The nation was filled with enormous factories.
Mechanical monsters moved through assembly lines while Sky Striker soldiers monitored their construction.

She looked at the machines.

A nearby engineer looked over.

"Why do we have so many letters?"
The engineer blinked.

"Why?"

The engineer looked confused.
"Because they're part of the ABC system."

She pointed toward the other machines.
"Then why do we suddenly have V, W, X, Y and Z?"

"...Because they're the VWXYZ system."
Kagari slowly turned toward him.
"So we skipped letters."
"Yes."
"Why?"
The engineer opened his mouth.
Then closed it.
He looked at the machines.
He looked at Kagari.
"...I don't know."
Kagari nodded.
"Good."
She crossed her arms.
"At least I'm not the only one confused."
Another engineer walked over.

"Please explain."
The engineer pointed toward the machines.
"The A, B and C machines can combine."

"I know that."
"They become ABC-Dragon Buster."
Kagari looked at the mechanical Dragon displayed on the monitor.
The machine had three thousand ATK.
Her eyes widened slightly.
"Okay."
She admitted it.
"That thing is pretty cool."
The engineer smiled.
"And the V, W, X, Y and Z machines have their own combinations."
The screen changed.
V-Tiger Jet.
W-Wing Catapult.
X-Head Cannon.
Y-Dragon Head.
Z-Metal Tank.
The machines began combining on the screen.
Kagari watched as the components formed larger machines.
Eventually, the completed machine appeared.
VWXYZ-Dragon Catapult Cannon.
Kagari stared.
"...Okay."
She pointed at the machine.
"That's a lot of machinery."
The engineer nodded proudly.
"And it can combine even further."
Kagari's eyes widened.
"Further?"
The screen changed again.
The ABC machine appeared alongside the VWXYZ machine.
The engineer smiled.
"And eventually, we can create A-to-Z-Dragon Buster Cannon."
Kagari stared at the screen.
The enormous machine stood there.
"How many machines are inside that thing?"

