Lin Xu and Mo Ying soon arrived, along with the carriage carrying the two rescued girls.
Still seated on the horse, Mo Ying looked down at Lin Xu, who had fallen asleep against him. Her fingers clung softly to his robe, her head resting on his chest like a child seeking warmth.
A faint smile appeared on his lips. For someone who always argued and acted tough, she looked so peaceful now quiet and gentle.
He brushed a loose strand of hair from her face and whispered under his breath, "So stubborn when awake… yet so calm when asleep."
His eyes softened. Females truly are strange, he thought. Most of them never let their guard down… unless it's someone they trust.
The horse slowed to a stop in front of the inn. Mo Ying stayed still for a moment longer, just watching her breathe quietly in his arms, before gently tightening his hold on her to keep her from slipping.
