"What's wrong?" Evarisse asked in a teasing tone. "Where did your confidence from earlier go?"
"If I fulfill your request, will you really give us your blessing?" Alex asked back.
"Of course," Evarisse replied. "If you can complete my trial, I will give you and my daughter my blessing."
Alex was wondering why Latifa and her Alters hadn't said anything since Evarisse had declared the specifics of his trial.
But when he turned around, he realized that all of them had been frozen in a block of ice, unable to do or say anything!
Evarisse knew her daughter would stop Alex from taking the trial she had asked of him.
To prevent that, she made sure to seal her and her Alters first in blocks of ice before telling Alex how to prove himself worthy of her.
The test wasn't meant to test Alex's courage or show any of his good points. If anything, it was just a test meant to humiliate him.
