No one in the Lands Between dared to underestimate Frieren's destructive power.
Since she had arrived, the defenders of Leyndell had to consider how to intercept a bombardment of magic that was frantic and indiscriminate; just thinking about it was a headache. Watching the Ancient Dragon formation approaching from the skyline, everyone looked solemn. Even Godfrey and Sir Gideon Ofnir in the inner city had flickering gazes, revealing a gravity that suggested the upcoming battle would be intense.
"Roar—"
The roars of the Ancient Dragons became clearer and clearer; they had entered firing range. The ballistae on the high towers immediately counterattacked, yet the giant arrows merely struck sparks against the rocky scales before snapping, leaving the targets unharmed. General attacks were meaningless against them.
It did not even require the Ancient Dragons to act; the accompanying Flying Dragons destroyed the high towers with precise point-blank shots one by one. Clearly, their technique was far superior to what the Soul Cinder Army had trained for; whether in flight, evasion, or accuracy, they were handled with ease and full of oppressive pressure.
With the high-point firepower of Leyndell's ramparts neutralized, the threat plummeted. Seizing this opportunity, Messmer continued to push forward. It was not just the army; he himself understood the moment, moving the commander's flag closer to the front line. The elite Black Knights turned out in full force.
On the other side, the Carian Magic Knights led by Rellana also pressed up, following in her footsteps. The Mimic Tear and the sorcerer regiment of the Eternal City were no exception; three core elite forces moved out in unison, clearly intending to charge into the city in one breath to be satisfied. They fully trusted Frieren's actions, so what mattered at this moment was not fire cover, but seizing the timing to wait for their teammates to create a breach.
So far, the Ancient Dragons had yet to make their move, remaining quiet. The squad led by Florisaxx flapped their wings, flying openly to observe every part of the city wall. During this time, there was no lack of magic and arrows attempting to counterattack, but they were blocked by the indestructible scaled armor. The Ancient Dragons looked down from above like intelligent beasts examining the weak points of a tortoise shell, their vertical pupils filled with killing intent.
Whoosh!
A golden short sword was thrown, aiming for Florisaxx's eye. However, Frieren grabbed it and crushed it with a crack. It was Morgott making his move. He gritted his teeth; he had intended to test the waters, but he hadn't expected the gap between them to have widened so much. The moment he raised his hand, she had already anticipated it.
This unprecedented journey, from the Haligtree to Farum Azula, defeating countless strong foes, victorious in every battle, conquering every obstacle. It had ultimately tempered the Soul Cinder King into a level worthy of the name Elden Lord; even Morgott felt suffocated. The silver-haired girl's gaze was like a spear piercing the heart; this was already a feeling from two different realms.
"Frieren, this Ashen Capital is your doing," Morgott said.
"The Golden Order has reached its end. I will not waste time within the framework of your order, so let us end this here."
"Florisaxx, is this the will of your High Priest, or the will of the Ancient Dragon race?"
"His Majesty has already defeated our King, Placidusax, and forged a new covenant with Farum Azula. In short, your Golden Dynasty is the sacrifice. Go in peace."
Silence fell the moment the declaration was made. The clamorous battlefield fell still; everyone was dumbstruck. So the King of the Ancient Dragons hadn't died, but was found and defeated by Frieren? Just how many major events had been accomplished on this trip?
It was absolutely true. Otherwise, the submission of the Ancient Dragons could not be explained. A monarch does not joke; this was the curtain call of a battle between kings, signifying that the oldest Elden Lord had thoroughly handed over power. Farum Azula now submitted to the will of the Soul Cinder King, allowing itself to be driven.
The harvest Frieren brought back from her expedition was shocking to the world. After digesting the news of victory, the Soul Cinder Army cheered in unison, the sounds of celebration endless. In contrast, the Leyndell side was much more depressed, the atmosphere deadly serious.
However, the Ancient Dragons did not care about their thoughts. In the next moment, eight Ancient Dragons found a spot on the city wall and opened their great maws.
"Stop them, quickly!" Serosh shouted.
It was too late. Immediately after, all the Ancient Dragons breathed Dragonfire onto a single location with a boom. In an instant, the upper part of the wall evaporated, and a gap was forcibly cut straight down to the lower section.
Boom!
A thin line of sky appeared at the already weak junction of the walls, followed by a chain collapse. Debris and rubble rolled down with a crash. Countless Leyndell Knights fell and were buried along with it, unable to support this breach any longer. The high walls of Leyndell were broken through from the front; this was the second time in history, and once again, it was accomplished by Ancient Dragons.
However, Morgott reacted in time to give the order: "Quick, the breach is just a crack, block it!"
Suddenly, he saw Frieren stand with her legs straight, her arms assuming a posture as if prying open double doors.
Gravity Magic!
