Kaiden didn't answer. He just held her. His arms were firm and grounding as he rested his chin on top of her head.
Alexandra's breathing hitched. Then again.
Her hands slowly came up to clutch at his back, and she buried her face in his chest as the sobs finally broke free. Truly broke free, this time.
They were ugly and raw and full of years of pain she'd kept locked away.
Nyx looked at the scene with her own eyes glistening. Many girls were the same. Even the gamer girl with a foul mouth found herself overwhelmed by raw emotion. Hell, even Bastet, the graceful, elegant tanned kitten of the desert, cleared a rogue tear from her eyes and looked away as if annoyed at herself for the display.
Kaiden's hug tightened around Alexandra, and she began staining his shirt with her tears, but he didn't pull away.
