Chapter 575 - Chapter 575: Elite Four Psychic Battle (1)

Chapter 575: Elite Four Psychic Battle (1)

~Third POV~

[Sinnoh Region, Pokémon League – Lucian's Room]

The grand, echoing halls of the Sinnoh Pokémon League shimmered with an almost ethereal light, a testament to the might and mystery contained within its walls. Azure, his heart thrumming with a rhythm of anticipation and practiced calm, strode through the grand gates that had just opened, leaving behind the battle room of Elite Four Flint.

Three down, one to go before the Champion.

The hallway he entered was a study in contrasts – lengths of cool blue and pristine white, bisected visually by a sleek, metallic lift that gleamed under the soft glow of interspersed yellow and red lights. It felt less like a battle arena and more like the elegant antechamber of a scholar, fitting for the Psychic-type specialist he was about to face. The air, crisp and slightly cool, carried a faint, almost imperceptible scent of old books and charged psychic energy.

Reaching the short lift, Azure stepped onto its platform, feeling the gentle hum of unseen mechanisms as it smoothly ascended. The subtle shift in elevation brought him to another gate, identical to the one he'd just passed, but leading to a distinctly different realm. He pushed through, the heavy doors parting with a hushed whoosh, revealing Lucian's sanctuary.

The interior of Lucian's room was awash in deep purples and blues, the hues blending seamlessly like an artist's palette. Four glowing orbs of soft, diffused light hovered in each corner, casting an almost meditative aura over the enclosed space. The room was expansive, designed for focus and mental clarity, a perfect stage for a master of Psychic Pokémon.

At the far end, standing with an air of refined composure, was Lucian. His expression was one of polite enthusiasm, a subtle smile playing on his lips as his eyes met Azure's. He began, his voice a calm, modulated baritone, "Azure Sky, it is truly a pleasure. I have been keenly observing your battles. You have demonstrated remarkable skill against Aaron, Bertha, and Flint. And on behalf of Sinnoh itself… thank you for your contributions to its peace."

Azure offered a curt, respectful nod, a slight deferential dip of his head. He replied casually, easygoing, his voice firm but not boastful, "It was nothing, Lucian. Just doing what was necessary."

Lucian's smile widened slightly, a flicker of appreciation in his perceptive eyes. He nodded in return, understanding the unspoken sentiment. The pleasantries, though brief, were now concluded.

The atmosphere in the room subtly shifted, the polite veneer falling away to reveal the competitive spirit beneath. Lucian's expression adopted an indifferent, almost stoic mask, but Azure felt the change in pressure immediately – a subtle, mental force, even more potent than Flint's fiery aura.

Lucian stated, his voice now carrying a crisp, professional edge, "Very well, then. As per League regulations, this will be a six-on-six Pokémon battle. I assure you…"

He added, his eyes meeting Azure's with an unwavering intensity, "I shall do my utmost to ensure your remarkable run concludes here, with me."

Azure's jaw tightened almost imperceptibly. He met Lucian's gaze with his own, a silent challenge passing between them. He understood.

This wasn't merely about winning a match; it was about the culmination of a journey, the test of everything he and his Pokémon had built together. With a decisive flex of his shoulders, Azure settled into his battle stance, his hand hovering over his Arc Phone.

Lucian declared, his arm sweeping forward in a fluid motion, "Let's begin!"

From the cool depths of a Luxury Ball, a magnificent Pokémon materialized in a shimmer of starlight and energy. Lucian declared, "Wyrdeer, to the field!"

*POP*

The majestic Wyrdeer, its antlers glowing with soft, psychic energy, stomped its hooves once, a proud and powerful stance. Attached to its collar, a small, leafy green sprig – a [Mental Herb] – was clearly visible.

Azure called, his voice clear and resonant, "Alright, Rotom!"