Purple-white mana spread along the break, attaching to it and then forcibly prying it open to both sides. She actually managed to expand the breach in the massive and towering city wall; using just a single point to leverage destruction, she tore open a gap exceeding ten meters. What terrifying strength! Just this single display shocked all sides. Is this how Gravity Magic is used? It was even more oppressive than Starscourge Radahn.
After doing all this, the Ancient Dragon squad immediately changed position. Even though the defenders tried their best to pursue, they could not match the speed of the overlords of the sky; they were left in the dust. The old trick was repeated. Another breach was created, and now more of the Soul Cinder Army arrived at the base of the wall.
Under the cover of the three elite units, the threats on the wall were kept at bay, finally allowing the main force to reach the breach. A mighty tide of people blocked the entrance, but they did not make a further move.
Messmer looked up at the sky and said, "Her Majesty cannot tend to the ground for the moment, but the instant of breaking through the breach is the most dangerous."
One could figure out with their toes that countless Leyndell Knights were blocking the other side. So he made a hand gesture; numerous Black Knights raised their shields and lifted their spears, advancing steadily. At the same time, the sorcerer regiment bombarded the interior frantically. Sure enough, Golden Incantations lit up in return. Both sides blasted each other across the breach, shockwaves from explosions occurring frequently and stretching endlessly.
Night Maiden's Mist!
This time it was used by the Mimic Tear, so it was even denser. Seeing this, the Leyndell Knights fought and blocked even more strenuously, only to discover that standing impressively before them were legions of Spirit Ashes.
"Not good, we targeted the wrong ones, they've come in—"
Before the voice fell, the spears of the Black Knights broke through the defensive formation at the breach, killing their way into the Royal Capital in one breath. A Tree Sentinel tried to crush the enemy, but was lifted by a long spear; a red serpent wound around it spat a stream of intense flame, burning him to death.
The tall Messmer was the first general to pass through the breach. His pair of intact eyes looked around as he lamented, "I am back, Leyndell."
Just as he was observing, a figure in a coarse cloth cloak landed before him with a boom. Morgott held his Cursed Sword horizontally, greeting him with a sharp gaze: "Since we are both children of blasphemy, let me see your skill."
"You will witness it immediately—the power tempered by the cruelty of the ancient era of the Land of Shadow."
Boom!
A loud noise made the two turn their heads involuntarily. A third breach, and also the largest one, appeared; the ramparts of the Royal Capital were declared thoroughly broken.
Frieren stretched her waist. She patted Florisaxx beneath her and asked, "Do you still have strength? Can you use a full-power breath to tear open a breach one more time?"
"Your Majesty, I still have spare energy, but these fellows who lack exercise are panting."
The Ancient Dragon Priestess glanced at her seven companions, who immediately revealed embarrassed expressions. After all, they were not as strong as the Priestess; three consecutive overloaded breath attacks had already exhausted them, and it would be difficult to launch an offensive within a short time. Without coordinated attacks, it was hard to tear apart the city wall in one breath.
Ranni said, "Relying on three breaches is still a bit stretched; it's not enough to transport an army of two hundred thousand. At least one face of the city wall needs to be completely dismantled."
"But that would destroy the overall structure of Leyndell's walls; it will be inconvenient to repair later." Melina and she were both entangled in the decision.
After pondering for a moment, Frieren recalled, "Next to my hometown, there is a place called the Northern Fortress. Due to commercial prosperity and stability, it hasn't needed city walls for a long time. I once breached the defenses of the Kingdom of Lothric; it was also famous for its high walls..."
"Facts have proved that walls are often unable to defend anything. It is better to push them over and start again, replanning on the ruins."
"Your Majesty, it is your decision," the three said in unison.
Before their voices fell, the silver-haired girl took a deep breath, the power of Dragon Communion rising all over her body. No. It was not the Dragon Communion of ordinary Flying Dragons, but utilizing it to sublimate into the power of Ancient Dragons. That's right, the Senessax she had absorbed became excellent material. Thus, a brand-new Incantation sprouted, gradually forming a massive shadow.
The Ancient Dragons present all had expressions of horror. They saw the projection of two heads within the golden light and shadow, extending from Frieren's left and right shoulders. How did she do it? It's impossible; she had clearly only seen it once.
It was indeed a bit different, because Frieren had added the Magic of Ruinous Lightning, combining it with the Dragonlord's Incantation which possessed Holy damage.
The entire battlefield looked up at the sky. The legendary projection of the Dragonlord's form was realized by the Soul Cinder King, appropriately proving who had won that battle of kings. It was well known that she liked to use magic modified from her defeated opponents as her own—
They couldn't believe it, but they could only watch helplessly as the twin-headed Dragonlord looked down at the city wall and opened its great maw: Placidusax's Ruin.