Kagari stared at him.
"So basically..."
She pointed toward the screen.
"Someone looked at a pile of machines and thought, 'You know what this needs?'"
She paused.
"More machines."
The engineer nodded.
"Essentially."
Kagari sighed.
"I love this nation."
She stared at the machine again.
"Still doesn't explain why we skipped D through U."
The engineer froze.
Kagari slowly turned toward him.
"Where are D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, N, O, P, Q, R, S and T?"
The engineer looked genuinely concerned.
"...I'll ask the research department."
Kagari nodded.
"Please do."
She turned back toward the factory.
Then she noticed something.
"Wait."
The engineer looked at her.
"What?"
"These things need pilots, right?"
"Yes."
Kagari stared at the giant machines.
"And they can combine."
"Yes."
"Which means someone has to pilot them while they're combined."
"Yes."
Kagari slowly rubbed her forehead.
"So we're building giant combining machines..."
She looked toward the engineers.
"...and someone has to figure out how to pilot all those parts at once."
The engineer smiled.
"That's the plan."
Kagari stared at him.
"That's insane."
The engineer nodded.
"Probably."
Kagari smiled.
"...I want to see it."
She turned toward the factory.
"Activate the prototype."
The engineer's eyes widened.
"Right now?"
Kagari grinned.
"Right now."
Deep inside the factory, machinery began moving.
The engineers suddenly became very nervous.
Kagari's smile grew.
"Let's see what these letter machines can really do."
Spright Blue who was beside Kagari chuckled. "I don't think you are offended by the Mecha, but more you are offended we skipped the Alphabet".
Kagari slowly turned toward Spright Blue.
"Exactly."
Spright Blue chuckled.
"I knew it."
Kagari crossed her arms.
"I have no problem with the machines."
She pointed toward the massive machines being assembled.
"Sky Striker has made giant machines before. Buster Blaster exists. We have plenty of advanced weapons."
Spright Blue nodded.
"Right."
Kagari pointed toward the list again.
"A."
"B."
"C."
Then she pointed farther down.
"V."
"W."
"X."
"Y."
"Z."
She stared at the missing letters.
"Where did D through U go?"
Spright Blue covered his mouth, trying not to laugh.
"You really are bothered by that."
"Yes!"
Kagari looked genuinely frustrated.
"We have an entire alphabet!"
She pointed at A-Assault Core.
"We could have made D-Dragon something."
Then B-Buster Drake.
"E-Energy something."
Then C-Crush Wyvern.
"F-Fighter something."
She threw her hands up.
"Anything!"
Spright Blue laughed.
"You're trying to redesign the entire naming system."
"No."
Kagari paused.
"I'm trying to fix an obvious mistake."
Spright Blue raised an eyebrow.
"An obvious mistake?"
"Yes."
Kagari nodded firmly.
"If you're going to start with A, B and C, you don't just jump to V."
Spright Blue looked toward the machines.
"Technically, the V through Z machines are a different series."
Kagari stared at him.
"That makes it worse."
"How?"
"Because now we have two alphabet-based machine series that refuse to use the alphabet properly."
Spright Blue couldn't hold it anymore.
He burst out laughing.
Kagari glared at him.
"What's so funny?"
"You're treating the alphabet like military logistics."
"It is military logistics!"
She pointed at the machines.
"These are weapons!"
Spright Blue wiped his eyes.
"Fair."
Kagari sighed and looked back at the factory.
The machines continued moving through the assembly line.
She watched A-Assault Core being attached to a massive mechanical frame.
Then she looked at the other machines.
"Still..."
She narrowed her eyes.
"Imagine how much better this would look."
Spright Blue already knew where this was going.
"Oh no."
Kagari smiled.
"D-Assault Dragon."
Spright Blue blinked.
"That's terrible."
"E-Energy Dragon."
"Worse."
"F-Fusion Core."
"Why are you doing this?"
Kagari continued.
"G-Giga Tank."
Spright Blue started laughing again.
Kagari grinned.
"See? We're already fixing it."
A nearby engineer quietly walked away.
He had decided that whatever happened next was above his pay grade.
Kagari's phone suddenly rang.
She looked down at the screen.
"Raye?"
She answered immediately.
"Hey, little sis. What's up?"
There was a brief silence.
Then Raye's voice came through the phone.
"Sis... I, um... went to the part of the house you told me not to go into."
Kagari's smile disappeared.
Her heart practically stopped.
"RAYE!"
Spright Blue jumped.
Kagari immediately stood up.
"Whatever you do, do not touch Ace Code!"
There was another pause.
Raye's voice sounded strangely calm.
"I understand it."
Kagari froze.
"...What?"
The call went silent.
Then...
Click.
The call ended.
Kagari stared at her phone.
"..."
Spright Blue slowly looked at her.
"Kagari?"
She immediately grabbed her equipment.
"Spright."
"Yeah?"
"We need to get to my house."
Spright Blue blinked.
"ASAP?"
"ASAP."
He looked confused.
"Wow. What happened?"
Kagari looked at him with genuine fear.
"My little sister just unsheathed Ace Code."
Spright Blue stopped moving.
His expression went completely blank.

"Yes."

Spright Blue stared at her.

Kagari's expression became increasingly worried.
"Apparently."
Silence.
Spright Blue rubbed his forehead.
"That's not normal."
Kagari grabbed him by the arm.
"Which is why we need to move."
They rushed toward the exit.
Spright Blue looked back at the factory.
"What about the machines?"
"Forget the machines!"
Kagari pulled him along.
"My sister just activated a weapon that was sealed for a reason!"
Spright Blue's eyes widened.
"Wait."
He suddenly stopped.
"Kagari."
"What?"
"If Raye actually unsheathed Ace Code..."
Kagari stopped too.
Spright Blue looked at her.
"What happens when she swings it?"
Kagari's face went pale.
"That's exactly what I'm afraid of."
They both immediately started running again.
Neither of them noticed the faint black energy beginning to spread from the direction of Kagari's house.
And somewhere inside that house...
Raye stood before the ancient weapon.
Her small hands wrapped around its handle.
The blade was completely black.
Strange markings covered its surface.
The weapon seemed to pulse.
Raye tilted her head.

