"Ha—So this is how it ends?"

Rebecca strolled through the factory grounds, her plump thighs bouncing as she searched for a patch of ground still firm enough to stand on amidst the sea of dead bodies.

Her face was rather dejected as she gazed at the scene of corpses, her expression showing that she hadn't had her fill of the carnage.

"Shit, this job's a killer. My damn arm's gone numb from all that shooting," Maine muttered, standing off to the side as he rubbed his right arm in frustration.

After firing off so many grenades tonight, his launcher was completely emptied. Even now, Maine could still feel a dull burning sensation around the implant.

In the age of widespread cyberware, even a fully mechanized arm could simulate nerve impulses through the brain, generating sensations like "touch" and "pain."

This was the first time Maine had ever depleted his entire grenade stock in a single battle. He could even smell the acrid stench of lingering gunpowder from his arm.

"That kid really blew me away tonight. How many people did he cut down with that katana? Maine, you got a count?"

Pira strolled over from wherever he had been hiding, his long cyberarm looped behind his head, lazily puffing on a cigarette.

"Who the hell knows," Maine grunted, thudding his right arm with a heavy fist. The jolt seemed to help, the numbness finally dulling.

Dorio stood beside him, staring at the young man in the distance who had just executed the last enemy. Her eyes were deep and wordless.

After a long silence, she glanced at the group and suddenly asked:

"Where's Sasha? Where did she go?"

"No clue. Didn't she come out with Lin Mo?" Maine frowned, unease rising in his chest at the thought of an unpleasant possibility.

"Sasha, where are you? Respond if you can hear me!" he called into the comms.

"I'm here!"

Everyone turned to see a familiar silhouette emerge from the factory. Sasha was stumbling under the weight of an unconscious woman slung over her back, slowly making her way toward the group.

"Could someone come help me out?" she asked, forcing a smile.

Dorio rushed over and lifted the woman onto her own shoulder, giving Sasha a curious glance.

"You carried her all the way up from the basement like that?"

Sasha shot a sour look at Lin Mo, who was now calmly sheathing his sword, then nodded.

"Were there a lot of enemies down there?" Rebecca asked as she bounced over, cyber-eye gleaming with curiosity.

"Not really. Just one. Tough bastard. Probably the head of this whole scav crew," Sasha replied casually, her eyes never leaving Lin Mo, who was now walking toward them.

"Oh? How strong was he? Compared to Maine?" Rebecca pressed eagerly.

"Honestly, I didn't do much. Lin Mo handled it mostly on his own," Sasha admitted, shaking her head.

She was about to say more, but her face suddenly changed as she darted forward.

Everyone looked up to see Lin Mo stumbling as he walked, his body swaying like he might collapse at any moment.

Sasha reached him just in time, steadying him before he could fall.

The others rushed over. Even Pira, unusually serious, didn't crack a joke.

"Hey, kid, how many times did you use Sandevistan tonight?"

"I... I don't know. Fifteen times? Maybe twenty?" Lin Mo muttered, clearly dazed, his head feeling like it was floating.

The group went silent, staring at him like he was some kind of freak.

"...You're out of your damn mind," Pira muttered.

Maine moved in, placing a strong hand on Lin Mo's back to steady him. He turned to Sasha.

"Link into his personal terminal. Check his vitals."

Though his mind was foggy, Lin Mo waved them off quickly, still lucid enough to protest.

"No, I'm fine. Just need to rest. Don't link into my personal terminal."

Letting someone connect to your interface was risky enough. But letting a netrunner like Sasha tap into it? She might have a daemon hidden and ready to dig through his files.

Lin Mo appreciated the concern. He trusted them. But that didn't mean exposing every secret he had.

In the end, he had pushed himself too far. No wonder he was so drained after using Sandevistan so many times in a single night.

Seeing his insistence, the others backed off. Maine helped him to Falco's parked vehicle, where they let Lin Mo lie down and rest.

Kitagawa had also come down from his sniper's perch. When he saw Lin Mo's state, concern crossed his face. But after checking that nothing was critical, he simply waited nearby for Lin Mo to recover.

Though Lin Mo's head throbbed like hell, he didn't pass out. He hovered between waking and fainting.

Now and then, blood dripped from his nose, and Kitagawa silently wiped it away with a tissue.

After ten minutes or so, Lin Mo finally stirred, slowly pushing himself upright.

His head still ached, but at least he no longer felt like he was going to collapse.

As he stepped out of the car, the night breeze cooled his burning skin, helping clear his head a little.

He looked around. Maine and the others were gone. Only Kitagawa was still there.

"Yo, kid. You're up. That was rough, huh? Gotta take better care of yourself," came Falco's voice from the driver's seat as he rolled down the window and smiled.

"Where is everyone?" Lin Mo asked, rubbing his temple.

"Maine and the others went back to the scav hideout. I had them sweep for supplies and figure out why so many of them were holed up here," Kitagawa explained.

Lin Mo leaned against the car and let out a faint "Mm." He closed his eyes for a moment, as though resting.

Nearly a hundred scavengers... No way they weren't backed by some corp.

Now that they were wiped out, it only made sense to pick through the wreckage for intel or gear.

Especially since the NCPD wouldn't bother patrolling the North Industrial District anytime soon.

They had plenty of time to scavenge something worthwhile.
