"This is impossible!"
Leviathan watched, wide-eyed, as Roy rose from the flames, reborn. Its serpentine eyes nearly popped out of its head.
Its outburst drew Roy's attention, who was still basking in the power of the Phoenix Force. The blazing phoenix flames wrapped around his body like a battle robe, looking perfectly natural.
Roy turned to face Leviathan, his eyes glinting dangerously.
"Well, if it isn't the King of Envy! It's been, what, a few minutes? And you're already looking this pathetic?"
As he spoke, Roy advanced toward Leviathan, each step amplifying his presence.
With his first step, Roy's aura surged past the Demon Lord level, reaching the tier of the Seven Demon Kings—though only at the level of Mammon, the weakest.
Mammon: What, I'm a power unit now?
By his second step, Roy's aura climbed to the level of the Upper Three Demon Kings, just shy of Leviathan's.
And with his third step, his presence surpassed Leviathan's entirely, radiating a power so intense it felt like staring into the sun.
The sheer, star-like vitality was too much for the King of Envy to face.
"This—this is impossible!"
Leviathan said it again, its mind in complete disarray.
In its tens of thousands of years, Leviathan had never seen anyone leap from Demon Lord to a power surpassing the Upper Three Demon Kings.
Roy glanced at his stats, noticing every attribute now read "MAX." Maybe that meant he'd hit the ceiling of this world's power scale.
So, what was Hell's limit?
"Leviathan, time to settle the score!"
Leviathan started to back away. The King of Envy was a pragmatic snake—when things looked bad, it was quick to play nice.
"Mr. Black, I think this is all a misunderstanding! I was ready to accept your terms, but that venom? I can't control it! Maybe we can call a truce?"
Roy paused, his face showing interest.
"A truce, huh? What's in it for me?"
"Oh, plenty! I've collected tons of treasures over the years—you can take your pick!"
Leviathan blinked, its earlier arrogance replaced with a fawning look, making Roy smirk.
"Not a bad offer! Alright, how about this: if you can take one punch from me, we'll call it even. Deal?"
"Deal!"
Leviathan agreed reflexively, then realized something was off as Roy clenched his fist, gathering power.
How to describe that power? Calling it mountain-shattering or earth-splitting felt too tame.
Let's put it this way: Roy was holding the equivalent of a nuclear bomb in his fist. The moment he swung, Leviathan felt death looming. It shrank to a juvenile snake form and barely dodged.
Boom!
The searing phoenix flames punched through the pyramid's wall, the explosion lighting up the sky.
For a moment, the creatures of the Ancient Sea thought dawn had come. But looking up, they saw not the sun but a blazing phoenix.
Roy shook his head, sighing lightly.
"Everyone saw that—the King of Envy didn't give me face, not the other way around."
Leviathan quickly grew back to its massive size, cursing furiously.
"You bastard! You never wanted to make peace!"
Roy shrugged, expressionless.
"Whoops, you caught me. So what're you gonna do about it?"
Leviathan froze, then a wave of humiliation hit—worse than taking a punch. It was always the King of Envy toying with others, but now it was the one being played.
"Roy Black, you're asking for it! You think I'm scared of you?"
Leviathan's rage erupted, abandoning any thought of peace. It wanted to swallow Roy whole.
Roy grinned.
"Let's do this, then. No more talking!"
"Outside!"
Leviathan shot through the hole Roy had blasted in the wall. This was its palace, after all—better not wreck it completely.
Roy agreed, especially since Eluresha was still unconscious in the corner. Fighting inside could put the little succubus in danger.
Before leaving, Roy conjured a protective shield of phoenix flames around Eluresha to keep her safe from the pyramid's juvenile snakes.
"Lord Black, can you take me with you?"
As Roy was about to fly off, the Fancy Scepter's voice piped up.
"You? Why?"
"I don't want to miss this epic battle!"
Roy thought for a moment, then raised his hand, and the scepter flew to him.
"Let's go, then!"
To his surprise, the Fancy Scepter transformed in his grip, turning deep crimson with a phoenix spreading its wings at the top, like it was infused with hellfire.
"Whoa, Lord Black, your energy's actually compatible with me!"
The scepter's tone had completely changed, now talking to Roy with the same respect it showed Alma.
Roy didn't know much about the Phoenix Force yet, having just awakened it. All he knew was that in Phoenix Form, all his stats were MAX, and his internal and external energy output were maxed out too.
"Let's move!"
Crimson phoenix-flame wings sprouted from Roy's back as he shot through the broken wall.
Leviathan was ready, coiled in the dark sky. Its full form was so massive Roy couldn't even see its entirety—thousands of kilometers long, its head like a mountain. Roy looked tiny in comparison.
"Roy Black, this is the true power of the King of Envy!"
Leviathan's voice boomed louder than thunder, scaring the Ancient Sea creatures below into fleeing.
"Dumbass! You think loud means strong?"
"What'd you say?"
Roy had spoken normally, and with their size difference—like a blue whale talking to an ant—Leviathan couldn't hear him.
Roy took a deep breath and shouted at the top of his lungs.
