Chapter 478 - Chapter 478: The Ruin Guardian

Crack—crack—crack—!

The sound of space fracturing echoed continuously as the rift in midair expanded at an alarming rate. A colossal hand, made entirely of stone and bronze in hue, forced its way outward through the splitting space. The back of the hand was carved with intricate, spiral-like runes that shimmered faintly with golden light.

As that hand slowly pushed through, a tremendous surge of energy rippled from the other side of the rift, shaking the entire chamber.

"ROOAAAR!"

Noticing this, Garchomp immediately darted forward, standing protectively in front of Kirlia. It threw a quick reassuring glance back at her before turning its fierce gaze toward the rift in the sky.

"That… could it be a Golurk?"

Aven's brows knitted together as he studied the massive, bronze-colored hand. The details—the earthy tone of its body, the golem-like structure, and those glowing spiral runes all pointed toward one unmistakable answer: the Pokémon known as Golurk, a Ground and Ghost type Pokémon.

Crack—crack—!

The sound of rending space continued, and the massive body slowly squeezed its way through the air, bit by bit.

Finally, as the entire figure emerged from the rift, Aven's suspicions were confirmed—standing before them was indeed a Golurk!

"Roooaaar!"

"Lass~!"

Both Garchomp and Froslass instantly entered battle stance. The moment Golurk fully forced its body out of the rift, the two Pokémon attacked in perfect coordination.

A blizzard condensed in Froslass's hands, an overwhelming frost radiating from her as the very ground around them froze solid.

Feeling the piercing chill rush past, Garchomp instinctively retreated a few steps, allowing the blizzard to engulf the area completely.

Crackle… crackle…

The sound of freezing echoed sharply as layers of ice spread rapidly over Golurk's massive frame. Within moments, the golem's entire body was encased in glittering frost—only the spiral runes carved into its body still pulsed faintly with a golden gleam.

"Roar…"

Even Garchomp couldn't help wiping away imaginary sweat—it could feel that if it had been caught in that storm, it would have paid dearly for it.

"Lass~"

Seeing that Golurk was immobilized, Froslass floated closer, reaching out to begin absorbing the gray mist seeping from within its body.

"Is it over?" Aven narrowed his eyes slightly.

He knew Froslass had deliberately used an Ice-type move rather than a Ghost-type one—she wasn't trying to destroy the opponent, but to restrain it and then extract the corrupting mist.

Crack—crack—crack!

But within seconds, the sharp sound of shattering ice filled the air again. Cracks spidered rapidly across the frozen shell, the glacier trembling as chunks began to fall away.

Froslass's expression shifted. She gathered another surge of frost—but before she could unleash her Ice Beam, Golurk flexed both arms, and with a thunderous boom, the entire block of ice exploded apart.

"Lass—!"

Froslass immediately retreated.

Creak… creak… creak…

Freed from its icy prison, the massive Golurk clenched its fists, the joints grinding loudly. Then, with a deep, guttural roar, it charged a punch with Ground-type energy and swung straight at Froslass!

But just as its heavy, stone fist was about to connect, a flash of green light cut across the air—Garchomp appeared before Froslass, intercepting the attack with its glowing Dragon Claw.

BOOM!

The two collided, a deafening shockwave rippling through the chamber as they locked in a fierce struggle.

This Golurk's strength was astonishing, it wasn't just powerful, it radiated the aura of a King-level Pokémon. And with the corruption of the gray mist coursing through it, its battle power had become even more monstrous.

Creak… creak…

The towering golem stood nearly five meters tall, nearly scraping the ceiling of the stone hall. As its joints moved stiffly, it swung its colossal fists again, hurling waves of Ground-type energy toward Garchomp.

The two powerhouse Pokémon clashed violently, claw and fist striking repeatedly, each collision sending bursts of power cascading outward like shockwaves.

"Lass~!"

Froslass hovered gracefully in midair, her aura once again gathering freezing energy, frost spreading like an ethereal mist around her.

"Froslass, don't use Ice attacks—use Shadow Ball!" Aven commanded sharply.

Garchomp was a Dragon and Ground dual-type—Ice attacks were four times as effective against it!

Hearing this, Froslass quickly ceased channeling the frost, instead raising her hands to conjure a sphere of ghostly darkness. The Shadow Ball shot forward like a comet, slamming directly into Golurk's head.

The impact made the giant's head lurch to the side—but even a super-effective Ghost-type hit couldn't pierce its thick defenses.

Then, the runes on Golurk's head flared brown as it fired a concentrated beam of earthy energy.

"Lass~!"

Froslass quickly countered, firing another Shadow Ball that collided midair with the beam, resulting in an explosion of swirling energy that neutralized both attacks.

"That's… Earth Power, isn't it?"

"Seems this Golurk favors Ground-type attacks over Ghost-type ones."

Aven's gaze deepened as he studied the carvings all across its body.

According to ancient legends, Golurk was a man-made Pokémon—crafted by ancient humans as both a guardian and a laborer. Because of this, they were often discovered within old ruins and temples, their purpose to protect what was left behind.

Since they were artificially constructed, their Ghost attribute was faint—they rarely ever appeared in the Ghost World.

"So… could it be that what's behind that rift is a ruin?" Aven murmured, his brow furrowing.

