She didn't feel embarrassed about it, met his gaze calmly, and nodded: "Hmm."

Hayes smiled, hesitated for a few seconds, opened his mouth as if to speak but stopped, and after a moment, finally said some things from his heart: "Scarlett, I know saying this might be a bit abrupt and somewhat impolite, but since it concerns Knox, I have to brace myself and ask a few questions."
As he spoke, he was gauging Scarlett Yates's expression. Seeing no sign of displeasure, he felt relieved, pondered for a moment, and organized his thoughts before continuing: "I want to know what your view of Knox is, what kind of person do you think he is?"
