As an older brother, Arlo Seys's trials for him were all for Nicole's good, for the sake of his sister.
Era's investment in a real estate project in City S was actually just a facade created by Arlo Seys to facilitate visiting his sister, and he even gifted one of the apartments to Nicole. From the start of Arlo Seys's plan, everything he thought about and protected was for Nicole. Arlo Seys truly cares for his sister.
Thinking about it this way, calling Arlo Seys "brother" doesn't feel so awkward. After going through so much, Arlo Seys is still willing to let him marry Nicole. Just for that, he is grateful to Arlo Seys, to the Seys Family's old master, and to the entire Seys Family.
But the one he pains for the most is Nicole.
She left the Seys Family for his sake, had a child on her own, and in such circumstances, suffered severe injuries and couldn't use anesthesia, having to endure it all.
