Hearing his voice, inexplicably, her eyes felt sore, and she had an urge to cry.
"I went to the hospital to see my dad." Her voice was somewhat unusual, and Asher Land thought she was down because of her dad's illness, so he didn't plan to say anything further.
"Do you want me to come pick you up?"
"Oh, no need, I'll be back soon."
"Okay, then. It's snowing, so drive safely," he advised her before hanging up.
Sophie Smith put away the phone and just when she was about to start the car, it stalled. She was puzzled, as it happened twice in a row, not knowing what the problem was.
With no other choice, she called him.
"I think you should come and pick me up after all."