*ZAP*

The Arc Phone in his hand vibrated, then opened, and with a distinctive zzzt-whirr, Rotom zipped out, crackling with electric energy. It was currently in its default Electric/Ghost form, a mischievous spark in its digital eyes. Around its spectral form, a faint, almost translucent glow indicated the presence of its held [Wise Glasses].

Neither trainer uttered another word. The unspoken agreement was clear: pleasantries were over, and only the roar of battle remained. Both trainers locked eyes, then simultaneously flickered their gazes to their respective Pokémon, the unspoken commands passing between trainer and partner in a flash of understanding.

Azure commanded, his voice sharp, "Rotom, Agility!"

Lucian countered, his tone calm and measured, "Wyrdeer, Future Sight!"

Rotom, already buzzing with latent energy, became a blur. With a high-pitched buzz, Rotom zipped and zapped around the arena, leaving faint electric trails in its wake, its speed visibly escalating.

*Ripple*

Simultaneously, Wyrdeer's antlers glowed intensely, a ripple of psychic energy forming above its head before dissipating into thin air, an attack now scheduled for the future. Azure pressed, capitalising on Rotom's gained speed, "Strong Style Dark Pulse!"

*PEW*

Rotom zipped, then focused its energy, twin streams of shadowy, dark energy coalescing at its spectral hands, then erupting forward as a concentrated blast of pure darkness. The air crackled with malevolent power as it surged towards Wyrdeer.

Lucian remained unperturbed. He countered, "Wyrdeer, Agility, evade!"

*Whooosh*

Wyrdeer, already a picture of grace, responded with astonishing swiftness. Its powerful legs blurred, and with an elegant, almost nonchalant leap, it sidestepped the incoming Dark Pulse by mere inches.

The attack slammed into the purple-blue wall behind it, leaving a dark, smoking scorch mark. Wyrdeer's form shimmered again, its speed now boosted by two stages, its movements almost too fast for the eye to follow.

Lucian ordered, pressing his advantage, "Wyrdeer! Shadow Ball!"

*CRACKLE*

Wyrdeer reared back, a swirling orb of dark, spectral energy forming between its antlers, radiating an icy coldness. Azure barked, preempting the attack, "Rotom, give'em a Sucker Punch!"

*SMACK*

Rotom, faster than Wyrdeer's full charge, zipped forward, its spectral body twisting mid-air, and slammed a ghostly fist directly into Wyrdeer's flank. A guttural oof escaped the Psychic/Normal-type, its Shadow Ball dissipating as the super-effective damage rippled through its form.

The blow was solid, but Wyrdeer, a tough Pokémon, merely stumbled, its resolve unwavering. Lucian's eyes narrowed slightly, a hint of surprise in them. He immediately countered, turning defense into offense, "Psyshield Bash!"

*Tmp-Tmp-Tmp*

Wyrdeer, recovering from the Sucker Punch with impressive speed, enveloped itself in a faint, protective psychic aura, then charged, attempting to ram Rotom head-on, its skull glowing with concentrated power.

Azure commanded boldly, his voice ringing with confidence, "Rotom! Ominous Wind Counter Shield!"

*Whirrrrl*

Rotom, seeing the incoming attack, suddenly spun on its axis, gathering a whirlwind of ghostly, green energy around itself. The transparent, swirling vortex pulsed with spectral power, forming a defensive shield.

*Whoosh*

Wyrdeer's Psyshield Bash collided with the Ominous Wind Counter Shield. The ghostly tornado roiled and churned, completely blocking the physical attack. The Normal-type Wyrdeer, however, took no damage from the Ghost-type wind; instead, it was merely pushed back a few feet, its charge halted.

As it regained its footing, a faint, shimmering aura pulsed around its body, indicating a +1 Defense boost—a subtle, almost unintended side effect of the contact. Rotom, however, was not content with just blocking. Its spectral body glowed brighter within the maintained Ominous Wind.

