Another night and full day had passed, with the ceremony and Blood Moon just one rest away.
The day had been relatively uneventful, despite the liveliness within the walls of the Citadel. Finally, that evening, the entire fortress became still.
After the last echoes of revelry from another feast faded from the hall, silence returned. The fires burned low, their embers sighing in the hearths, and outside, the wind keened faintly across the ridges.
The moon above was already shifting, its silver hue deepening toward a reddish hue. By tomorrow night, it would be as dark as blood.