"I said, you're a giant dumbass!"
This time, Leviathan heard him—and wished it hadn't.
"How dare you!"
Furious, Leviathan inhaled deeply, sucking in the green miasma of the Ancient Sea, then exhaled it mixed with its venom, like a typhoon barreling toward Roy.
It was a literal storm of foul stench—Roy could smell the nauseating reek from miles away.
"Some breath you got there!"
Roy gripped the Fancy Scepter tightly, his Phoenix Force surging. The phoenix flames lit up the sky like a brilliant sun.
"Let's fix that bad breath of yours!"
A massive fiery phoenix appeared, matching Leviathan's colossal size.
Their powers clashed in the sky, turning the Ancient Sea's night as bright as day.
Fire rained down, incinerating any creature it touched. But the two forces were locked in a stalemate, with Leviathan's foul storm slightly gaining the upper hand.
Roy's mastery of the Phoenix Form wasn't perfect yet, so he couldn't unleash the full potential of the Phoenix Force.
"Not enough! I can do better!"
Roy pushed his body's potential to the limit but felt his Phoenix Force was missing something.
What was it?
Then the Fancy Scepter spoke up.
"Lord Black, I can sense your power combines life and spirit, but you're only using the life aspect. You haven't tapped into the spirit side!"
Roy had an epiphany. The scepter was proving its worth.
"Mr. Scepter, how do I max out my spiritual power?"
"Emotion, Lord Black! You need an extreme emotion!"
Emotion, huh?
Roy recalled his early days in this world, when he gained his first ability, Demon Possession, driven by fear. This world seemed to run on emotions as a power source, including the Seven Demon Kings' Sin Authorities, each tied to a different emotion.
What emotion did he need to face Leviathan?
Roy closed his eyes, remembering the Halloween event, facing primal fear in a dreamworld, and the faith power given by ordinary people around him.
Suddenly, white specks of light began to emerge from Roy's body.
At first, they were sparse, but as Roy sank deeper into the memory, they multiplied.
Then the phoenix flames contracted. Leviathan, thinking Roy was faltering, gleefully ramped up its attack.
But Roy wasn't weakening—he was condensing his flames for a bigger explosion, like clenching an open hand into a fist.
The next moment, ten glowing wings sprouted from Roy's back, with two more starting to form.
"This is impossible!"
Leviathan's eyes widened. It was witnessing Roy's growth again—evolving from a ten-winged angel to a twelve-winged one right in front of it.
Talk about not giving the King of Envy any respect!
This leap wasn't as dramatic as Roy's earlier rebirth from Demon Lord to surpassing the Upper Three Demon Kings, but combining twelve-winged angel power with the Phoenix Force was a game-changer.
Roy had fused the Phoenix Force with angelic holy light, turning his dual life-and-spirit attributes into a triple threat: life, spirit, and holy light.
"Leviathan, look into my eyes!"
Roy's roar echoed across the Ancient Sea. The next second, he transformed into a true sun, like the Golden Crow from East Asian mythology.
Before, Roy's phoenix flames were hot but couldn't fully counter Leviathan. Now, infused with holy light, they burned hotter and had a natural advantage over the demon.
"No—!"
Leviathan let out a piercing scream, heard by every creature in the Ancient Sea. But they had no time to worry about their ancestor—Roy's attack was an AOE.
The continent below the battlefield reacted first. Plants so close to a "sun" ignited in one second, blazed in two, and turned to ash in three.
The hell monks, pure dark creatures and evil spirits, fared worse—they were incinerated instantly by the positive energy of Roy's solar phoenix fire, their souls burned to nothing with no chance of revival.
The surrounding ocean evaporated rapidly, filling the sky with steam, warping the view so no one could see what was happening.
Only Eluresha, protected by her phoenix flame shield, was unharmed.
Time blurred—maybe a minute, maybe a day. When Roy finally unleashed all his power, the sun set.
The Ancient Sea had become the Ancient Desert. The endless green ocean was gone, replaced by vast, cracked seabeds.
The continent housing Leviathan's palace was now a giant sheet of glass, the result of silica reacting to extreme heat.
The land and sea were in ruins, and the creatures? Not even ashes remained.
"Where's Leviathan?"
Roy looked up, but the mountain-like figure was gone.
"Lord Black, I saw that guy shrink and slip through a spatial portal to escape!" the Fancy Scepter said gleefully. Leviathan had threatened it before, so it was happy to see it humiliated.
Leviathan was decisive, abandoning its home to flee.
"Hmph, ran pretty fast."
As he spoke, a torrential rain began to fall—vapor from the evaporated ocean condensing as the temperature dropped. The sheer volume of water from that green sea poured down like a waterfall.
"Better find Eluresha first."
The entire continent was glassed, and the pyramid hadn't survived either.
Luckily, Eluresha was fine, even rolling over in her sleep, snoozing soundly.
The little succubus loved her naps. She'd been woken up by Roy in the middle of the night and, true to form, fell back asleep right where she was.
Talk about enviable sleep quality!
"Wake up! The sun's shining on your butt!"