The chamber of the Abyssal Cavern itself already resembled a ruin—three pillars and several walls were all that remained—but there were no other traces of civilization.

That made it entirely plausible that a deeper ruin was hidden beyond the spatial rift. And this Golurk before him was very likely the guardian of that ruin, accidentally awakened after being corrupted by the gray mist.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

The fierce battle continued to rage on.

Despite their combined might, both Garchomp and Froslass struggled. This particular Golurk was much larger and sturdier than ordinary ones, its body seemingly forged from a superior material, and the gray mist only strengthened it further.

"ROOAR!"

Another direct clash sent Garchomp skidding backward until it slammed against one of the stone pillars.

Golurk advanced, its fists glowing with rune-light as it prepared another crushing blow.

"...The pillar!" Aven's pupils constricted.

Just as he thought Golurk's punch would demolish the ancient column, the runes across its body abruptly flared with brilliant light.

A powerful surge of energy rippled outward, freezing the creature in place. Its raised fist halted just short of striking the pillar.

"What…?" Aven was momentarily stunned.

Then, realization dawned—Golurk truly was the ruin's guardian.

Those same runes weren't merely decorative—they were inscribed commands. It was forbidden from damaging the ruin it was created to protect.

Even in its corrupted state, that deep-rooted directive still held sway. Its attempt to strike the pillar had triggered a backlash; the golden runes along its fists flickered out, leaving its arm limp and immobile.

"ROAR!"

Garchomp wasted no time.

Gathering a fierce surge of draconic energy, it stomped the ground, its body enveloped in spiraling light. Then, with a roar that split the air, it launched itself forward in a Dragon Rush!

The blast of power shaped itself into a colossal dragon phantom that engulfed Garchomp's entire body as it rocketed forward, slamming into the immobilized Golurk with earth-shattering force.

BOOM!

The impact sent Golurk crashing into the stone wall, the entire hall quaking from the shock.

"Lass~!"

From above, Froslass had already prepared her next strike—a massive Shadow Ball hurtled downward like a falling star, smashing into Golurk's right arm in a violent explosion.

When the smoke cleared, the runes on Golurk's right arm had gone completely dark, rendering that limb useless as well.

Creak… creak…

Golurk struggled to rise, its body trembling. Both its arms now hung powerless at its sides, unable to move. Even so, its head turned upward, firing another beam of earthy energy—but Froslass easily countered with yet another Shadow Ball, dispersing it midair.

"Garchomp, Froslass—attack its abdomen!" Aven ordered.

The two Pokémon exchanged a quick glance, then unleashed their strongest strikes in unison—Garchomp's Dragon Claw and Froslass's Shadow Ball collided against the glowing runes across Golurk's stomach.

The golden symbols flickered violently, their light dimming until they finally went dark.

"Lass~"

Froslass floated closer, channeling her own ghostly aura. Streams of gray mist began pouring out from Golurk's body, drawn into her grasp.

When the last wisp of corruption faded away, the massive golem finally stilled, collapsing motionless onto the floor.

"Hah… finally," Aven exhaled in relief.

He approached the fallen guardian, eyes scanning the intricate runes carved into its surface.

Normal Golurk only bore a few spiral energy runes, but this one was covered in a far more complex network of symbols.

"These patterns… why do they look so familiar?" he murmured, frowning.

Then, as he lifted his gaze toward the rift above, realization dawned—his mind flashed back to the stone tower within the Ironblood Fortress.

Back then, when he had activated the altar inside that tower, he had also opened a similar spatial gate leading to another ruin—and the runes that had appeared then… were almost identical to these.

"Could it be… that the ruin behind this rift and that one in Ironblood Fortress were built by the same civilization?"

"It makes sense… both are located close to each other, likely remnants of the same ancient power."

"And both seem connected to the Ghost World—constructed through the same kind of dimensional channels that bridge between realms…"

Aven's eyes gleamed with realization. The secrets buried within these ruins ran far deeper than he had ever imagined.

TN: Heys sorry for the long wait, just not really been reading here for while since life got pretty hectic lately with me losing internet for a week, our house getting rebuilt, then getting drunk from all the Christmas celebrations, then my mother getting hospitalized, then looking after a house with a teenager who can't clean is pretty tiring, so haven't been reading here for a while really.

I'll probably be posting in mass more rather than doing a daily update since I had to do it individually here and with how many I'm editing takes too long of my time. Hopefully things get better in January so I can go back to my groove of reading, editing and updating more of my novels here.

Also, are you guys interested in reading Pokemon fanfictions that are already here but are not well translated and edited? I realized I been dropping supposedly good novels according to some Chinese Forums that I found because they're not well edited. I realized myself that while earning money from this is great I'm more here because of my hobby of reading (more like addiction at this point really) and been doing this since before I know I can earn money from this really, and the money that I earn from my Patreon mostly goes back authors and translators that I follow on patreon.

Anyway I just want to know what you guys thought about this, since some novels are still active but I'll purposely be behind if I do ever get to start translating and posting here. I'll probably be stepping on other peoples toes but I'm just asking for a couple minutes of editing and they don't even do it. I'm only really interested in one Pokémon farming novel really but if you guys found any that seems to have potential but hindered by editing please comment it out.

Well that all my rambling, goodbye and see you guys next week.