*Zzzt*

A surge of energy coursed through it. A visible increase in Rotom's power was evident: its Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed all visibly increased by +1 stage each. The Ominous Wind Counter Shield was a unique technique Azure had developed, allowing Rotom to gain stat boosts as long as Rotom actively maintained the defensive vortex.

Azure encouraged, a mental grin on his face, "Rotom, keep it up!"

This was a massive advantage. But the battle was far from over.

*CRACK*

Suddenly, Lucian's eyes widened, a dawning realization in them. Just as Azure was confident in Rotom's newly boosted power, the air above Rotom shimmered with a profound psychic pressure. The Future Sight attack, previously set in motion, detonated directly onto Rotom's head.

The ghostly tornado flickered, then violently dispersed. Rotom cried out, a high-pitched bzzzt-ZZZAP, its spectral form momentarily destabilized by the delayed, powerful Psychic attack. Lucian seized the opening, his voice like a whip, "Now, Zen-Headbutt!"

*Vwooom*

Wyrdeer, its head glowing with brilliant psychic energy, charged forward, aiming to strike Rotom with a full-force ram!

Azure yelled, reacting instantly, "Protect!"

*THUD*

Despite the surprise hit, Rotom was quick. A shimmering, emerald barrier, almost invisible save for the faint ripple it sent through the air, materialized before its battered form. It shimmered with defiant energy, absorbing the raw force of Wyrdeer's charging Zen-Headbutt with a muffled thud.

The barrier held, but it only lasted for a moment. As it faded, Rotom, still hurting, zipped away from Wyrdeer, a faint, reddish aura forming around its spectral hands.

Azure barked, "Pain Split!"

*ZAP*

Wyrdeer grunted in discomfort as it felt its own vitality drain from it, channeling into Rotom. Rotom's spectral form glowed with renewed vigor, its earlier damage visibly mending itself, health returning to full as if the Future Sight had never landed.

*Zooom*

It zipped back to its original position, looking ready for more. Lucian's eyes now held a glint of genuine intrigue.

He then issued another command, his voice resonating with psychic intent, "Impressive. You anticipate well. Wyrdeer, Gravity!"

*THWUMP*

A heavy, invisible field of energy pressed down across the battlefield. The vibrant colors of Lucian's room seemed to deepen, and the air thickened, making the air feel sluggish. Yet, Rotom remained unfazed, still zipping around with its characteristic agility.

Azure allowed himself a small, private mental grin and thought, 'Nice try, Lucian.'

He had prepared for this. During his intense training, he had put all his Pokémon through rigorous 'Gravity Training,' making them immune to the debilitating effects of the move. He commanded, letting his Pokémon's continued mobility speak for itself, "Rotom, Strong Style Dark Pulse!"

*PEW*

Lucian's indifferent expression faltered. His eyes widened slightly, a genuine flicker of surprise crossing his features as he watched Rotom zip unaffected through the Gravity field, gathering dark energy for its attack.

He reacted in the nick of time, ordering, "Light Screen!"

*BASH*

A shimmering yellow barrier, translucent and humming with defensive energy, instantly enveloped Wyrdeer. Rotom's Strong Style Dark Pulse, now enhanced by Rotom's current +1 Special Attack, slammed into the barrier with a BASH.

The Light Screen visibly shimmered and flickered, absorbing a significant portion of the force. Even so, enough raw power got through to make Wyrdeer flinch, its elegant form stuttering under the impact.

Azure pressed, seizing the momentum. Rotom buzzed, crackling with pure electric energy, "End it with a Thunderbolt!"

*ZAP*

A brilliant, jagged bolt of lightning shot forth, aimed directly at Wyrdeer. Lucian, however, had another trick up his sleeve.

He called out, his voice imbued with a sense of urgency, "Trick Room!"

*FLASH*

Before the Thunderbolt could fully connect, the entire room seemed to warp. A gigantic, shimmering purple cube materialized, encompassing the entire battlefield. The air inside the cube twisted, distorting perception. Everything within it seemed to slow down, including Rotom's visually accelerated movements, as if time itself had been turned on its head.