The weapon responded with a low hum.
Raye smiled.
"I think we'll get along."
Outside, the sky suddenly darkened.
Kagari looked up while running.

Meanwhile, Spright Blue's voice came through her phone.

Kagari gritted her teeth.
"Why didn't you tell me that before?!"
"I did."
"You sent me the message after you left!"
"Details."
Kagari accelerated.
She knew Spright was joking, but she couldn't laugh.
Not now.
Ace Code was no ordinary weapon.
It was a cursed weapon from an age even the oldest Sky Striker records barely remembered. The weapon had been sealed because nobody could safely control it.

She had tried once.
The result had been enough to convince her that some weapons were better left untouched.

Back at the house, Raye stood in the forbidden chamber.

In the center of the room floated a strange sword.

Raye stared at it.

The sword slowly turned toward her.
The room went silent.
Then the weapon spoke.
"Finally."
Raye froze.
"...You can talk?"
"Yes."
The little girl slowly reached toward the sword.
"Are you evil?"
The sword paused.
"That's a complicated question."
Raye blinked.
"That sounds like something an evil sword would say."
"Fair."
Raye smiled.
Then the doors behind her exploded open.
BOOM!
Kagari landed in the doorway.
"RAYE!"
Raye turned around.
"Sis!"
Kagari immediately ran toward her.
"Get away from the sword!"
Raye stepped back.
"But it talks."
"I don't care!"
Ace Code floated between them.
Kagari stopped.
Her hand slowly moved toward her weapon.
"...Ace Code."
The cursed sword's energy intensified.
"Kagari."
Raye looked between them.
"You two know each other?"
Kagari's expression became completely serious.
"Unfortunately."
Everyone stared at the weapon.
The black blade floated in the air, its red markings glowing faintly.
Kagari kept her eyes fixed on it.
"What do you want?"
Ace Code's voice was calm.
"What do I want?"
The sword tilted slightly toward Raye.
"Nothing."
Kagari frowned.
"Nothing?"
Ace Code gave a quiet hum.
"I have waited thousands of years for someone worthy to wield me."
Raye looked at the sword.
"Me?"
Ace Code's red markings glowed brighter.
"Yes."
Kagari immediately stepped between them.
"No."
Raye blinked.
"Sis?"
Kagari pointed at Ace Code.
"You are not taking my little sister."
Ace Code was silent for a moment.
Then it spoke.
"I did not say I intended to take her."
Kagari narrowed her eyes.
"Then explain."
Ace Code slowly floated toward Raye.
Kagari's hand moved toward her weapon.
The sword stopped.
"I have been sealed for thousands of years because every person who attempted to wield me lacked the qualities required."
Raye looked curious.
"What qualities?"
Ace Code answered immediately.
"Strength is one."
Raye smiled.
"I have strength?"
"Not enough."
Her smile disappeared.
"Hey!"
Spright Blue snorted.
Kagari tried not to laugh.
Ace Code continued.
"Skill is another."
Raye crossed her arms.
"I can learn."
"Yes."
The sword's markings glowed.
"You can."
Raye's eyes widened.

"But neither strength nor skill is what makes you worthy."
Kagari looked suspicious.
"Then what does?"
Ace Code turned toward Raye.
"Will."

"I need someone who can decide where that sword should be pointed."
Raye stared at it.
Ace Code continued.
"Someone who can carry power without allowing power to carry them."
Kagari's expression softened slightly.

"Yes."

"That wasn't supposed to happen."
Ace Code's voice echoed through the chamber.
"The seal has recognized its new master."
Raye smiled.
And somewhere deep beneath the Sky Striker Nation, ancient machinery suddenly began to awaken.