Golden streams of light penetrated the rampart, slicing through the masonry as if cutting a cake. The high wall that had stood for thousands of years immediately collapsed; the entire section cut between the two golden beams crumbled, pouring a torrent inward and burying an unknown number of Leyndell soldiers. The streaming light of the Dragonlord's Incantation continued with undiminished momentum, carving a gully in the street before finally restraining itself with satisfaction.
Boom!
The instant Frieren released it, explosions erupted wherever it passed, shaking the earth and mountains. A massive breach appeared in the high walls of Leyndell amidst the smoke and dust, one that even Gransax had failed to achieve. It was stronger than the combined efforts of the Ancient Dragons just now, taking a qualitative step from linear damage to area destruction.
Rellana, who had taken over command from Messmer, immediately ordered: "Charge! Everyone, join me for the general offensive—"
The Soul Cinder Army drove straight in amidst the sounds of shouting and killing.
Frieren looked down. It seemed there was no need to dismantle the wall further. Although she still had spare energy, it was better to save it for the upcoming hard battle; there were plenty of places for her to exert effort. She no longer maintained the special Dragonlord Incantation, allowing it to fade.
"The task of besieging the city is over. Florisaxx, have the Ancient Dragons maintain aerial suppression. Without my order, there is no need for major movements for the time being."
"As you command, Your Majesty."
The two understood tacitly; ultimately, there was no need to leave too much battle credit to the Ancient Dragons. Just as the Haligtree army, which had only recently defected, was assisting in the battle, their job was to ensure losses were reduced on the frontal battlefield. The Soul Cinder Army needed to be baptized and tempered in this war, retaining more of its backbone to become the new strongest army. There was no need to hand over the opportunity for experience to others. Even ordering the Haligtree army and Ancient Dragons to maintain suppression was the limit; they couldn't truly be allowed to take the frontal pressure. Blood and fire belonged to the Soul Cinder Army; they also needed to be crowned in this war.
After giving orders to her companion, Florisaxx continued to fly and circle with her squad.
Rumble!
Suddenly, the gully carved by Placidusax's Ruin ahead collapsed, and a large hand climbed up. The owner of the hand was impressively Yhorm the Giant, a future Lord of Cinder. He immediately stared at Frieren in the sky and let out a roar, the violent sound waves shattering the rubble.
"Leave it to you, Captain."
Following her shout, the Undead Legion of Farron leaped over the wall breach and stood in front of Yhorm the Giant. Two Lords of Cinder confronted each other.
Ranni said, "The destructive power of their battle should be great; we can't go this way, it's easy to get swept up in it. what do you plan to do next? Make a beeline for the Royal Capital palace?"
"It's not that easy. This is different from when I came with Frieren."
Following the direction Melina pointed, layer upon layer of barriers could be seen around the palace, and a squad of Crucible Knights walked out. They had been waiting for a long time. previously standing by Godfrey's side, today the Crucible Knight Order marched out at full strength. When the dark gold armor formed a human wall, it had the momentum of toppling mountains and overturning seas.
"Those magics are maintained by Ofnir."
"I heard he has deep disagreements with you. My Sovereign, shall we kill the last Elder of the Roundtable?"
"I'll leave it to you when the time comes, Ranni."
"That fanatic who believes in the Two Fingers is suitable for me to resolve."
Just as the two were conversing, the Crucible Knight Order charged into the battlefield in a mighty manner. Although it was just a squad, they crushed the vanguard offensive of the Soul Cinder Army like the wind scattering clouds, letting the aftershocks roll all the way to the breach. Both Morgott and Messmer, who were in the heat of battle, could not help but look sideways; to be honest, it was also their first time witnessing the power of a fully assembled Crucible Knight Order.
One army was enough to change the tide of battle. This group of blessed ones with ancient power was unstoppable, and the one responsible for commanding them was equally thorny—impressively, it was the Beast Regent Serosh.
"Having followed the First Lord in his campaigns, he is the most suitable commander besides Godfrey." Melina suggested, "To clear them out, it is best to use Destined Death for a quick resolution..."
Whoosh!
Amidst the sound of breaking air, Florisaxx flapped her wings to dodge; a spear of ancient Crucible power brushed past her shoulder.
"What a troublesome bunch." She clicked her tongue. "During the Ancient Dragon War back then, Farum Azula fought with them. I heard Lansseax say they are an army one has to guard against."
Frieren suddenly threw out the Spirit Calling Bell with a whoosh. The Mimic Tear on the ground grabbed it and rang it to summon simultaneously. The two completed their exchange with a mutual understanding.
"I don't need it for the time being anyway, so I'll leave it to you. Inside are the Spirit Ashes I collected on this trip; they've also been reinforced. Make good use of them."
A white legion gradually gathered around the Mimic Tear. Serosh immediately rushed forward, but his sharp claws were intercepted by Rellana. He could only watch helplessly as a grand summoning took place, the crisp sound of the bell echoing in all directions.
The Spirit Ash Legion is at full strength!
