After the incident of unexpectedly encountering a snake, everyone walked with branches in their hands, continuously tapping on the grass beside them to avoid any more snakes hiding and giving them a scare.
The short path to the school, merely over ten miles through the mountains, was a tense and fluctuating journey for the group, while the children who traveled it daily were calm and composed.
After their feet were sore, the group finally reached the school where the children studied. It was said that this school was where children from several nearby villages came to study.
Though they called this place a school, it was merely a row of broken-down houses. The playground was very small, with a tiny raising and lowering flagpole, under which all the children would gather for a flag-raising ceremony before class, and to take attendance.
