Chapter 278 - Chapter 278: Fawkes and the Fantastic Beasts Project

The flames erupting from the secret chamber were contained by an invisible barrier. After a few breaths, the flames gradually faded, and Sebastian finally removed the barrier.

At the same moment, a downy young bird stumbled out of the chamber, rubbing against Sebastian's feet and chirping softly.

This young bird was undoubtedly Sebastian's first Fantastic Beasts experiment. However, Sebastian had not anticipated that just as he placed its egg in the incubator, it would emerge on its own, blowing up the incubator and causing his chamber to burn down once again. Hmm, this was quite clever.

With a slight wave of his hand, the young bird flew into Sebastian's palm.

Feeling the powerful force of the phoenix within the young bird, Sebastian wondered whether it would be a crow or a phoenix when it grew up.

"This is Hogwarts. You, too, were born with the power of the Phoenix. From now on, you will be called Fawkes."

The young bird, Fawkes, evidently possessed an intelligence not possessed by ordinary crows. Upon hearing Sebastian's words, it immediately chirped, accepting the name.

With a brief pause, Fawkes leaped onto Sebastian's shoulder, perched there securely. Its small body curled up in a ball, its eyes closed. It was unclear whether it was asleep or simply resting.

Ignoring Fawkes's actions, Sebastian briefly cleaned the Chamber with a flick of his wand, then closed it, leaving the office and heading directly to the laboratory.

Fawkes's success gave Sebastian confidence to continue with his Fantastic Beasts creation project.

However, not all Fantastic Beasts required the power of the Phoenix. In fact, Sebastian's plan was more about using existing methods, combined with genetic technology, to create truly fertile Fantastic Beasts. Otherwise, every Fantastic Beasts would require the power of the Phoenix, and Sebastian would have to create them himself, which would be nothing more than a toy, not a Fantastic Beasts.

And the key to creating Fantastic Beasts was the Reality Stone.

This reality-altering Infinity Stone could undoubtedly do a lot.

The news of a bird perched on the headmaster's shoulder quickly spread throughout Hogwarts.

Few people knew about Sebastian's plan to create Fantastic Beasts. Only Wanda, Selene, and Kaecilius were in the know.

So when they heard the news, they immediately knew Sebastian's experiment might have yielded results. They all came to Sebastian, intentionally or unintentionally, eager to see what his first Fantastic Beasts looked like.

Seeing Fawkes on Sebastian's shoulder, looking like a chick, Selene immediately lost interest and went back to playing with the innocent and naive little boys. Of course, teasing them was fine, but if she dared to do anything rash, toying with their feelings, Sebastian would likely give her a hard time, with no room for negotiation.

As for Kaecilius, after a brief observation, he immediately returned to his office to attend to school matters. While the principal enjoyed a carefree life, the vice-principal had to run around like crazy. A fact Kaecilius himself was content with, and quite willing to accept.

Wanda was the only one left. She looked at Fawkes on Sebastian's shoulder, clearly unable to resist the furry creature. Just as she was about to reach out to touch Fawkes, a blazing flame suddenly erupted in front of her. Fortunately, Wanda reacted quickly and pulled her hand back. Otherwise, the previous blow would have burned her.

"Chichi!"

The cry was still childish, but full of warning.

Fawkes, who had been closing his eyes, stood up, stretched out his immature, featherless wings, and looked at Wanda with extreme caution.

"Wow, what a hot-tempered little creature!"

Fawkes's threats and warnings had no effect on Wanda, and instead made her like him even more.

Sebastian shook his head and chuckled. He reached out and gently patted Fawkes's head, saying, "This is the mistress. From now on, treat her like I would treat you. Understood?"

Fawkes blinked in a very human way, turned to look at Sebastian, then at Wanda, and then subdued his wild nature. With a little effort, he leaped onto Wanda's shoulder and rubbed his furry head against her cheek. His flattery was evident.

Wanda was clearly delighted by Fawkes's flattery and carried him away from Sebastian without so much as a word.

"..."

Sebastian watched Wanda's departure and shrugged helplessly. He had found himself a rival in love, right? He ignored Fawkes's affairs. A powerful Fantastic Beasts would not die even if left to fend for itself, and with Wanda caring for it, it would not be a big deal.

Arriving in his lab, Sebastian inspected the still-running equipment, confirming everything was functioning properly. Then he sat down at the lab bench and prepared to begin his own experiment.

These instruments were provided by Tony and Reed, with Tony primarily responsible for the equipment, while Reed focused on debugging and related technical issues.

Sebastian had handed them the information about the Essex Company he obtained from the X-Men universe three days after returning. After research, they developed instruments that Sebastian could easily control. These instruments, combined with Sebastian's magic, could perform the gene editing and embryo cloning tasks he required, representing a quintessential fusion of magic and technology.

By this point, six Fantastic Beasts had been effectively genetically edited, tailored to Sebastian's needs. As for genetic samples, Sebastian traveled across the nine realms, scouring the genetic material of various supernatural beings for samples. These samples were either cloned directly or modified and genetically edited, then magically imbued with magical powers and souls.

Fawkes's success undoubtedly proved this path feasible.

In the future, the manufacture of magic wands would no longer be so troublesome.

Sebastian had already planted various tree species that could be used to make magic wands, which he had previously plundered from outer space, in the woods behind Hogwarts. After being transformed by magic and technology, those tree species had gradually adapted to Earth's environment while retaining their own characteristics.

This way, the source of wand bodies was already there. Once Fantastic Beasts could reproduce on their own, the source of wand cores would also be there. However, once the Fantastic Beasts were released and combined with those magical trees, Sebastian feared that the Hogwarts he created himself would also have its own forbidden forest.
