Chapter 209 - Chapter 209: The Avengers Split

For ordinary people living their normal lives, a week flies by quickly, with not much significant change from the previous week at all.

However, for the Avengers organization, this week has been a sea change and a complete transformation of their structure.

Veteran member Sebastian Shaw, the dark wizard, has officially left the Avengers, and the Fantastic Four have left as well, leaving only a limited degree of cooperation through Susan Storm. While Iron Man Tony Stark has not left the Avengers completely, he has resigned his advisory position at S.H.I.E.L.D., effectively severing all ties with the intelligence agency.

Carol Danvers joined the Avengers from S.H.I.E.L.D., and given the previous conflict between Carol and Sebastian, Tony's intentions are clear to everyone.

As for the other members—Vision, Scarlet Witch Wanda, and Quicksilver Pietro—while still remaining official members of the Avengers, they have completely cut off contact with Carol and the S.H.I.E.L.D. team. The Avengers are becoming increasingly divided into factions, giving Steve Rogers a constant headache.

Natasha Romanoff and Clint Barton, two other veteran Avengers from S.H.I.E.L.D., remained aloof from the entire situation, seemingly oblivious to the growing tensions. They simply completed their assigned missions as usual, smiling and greeting everyone like friends. But in reality, they vanished without a trace until the crucial moment arrived when they were needed.

Nick Fury sat in his office at S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters, staring at the old photograph he had taken of Carol Danvers, particularly focusing on the capital letter "A" on the fighter plane in the photo, lost in deep thought.

"Hill... did I do something wrong?"

Sighing heavily, Maria Hill looked at Fury and said, "No, Director, this is your duty to protect Earth. You did nothing wrong. You were just performing your duties as you saw fit."

"But in fact, the Avengers are now divided into several opposing factions, and there are even vague signs of complete splitting. This is also caused by one of my actions. Moreover, the departure of Sebastian and the Fantastic Four, and the distance traveled by Vision, Scarlet Witch, and Quicksilver are all due to this reason. The Avengers, whom I once promoted and helped create, have split because of me. It is really ironic."

Hill looked at Fury and said seriously, "Director, you do not want to give up on your plans, do you?"

"Give up?

Of course not. I am not the kind of person who gives up halfway through a mission. Although I do feel a little ironic and regretful about the situation, that does not mean I want to give up the next plan. I will continue to contact the three targets, mainly Black Panther T'Challa. As long as he is willing to join us, we can agree to his conditions."

Looking at Fury who had regained his independence and determination, Agent Hill breathed a sigh of relief, nodded, turned around and left Fury's office with the documents.

But just when Agent Hill had just left the office, Carol pushed open the door of Fury's office forcefully, walked in with Raina following behind her, and said to Fury with a serious face: "Fury, I have something very important to tell you right now."

Frowning slightly, Fury glanced at Raina with suspicion, nodded and said to Carol: "Carol, sit down and talk slowly about what happened!"

Shaking her head, Carol said directly to Fury: "I do not have time to sit down. Raina just saw the scene of the future in her vision and confirmed that the Hulk Bruce Banner will reappear in New York and cause great damage to New York, killing many innocent civilians. We must stop him before this happens!

So I need the help of S.H.I.E.L.D. to block that area and evacuate civilians."

"Banner will kill a large number of civilians? This is impossible! Since the Battle of New York, Banner has been able to control the Hulk in his body very well, and recently he has been living in seclusion in a country without fighting, helping the poor people there. How could such a thing happen? Are you sure there is no problem here?"

"Fury, believe me, Raina's foresight is never wrong. Her existence is a miracle. Thanks to her help, we have inflicted heavy damage on many dark organizations. We

even gained the upper hand against the Shadow Council. If it were not for the Illuminati's interference, we would have already gained the key to defeating the Shadow Council!"

Carol's expression remained grim and serious. Her previous defeat by Sebastian was her first defeat in decades, and it had been so decisive and overwhelming that Carol could not believe it. She felt that if she had not underestimated him or been too careless, she would not have suffered such a crushing defeat. If there was a next time, she would definitely not repeat this mistake.

Fury was a skeptical person by nature.

Sebastian's strength made him wary of what he would do if he rebelled or fell into darkness.

Naturally, he also had doubts about Raina's so-called foresight abilities.

Fury believed there were no saints in this world. If Raina had any other hidden ideas and altered the contents of her predictions, given the strength of the Avengers, disaster would have immediately struck the organization.

Despite his suspicions, Fury naturally remained silent about them given Carol's current blind trust in Raina.

"Carol, you can lead your team to the predicted location to guard against Banner's appearance. However, you must understand that Banner is Banner and the Hulk is the Hulk. They are not to be confused as the same person. Do not endanger Banner's life."

Looking at Fury, Carol slowly nodded and said, "Of course, I will do my best to protect his life."

"Okay, I will have Agent Coulson's team go with you. They will provide you with all their support and resources."

"Okay, then I will be leaving now!"

Fury watched Carol leave with Raina following behind her, his brow furrowed in concern. After a moment's hesitation, he finally called Tony Stark.

However, a dead tone soon followed, clearly indicating that Tony had rejected his call immediately.

"Motherfucker, that damn bastard..."

Fury cursed inwardly and called Natasha Romanoff again.

The call was quickly connected, and Fury immediately said to Natasha, "Natasha, Carol has taken people to capture Banner. That Inhuman named Raina predicted that Banner would appear in New York and cause destruction. I am not sure if this is true, but if it is, I think you should stop Banner before things become irreversible and people die."

Hearing Fury's words, Natasha on the other end of the line was silent for a moment before nodding and saying, "Okay, I understand. I will tell the others immediately."

After hanging up, Fury sighed heavily, stood up, and walked to the office window, gazing at the sea of clouds outside.

It had been a long time since the New World Sky Fortress was repaired and operational, but he did not feel it was too hard. For him, this life of constant vigilance and difficult decisions was his choice, and he was content with it.

Author's Note:

The Avengers are splitting apart! Do you think Fury made the right call bringing Carol in, or has he doomed the team? Honestly I Like all Marvel characters, no one is a pure saint, Nick has his tendency of being suspicious about everything but I know some where his suspiciousness have saved the universe.
