"The quarry!" the harbor commander shouted. "He's coming down in the quarry!"
Camila could see the empty excavation beyond the outer defenses. She could see the earth banks separating it from the harbor, and she desperately hoped they were tall enough.
Pebble's forepaws struck the bottom.
*BOOOOOM!*
The ground punched up through her feet. Her aide caught her elbow as she stumbled, and beyond the wall an eruption of dirt climbed higher than the watchtowers.
"Curses!"
Someone dropped their camera. A truck rocked on its suspension while loose gravel danced across the quay, the impact rolling beneath them and out through the harbor in a shudder that made the moored ships heave against their lines.
Dust rushed over the earth bank toward the reception.
Nyx raised a hand. The air curved ahead of them, catching the dirty gust and sending it streaming past either side while Camila stared through the clearing space at the quarry.