*KRA-BOOM*

The Thunderbolt, though appearing to move in slow motion, still struck Wyrdeer head-on. The combined force of the super-effective Electric attack and the previous Dark Pulse was too much. Wyrdeer cried out, a pained reeee, its legs buckling. Its majestic form collapsed to the ground, unconscious.

*THUD*

Wyrdeer fainted.

Lucian sighed, a soft sound that barely disturbed the purple-hued stillness of the Trick Room. He recalled Wyrdeer to its Luxury Ball, a small, sad smile on his face, whispering, "Thank you, Wyrdeer. You fought with dignity."

His gaze sharpened as he reached for another Poké Ball. He declared, "Now, then… Slowbro, it is your turn!"

*POP*

From a Net Ball, a sturdy, pink-hued Slowbro materialized, its large shell on its tail bobbing slightly. It exuded an air of calm, almost lazy power. Azure could spot the faint glimmer of its held item, a [Leftovers], around its wrist. Slowbro stood, its eyes half-lidded, perfectly at home within the reversed physics of the Trick Room.

Azure commanded, intending to re-establish Rotom's stat boosts, "Rotom, Ominous Wind Counter Shield!"

But Lucian's command was already leaving his lips, almost an instinctual reflex. He said, "Liquidation!"

The word was barely fully formed when Slowbro, within the Trick Room's strange distortions, moved with astonishing speed. One moment it was standing across the field, the next it seemed to glitch forward, appearing directly in front of Rotom, a furious wave of water coalescing around its hand. It slammed the Water-type attack directly into Rotom's form.

*SPLASH*

The attack hit with brutal force. However, Rotom, with its innate quickness, had already begun its counter. Even as the Liquidation landed, Rotom extended its spectral arm forward as Azure barked, "Sucker Punch!"

*BASH*

The ghostly fist struck Slowbro, landing a solid, super-effective hit before the Water-type Pokémon could fully register its own attack. Slowbro grunted, stumbling back a step from the attack.

But Rotom was not done. As the Liquidation splashed against it, Azure had already anticipated the type of disadvantage.

Azure ordered, "Form Change! Wash Rotom!"

*ZZZZZT-WHIRRR-CLANK*

With an audible mechanical whir and the sound of water gushing, Rotom's spectral form condensed and reshaped itself. It transformed, integrating itself into a washing machine, now gleaming with a vibrant blue hue. Its typing shifted instantly from Electric/Ghost to Electric/Water, drastically reducing the damage from Liquidation. Its signature Levitate ability, however, remained.

Lucian's serene composure finally broke. His eyes widened, genuine shock replacing his earlier intrigue exclaimed in sheer disbelief, "A Form Change during battle... and a secondary ability? Incredible! I wasn't aware Rotom possessed more than its standard Levitate ability!"

Wash Rotom, still crackling with energy, gave a triumphant taunt. Rotom's metallic voice boasted loudly, a clear, cheeky digital voice echoing through the room, "This Rotom isn't just any ordinary Rotom, Lucian! I'm one-of-a-kind! Two abilities, multiple types, and endless styles!"

Azure stifled a chuckle, a small smirk touching his lips. He'd known Rotom would enjoy a moment of showboating.

Lucian's eyes narrowed, regaining his focus as he thought, amused, 'This Azure was full of surprises. But I can't back down.'

He commanded, adapting instantly to Rotom's new form and leveraging Trick Room, "Slowbro, back off with your speed! Use Curse to power up!"

*ZOOOM*

Slowbro, moving with surprising swiftness thanks to the Trick Room, glided backwards, its body glowing with a dark aura as it powered itself up.

Azure counter-commanded, "Rotom, Taunt!"

