So Jian Shuangshuang heard that a family in the neighboring village was going to slaughter a pig, and she went straight over to buy 200 copper coins' worth of pork, a total of twenty pounds. The pork seller also gave Jian Shuangshuang lots of large bones, which are perfect for making soup.
Jian Shuangshuang brought the pork back and divided ten pounds of it into small portions, giving them to other families in the village who had taken care of her, thanking them for their care that helped to keep her from starving.
The fact that Jian Shuangshuang made money couldn't be hidden. The clothes she wore clearly weren't cheap. The people in the village knew Jian Shuangshuang earned money by telling stories and were genuinely happy for her aside from pestering her to hear more stories.
