of the Shinobi continent, and the chakra beasts.

The ninjas and Konoha higher-ups aren't bored enough to do that. They know very well that students who are about to graduate have covered those fundamental topics well.

Its main goal is to test the loyalty of the graduating students and judge if they have been brainwashed by the doctrine of Konoha well enough.

The village needs loyal ninjas who won't hesitate to sacrifice their lives for the sake of Konoha, after all.

They are also looking for students with good leadership qualities.

Seimei sighed and thought inwardly. He could only say that the higher-ups of any governing body were bound to be incredibly sly and manipulative, regardless of the type of world.

Greedy and manipulative bastards, lots of them.

Oh wait! He, as the son of the Hokage, was also a part of this manipulative circle.

Well, never mind, then.

Power and capitalism were not bad things.

They were only bad when you were not at the top of the food chain in those systems.

And as the son of the Second Hokage, he was nearly at the pinnacle of the food chain.

With that, Seimei quickly wiped away his random thoughts and obediently waited for the written exam papers.

It was just looking at the questions, answering them, and submitting the paper. Apart from being a bit of a hassle, it wasn't anything difficult at all.

On second thought, some students might still have difficulty.

The moment the last thought crossed his mind, Seimei couldn't help but glance at Sarutobi Yuto.

Seeing Yuto foolishly scratching the back of his head, Seimei's expression suddenly grew a little strange. Seimei's ocean-blue eyes suddenly filled with a trace of pity.

He couldn't help it.

In his eyes, Yuto was a classic combat genius who had a tough time explaining his actions constructively.

For example, Yuto could attack using the throwing ninja tools, such as kunai, shurikens, and senbon, in the most creative ways to hit his targets.

His mental calculations were lightning fast.

He could instantly calculate the angle, power, and the precise point of throw with pinpoint precision while also taking the wind speed, pressure, and other environmental factors into account.

But if you ask him how he did it, his answer would be: "Huh? What do you mean by how I did it? Isn't it obvious? You just throw it like 'swish' and 'swah'. And then 'thwak', it will hit the target in no time. How difficult can it be?"

Thinking about this, Seimei's lips twitched. He almost laughed out loud.

Control, Seimei. Don't laugh out loud.

As Seimei was trying to suppress his laugh, Kamishiro Kirito started preparing to distribute the test paper to all his students.

Kirito simply made two hand seals at a speed so fast that his fingers blurred.

At the next moment, a strange gust blew, carrying the stack of papers. The stack of papers was separated, and the gentle wind carried each set of test papers to the student's desk.

It was a display of refined wind chakra control that even many full-fledged Jonin specializing in Wind Release techniques would have a hard time showcasing.

After all, most ninjas relied on Ninjutsu to perform very specific offensive, crowd control, and defensive moves.

Freely controlling elements without deploying any kind of Ninjutsu was a huge hurdle for ninjas that many failed to cross in their lives.

And Kamishiro Kirito did such a thing easily with just two hand seals. He didn't use any Ninjutsu to control the wind.

But the students didn't even bat an eye at such a display. They had seen him do it countless times in the last five years.

They were already numb.

What's more, they could probably do much more than that in the future, as long as they didn't slack off or end up dying early.

Seimei looked at the test paper on his desk and looked at the smug expression on Kamishiro Kirito's face.

He really had to rein in the urge to smack his own forehead in exasperation.

Tch! Tch! Kirito-sensei, it's just that your Wind affinity and chakra control have reached LV5, allowing you to perform that trick. Can you stop feeling so smug?

I can do it with my eyes closed, and I won't even need hand seals.

Seimei thought with a slight disdain, completely forgetting about his Otsutsuki bloodline advantage and the difficulty the average ninja faced in developing their chakra control and nature affinity to LV5.

Clap!

As soon as every student got their test papers, Kirito clapped his hands again, attracting the attention of every student.

He said, "Alright, students. Now that you have gotten your test papers, you have five minutes to write your names, class credentials, and check the questions."

"Remember, just observe the questions. Don't answer them yet."

"After five minutes, I will give you the signal to start the exam officially. From that point on, you will have two hours to finish the paper."

"I hope everything's clear?"

Kirito stopped speaking at this moment, and the students gave him silent nods.

Seeing this, Kirito grinned and said, "Oh, one last thing."

The students who were about to fill out their names and relevant details stopped their pens and looked at Kirito with a questioning gaze.

Kirito's eyes turned sharp. He was still smiling, but that smile didn't reach his eyes.

He said in a rather menacing tone, "You can think about cheating. Thinking is no crime, after all."

"But you shouldn't do that for real."

"Because if I catch you, the consequences will be…"

Kirito's menacing gaze scanned every student, especially students like Sarutobi Yuto, before finishing the sentence.

"...rather severe."

"So, behave like proper, honest children, okay?"

Students who had been caught cheating during exams several times in the past gulped nervously and quickly nodded like little chicks pecking their food.

However, the Hyuga and the Uchiha clan students weren't nervous at all.

They simply hid their smirks.

Uchiha Touma thought, Hmm…just activating my Sharingan to look at the questions carefully and enjoy the beauty of the walls isn't a crime, right?

Of course not.

I am just taking the exam seriously. How could activating Sharingan be cheating?

Then he saw Ishimori Haenda and Sarutobi Yuto looking at him while gritting their teeth.

Sharingan's insight ability allowed its wielders to observe the hand movements of others to figure out exactly what they were writing. And Touma used that ability with relish.

They knew how Touma cheated using Sharingan. Touma knew that they knew it.

And all of them knew that even their teacher knew about Touma cheating using Sharingan.

But hey, there was no proof that he was cheating, so nobody could say anything.

So, Touma simply gave Haneda and Yuto a mocking smirk.

Hehe…glare.

Glare at me to your heart's content, my friends.

After all, that is all you can do.

Curse your own ill fates for not being born with a pair of Sharingan.

Touma thought inwardly before shifting his focus to his exam papers.

If Haneda and Yuto knew what Touma was thinking, they would have surely joined hands to beat the shit out of him.

Meanwhile, Seimei had just finished filling out the name and class credential sections.

He twirled the pen in his fingers and thought, It means cheating is fine as long as we don't get caught, doesn't it? Hmm…it's not like I will need to cheat.

History of the Shinobi (The last five hundred years)? I have long memorized them. Chakra beast, herbs, and minerals? The same. Tactical problems, physics, biology, and math equations? Too easy.

Ninja arts-related questions? Couldn't have been easier.

It's just the essay section that requires some thought.

Just as Seimei was immersed in his inner monologue, he heard Kirito's voice once more.

Kirito said, "The five minutes are over, students."

After saying that, Kamishiro Kirito paused for a moment. Every student's attention, including Seimei's, turned to him.

And he looked at the oversized clock hung on the classroom wall before saying, "And your exam starts…now!"