Rotom instantly zipped forward, its washing machine form bobbing playfully, sending out a series of rude, mocking cries aimed directly at Slowbro, "Bzzt! Hey, you know who else is also overpowered and overweight? MY MOM!"

Slowbro, amid its Curse, suddenly flinched, its movements becoming agitated. The Taunt hit home, forcing it into offensive moves.

It growled, a low, guttural sound, abandoning its defensive setup to focus on attack, "Slooo?! (You son of a bitch!? Only my mother is overweight-Hey!)."

*BOOOM*

With a surprising burst of speed, it lunged. Lucian adjusted as he commanded calmly, "Slowbro Ice Punch!"

*Crackle*

A chilling, frosty aura enveloped Slowbro's fist as it swung directly at Wash Rotom. Azure countered, his voice ringing with a new, complex command, "Rotom, you know the deal! Delta Shield!"

*SHIII*

Wash Rotom, nimble despite its washing machine form, spun its agitator, generating a double-layered barrier. One layer pulsed with the yellow light of Reflect, while the other shimmered with the pale blue of Light Screen, combining into a robust, almost impenetrable shield.

*WHOOSH*

The Ice Punch slammed into the Delta Shield, the icy impact dispersing harmlessly against the combined psychic protection. Azure mentally ran through the effectiveness of his custom technique. Only Brick Break could shatter that. He crossed his fingers, hoping Lucian's Slowbro didn't know the move.

Lucian frowned, his strategic mind already at work. Slowbro tried again, and again, hammering at the Delta Shield with Ice Punch, but the barrier held firm, deflecting every attempt.

Meanwhile, Wash Rotom wasn't idle. Azure instructed, "Nasty Plot!"

Rotom's spectral circuits glowed, its internal machinery whirring with power. A dark, insidious aura of heightened Special Attack gathered around it, boosting its Special Attack by +2 Stages.

Lucian, a Psychic-type specialist, observed the Delta Shield with intense scrutiny. His eyes, keen and analytical, registered the tell-tale properties of both Reflect and Light Screen. Then, a spark ignited in his mind—a flash of realization.

He glanced at the shimmering purple cube of the Trick Room, then at the glowing Delta Shield. He mused internally, 'It's not infinite; both the Trick Room and the individual screens had limited durations. Meaning even if what I assume is correct from experience… that Delta Shield should have THAT weakness too!'

Just as Wash Rotom completed another Nasty Plot, its Special Attack soaring to a terrifying +5, Lucian's eyes snapped back to Slowbro. He commanded, a newfound urgency in his voice, "Slowbro! Brick Break!"

Slowbro, its frustration evident from its prior ineffective attacks, roared. Its fist glowed with fierce, orange energy, and it swung with all its might, a focused, shattering blow aimed right at the Delta Shield.

*CRACK-SMASH*

The combined barrier, which had seemed so impenetrable, shattered into countless glittering shards of light. The sound echoed through the Trick Room, startling Wash Rotom in disbelief, "Nani?!"

Lucian had been the first to discover and exploit the Delta Shield's sole weakness. Lucian immediately followed up, pressing the advantage, "Drain Punch!"

*Wooosh*

Slowbro's glowing fist, now tinged with a sickly green, lunged forward, aimed at Rotom's body!

Azure countered, barely a millisecond to spare, "Flash!"

*FLASH*

Wash Rotom emitted a blinding burst of white light. Slowbro, caught momentarily off guard, faltered, its Drain Punch missing its mark by a hair's breadth. Wash Rotom zipped backwards, creating a crucial distance between itself and the powerful Slowbro.

But within the Trick Room, distance was relative. Slowbro, recovering from the momentary blindness, seemed to teleport again, appearing once more right in front of Wash Rotom, its fist still glowing orange.

Lucian commanded, "Brick Break!"

*BAM*

This time, the attack landed squarely on Wash Rotom's form. A pained cry escaped Rotom, its washing machine exterior groaning under the impact. Yet, even as it took the hit, Rotom retaliated with incredible speed…

*PEW*

A beam of swirling, disorienting energy shot from its digital eyes. Azure grinned, stating, "Confuse Ray!"

