Maket tilted his head and sneered openly, making no attempt to deny it.
Since Harrison already knew that the invitation needed Kaitō Kid's signature to be valid, there was nothing left to hide.
"Director Harrison, looks like you've figured it all out?"
"That's right. All I want is Kaitō Kid's signature. I'm not here to make trouble for you, so I hope you won't make trouble for me either."
As he spoke, Maket deliberately shook the detonator in his hand. That was his trump card—his last resort.
And now, with Subier as a hostage, he still believed he could make it out.
Harrison raised his hands and slowly moved toward Maket.
"Okay, no problem at all!"
"Maket, I'm with you. Let's catch Kaitō Kid together!"
"How about letting Mr. Subier go? Or, I could take his place as your hostage."
Harrison spoke calmly as he closed the distance, clearly aiming to get as close as possible.
But Maket wasn't stupid. He immediately barked for Harrison to stop.
"No! Stay right there!"
"Director Harrison, do you really think I'm some brainless fool?"
"Why would I agree to that deal?"
Upstairs, Zhang Yang stood at the window, watching everything clearly. He could also hear the conversation between the two of them.
He could tell Harrison and Bruce were trying to coordinate and take Maket down. But Maket clearly wasn't cooperating and had no intention of falling for it.
'This won't work.'
Zhang Yang quietly opened the window. With a flick of his wrist, he pulled out a smoke bomb and tossed it right at Maket's feet.
The bomb fell from above—no one saw it coming.
Maket's pupils shrank in shock. He reacted instantly, pulling Subier in front of him to use as a human shield.
Harrison looked up and spotted Zhang Yang closing the window on the second floor.
In the next second, thick smoke burst out from the bomb, quickly engulfing both Maket and Subier. Harrison hesitated only for a split second before charging into the smoke.
'Right. No worries.'
Zhang Yang had already activated the signal jammer. With Harrison's skill, taking down someone like Maket shouldn't be a problem.
The only danger left was the explosives hidden near the manor—but with the controller's signal blocked, it was no longer a threat.
As Harrison rushed in, a gunshot rang out.
Hearing the shot, the guards inside the villa immediately swarmed outside.
Their employer was Subier. Protecting him was their top priority.
Through his monocle, Zhang Yang could clearly see through the smoke.
Right after Harrison entered, Maket opened fire. Harrison dodged with a roll, then swept Maket to the ground with a kick.
Before Maket could even react, Harrison pounced and pinned him down hard, reaching straight for the detonator in his hand.
"Harrison's got skills."
Zhang Yang had never fought Harrison himself, but this was the first time he truly saw it in action.
Maket, furious, swung his gun around and fired blindly. Harrison tilted his head, narrowly dodging the shot.
"Bitch! Get the hell off me!"
Maket thrashed and tried to shake Harrison off.
But Harrison was laser-focused on getting the detonator. The gun in Maket's hand didn't bother him at all.
The real danger was the detonator, and Harrison wasn't letting it go.
From a distance, Bruce saw Harrison dive into the smoke. He no longer held back, pulling out his sidearm and rushing to help.
As soon as Bruce arrived, he snatched the gun out of Maket's hand.
"Bruce, grab the detonator from his hand!"
Maket was struggling on the ground. Just as Bruce was about to snatch the controller from him, Maket furiously slammed the button.
"Die, all of you!"
Harrison and Bruce's faces turned pale. Maket, after pressing the button, shut his eyes tight in panic.
For a moment, it was like time froze. All three of them stood frozen in place.
But after a few seconds passed, nothing happened.
Zhang Yang chuckled softly and stepped back from the window.
With no working detonator, Maket was finished.
As the guards rushed out of the villa, Zhang Yang slipped out through the back door. He walked to the estate wall and quietly climbed over to leave.
Seeing nothing had happened, Harrison and Bruce immediately wrestled the controller from Maket's hand.
Maket let out a crazed howl and thrashed wildly.
Bruce kicked him hard in the face and cursed furiously, "Fuck! You tried to fool us with a fake?"
"Maket, I swear you're going to regret this!"
Ever since receiving Zhang Yang's message, Bruce had been on edge.
That mental stress was far worse than any physical pain.
Maket stared in disbelief at the controller in Bruce's hand. He had hidden the explosives near the estate himself—one by one. There was no way they were fake.
Now he was starting to wonder if he'd wired the wrong lead, which caused the button to fail.
As more guards ran outside, Bruce lunged forward, grabbed a pair of handcuffs from one of their belts, and clamped them on Maket's wrists.
Those cuffs were originally prepared for Zhang Yang, but the guards never even saw him.
Then Bruce raised his fist and punched Maket again, splitting his lip.
"Do you even know who's around this place? Enforcement Bureau agents everywhere—and you thought you could escape?"
"And that stupid fake toy to scare us?"
Bruce was angrier at Maket now than at Kaitō Kid.
Maket spat out a mouthful of blood and grinned darkly.
"Heh heh heh… Director Bruce, you sure it's fake? Go on, press it again if you're so sure."
Bruce's expression froze.
It's not about fear—it's the 'what if'.
Harrison quickly shook his head, signaling Bruce not to touch it.
"The smoke bomb earlier came from Kaitō Kid. Let's wait for Victor's team to finish checking first."
Just as Harrison finished speaking, a brilliant firework exploded in the night sky. One after another, colorful bursts lit up the sky.
Everyone inside the estate looked up in awe. Even Victor's group outside paused to watch.
Seeing the fireworks, Victor exploded in rage.
"Dammit! He got away again!"
"Fuck! Bruce, that bastard! I never should've trusted him!"
Victor kept cursing until the radio crackled with a report.
"Director Victor, we found a bundle of explosives!"
"Reporting in—another bundle found here!"
One by one, the agents called in more discoveries. Only then did Victor's fury start to ease.
"Kaitō Kid's message wasn't fake…"
A cold sweat ran down Victor's back. He felt a wave of lingering fear.
What shook him even more was the nonstop reports of found explosives. There were so many that the only way to describe it was: overwhelming.
