Chapter 209 - Chapter 209: Obsessed with World Headlines?!

Zhang Yang really hadn't expected him to show up at the manor—and with a gun.

But his aim was off. The bullet didn't hit Zhang Yang, just smashed a tile on the rooftop.

"WTF? Who told you to open fire?"

Zhang Yang stayed calm on the roof, but Subier panicked first.

Zhang Yang wasn't just his ticket into the tournament—he also had the Angel's Tear necklace.

The last thing Subier wanted right now was for something to happen to Zhang Yang.

Unfortunately, he didn't know who Maket really was. If he did, there's no way he would've spoken to him like that.

Maket shot him a vicious glare, and Subier instantly realized—this man in the security uniform wasn't with the protection company at all.

"He shot at me? Isn't Maket here for a signature?"

Zhang Yang stood tall on the roof, staring down at Maket with an unshaken expression.

If Maket was here to compete, then he'd need the signature. If Zhang Yang was dead, what would be the point?

That gunshot didn't just shock everyone inside the manor—it sent a jolt through the crowd outside too. The noise cut off instantly. Bruce and Harrison shoved forward right away.

Whispers quickly spread through the crowd.

"WTF? Didn't Subier say this was a challenge game? Why are there gunshots?"

"Shit! Is Subier trying to kill Kaitō Kid? Has he gone nuts?"

"Oh my god! Subier isn't a Kaitō Kid fan after all. This whole thing was a trap!"

"Damn it, I hope Kaitō Kid is okay. Why's Subier trying to capture him?"

"Don't tell me Subier can't take a loss? Kaitō Kid stole his necklace and now he's snapping?"

The sudden gunfire in the manor set off a wave of rumors and debates outside.

Bruce and Harrison heard the comments behind them and started to worry.

"Shit! Subier wouldn't go back on his word, would he?"

"Harrison, should we just rush in and check it out?"

Bruce was clearly anxious now.

If that bullet hit Kaitō Kid, maybe they could still manage the fallout.

But if it hit Subier instead—that would be a huge disaster.

Subier's status alone was enough to drag them into deep trouble. Even if France didn't press charges, public outrage online could drown them.

Harrison calmly stared at the pitch-black manor and shook his head thoughtfully.

"No. Wait for Victor to get here."

"Let him make the call. This is France, after all. We can only act with the Enforcement Bureau's approval."

It was a bit selfish, but it spared them from any direct responsibility.

And it was the safest and most reliable move.

Soon, Maket raised his pistol again, aiming it right at Zhang Yang on the roof.

He tilted the barrel slightly downward and shouted loudly, "Kaitō Kid! Come down on your own. I guarantee nothing will happen here!"

Before he even finished, he pulled a remote control out of his pocket.

Zhang Yang's monocle scanned it. The analysis showed it was a wireless control switch. But what it controlled—Maket answered with a smug smile.

"I've planted lots of explosives around the manor. If I press this button, everyone nearby dies."

"Come down now. We can talk."

The thing Zhang Yang feared the most had just happened. Maket was a complete lunatic with zero restraint.

Zhang Yang had been watching out for this. But the fact that Maket still managed to sneak in disguised as a guard was impressive.

Otherwise, Bruce and Harrison would've caught him long ago.

Zhang Yang narrowed his eyes. "What the hell is this guy thinking? Doesn't he know the place is crawling with Enforcement Bureau agents?"

"Does he really think he can walk out of here alive just by waving that thing around?"

Zhang Yang seriously doubted the controller in Maket's hand would do much. And threatening him just to get a signature on the invitation? That was beyond stupid.

He gave a calm smile and turned his eyes toward Subier, who was still stuck in shock.

"What's the matter?"

"Mr. Subier, are you still not letting the Enforcement Bureau agents in?"

This was their jurisdiction.

Zhang Yang wasn't about to hand over his signature just because some lunatic waved a fake detonator around. Even if it did control real explosives—if Maket dared press it, he'd be finished.

There were tons of Enforcement Bureau agents nearby. If Maket could actually escape, Zhang Yang would gladly call him the world's top criminal.

He'd make headlines the very next day, maybe even outshine Kaitō Kid.

Subier understood what Zhang Yang meant. But with Maket still pointing the gun around, how could he make a move?

Maket suddenly turned the gun toward Subier. His eyes were full of murderous intent.

"Move even a little and I'll blow your damn head off!"

Taking advantage of the moment, Zhang Yang quietly slipped to the far side of the rooftop.

He pulled out his phone and shot Bruce a private message.

"Chief Bruce, your guy is in the manor. He's planted a lot of explosives around the place. Good luck."

Zhang Yang had no plans to handle this mess himself. Digging up bombs, evacuating the crowd, and catching Maket? That was way too much for one person.

Unless things got truly desperate, he wasn't doing any of that.

Maket wouldn't press the button that easily—unless he really had a death wish.

After Zhang Yang disappeared from sight, Maket growled in frustration.

"Damn it!"

Then he stormed forward and pressed his gun against Subier's forehead.

"Send your guards to find Kaitō Kid. Now. Or I'll blow your brains out!"

Subier's face darkened. He nodded quickly and waved to the guards to get moving.

Outside the manor, people still had no idea what was going on. Since the gunshot, everything had gone quiet. Even the patrol guards near the gate had vanished.

"Oh my god! Did that bullet actually hit Kaitō Kid? Why is it so quiet?"

"They fired inside the manor and the Enforcement Bureau still hasn't made a move?"

"Victor, that idiot, where is he? What the hell's happening in there?"

"This is ridiculous. There's no way Kaitō Kid got shot. At most, he got spotted!"

"The whole challenge was Subier's idea. Now he's pulling guns? That's just pathetic!"

Victor was already pushing through the crowd with his team.

Bruce held out his phone, showing him the private message from Kaitō Kid. The contents were explosive—literally.

Victor read it and almost lost it on the spot.

If not for the people behind him, he might've shouted out in shock.

"Director Victor, you need to evacuate the crowd immediately!"

"And get your people searching for those explosives. Make sure it's handled safely."

Victor glanced at the pitch-black manor, then looked at Bruce's phone again.

"This message… it's really from Kaitō Kid? Chief Bruce, are you absolutely sure?"

"What if he's trying to mislead us so he can slip away while we're distracted?"

Even in shock, Victor still had one goal—catch Kaitō Kid, no matter what.