Slowbro, already re-establishing its attack, was caught completely off guard. The beam struck its face, and its eyes glazed over, swirling in mismatched directions. It stumbled, shaking its head, utterly confused.

Lucian frowned, a slight crease forming between his brows. He mused mentally, 'I got past his Delta Shield. A clever technique, but I can't let my guard down. This Challenger has many techniques under his belt.'

He tried to wake Slowbro up, urging it to focus, but the Psychic-type Pokémon merely stumbled in place, batting at an imaginary fly. Azure capitalized on Slowbro's confusion, "Strong Style Parabolic Charge!"

*Zzzzz*

Wash Rotom began to spin its agitator wildly, building up massive electric energy. It then discharged a powerful, focused wave of electricity that arced directly towards the disoriented Slowbro.

*CRACKLE-ZAP*

The super-effective Electric attack slammed into Slowbro, causing it to cry out in pain and arc with electricity. Simultaneously, the energy from the attack flowed back to Wash Rotom, visibly restoring its health. Rotom, which had taken damage from the Brick Break, now glowed with renewed vitality, fully recovered once more, "Zzzt! Ya ha! I'm not down yet, folks. I'm just beginning to hype myself up!"

Slowbro, jolted by the powerful attack, finally managed to break free from its confusion, its eyes clearing. But its relief was short-lived. Wash Rotom, having just replenished its energy, was already on the offensive.

Azure roared, "Thunder! Point-blank!"

*KABOOM*

Rotom, still crackling with raw power, zipped forward instantly, its washing machine body emitting a dark, ominous hum. It appeared mere inches from Slowbro's face, then unleashed a devastating, unblockable surge of electricity. The Thunder attack, amplified by Rotom's +5 Special Attack and landing at such close range, was apocalyptic.

*THUD*

Slowbro roared in agony, writhing as the sheer force of the Electric energy consumed it. Its sturdy form convulsed, sparks flying, before it finally collapsed, a heavy thud echoing in the room.

Lucian let out a long, slow sigh, his shoulders relaxing marginally. He retrieved Slowbro's Poké Ball, his gaze lingering on it for a moment before he gently tucked it away and whispered, "You fought well, Slowbro."

*Shiii*

As he did so, the shimmering yellow barrier of the Light Screen, which had been slowly fading, finally dispersed with a soft poof. Almost immediately after, the giant purple cube of the Trick Room, having reached its time limit, shimmered violently, then dissolved into nothingness, restoring the room to its normal perception of time and space.

Wash Rotom, now buzzing normally, gave a frustrated outburst in disbelief of what occurred. Rotom complained loudly, its robotic voice tinged with annoyance, "Ugh! Why didn't that thing disperse earlier?!"

Azure, though relieved, nodded in agreement, running a hand through his hair, and added, "Tell me about it, Rotom. That Trick Room was a pain."

Lucian, hearing their shared frustration, let out a soft, amused chuckle, a rare, genuine sound from the usually composed Elite Four member. He met Azure's gaze, a playful glint in his eyes. He said, his voice shamelessly light, "What horrible timing, indeed. Or, depending on the rest of my team, good timing. Who's to say?"

*Twitch*

Both Wash Rotom and Azure's eyes twitched, a shared irritation passing between them. The slight against Rotom's bravado, the almost mocking tone of Lucian's comment – it cemented their resolve.

Azure thought, a grim determination setting in, 'Oh, you want to play that game, Lucian? Fine. We'll sweep your team, just you watch.'

*ZZZAP-WHIRR*

Rotom, its form still crackling, let out a defiant war cry, hearing Lucian's comment, "You'll see, old man! Just wait!"

Lucian merely smiled, a knowing glint in his eye. The battle, he knew, had only just begun while he adjusted his glasses.
