Kara was still staring at me, completely oblivious to the question. Her reaction was different from the others, as if she'd seen a ghost. Her heart was beating faster, and her pupils were unusually narrowed and twitching. Her reaction made me a little nervous, it was definitely not fear, I didn't even realize what was happening to her....
"Did she realize who I am? Hmm, unlikely... Then what's wrong with her?" - Mentally I went through several options, but I couldn't think of a reason at all. Maybe it had something to do with her bone marrow changing me, was all I could think of.
Deciding not to take too long, I took a seat next to the girl and patted her shoulder:
«Hey, what's wrong with you? Are you okay? - As soon as I touched her, she flinched and sort of woke up. Though her heart and breathing were still not quite right. She looked away and fixed her glasses and said:
«Y-yeah, it's okay, I'm just a little preoccupied.
I smiled, and afterward I looked at the dying old man:
«His pulse is weakening pretty fast, from the looks of it, he'll be dead within a couple minutes.
«What? How do you know, you're a doctor? Can you help him? - The old man's daughter asked with hope in her voice.
Maxwell, on the contrary, frowned and asked suspiciously:
«You haven't even taken a pulse, how do you know?
«Oh! Good question... - I grinned, then drew a circle with my hand and quickly began to cover the area around me with ice. In a couple of seconds, the ice formed a solid, transparent wall that separated us from Maxwell Lord. From something like that, the two behind the wall stepped away in shock. I smiled and waved at the shocked Maxwell, then turned to Kara. The girl was definitely surprised, though not as much as her dark-skinned friend.
He jumped up abruptly and stepped away from me. I only grinned at his reaction:
«Don't chicken out. I thought you weren't supposed to be surprised by that?
The guy smiled crookedly and said:
«Well, I've seen all sorts of things, but ice management....
«Who are you?" Kara asked with a slight tremor in her voice. I was sure her reaction had something to do with the bone marrow I'd absorbed. She hadn't been like this before, now it was very hard to understand her emotions. Also, I felt a strange connection too, but it was almost imperceptible. But it seems to be different for the girl.....
The man was nearing his end, so I calmly said:
«I'll tell you about me later. First you have to make a choice.
«What choice? - The girl asked, still staring at me.
"Hmm, it's not like it's a crush or anything, and even that would be impossible, we just met. But she's looking at me too mesmerized and her reaction is very strange. It's like she doesn't care about anything else around her"-thinking about her unusual behavior again, I still couldn't come to any logical conclusions. I'd never experienced anything like this before, so it made me nervous.
Pushing aside the thoughts that were unnecessary right now, I calmly replied:
«The choice is very simple, I can save this man, but in return, you will do something for me.
«I agree," Kara nodded without a second thought.
Olsen gave her a strange look, but didn't interfere. I wasn't so surprised anymore and decided to ask for a useful thing. If I had such an opportunity, how could I miss it?
«I need green kryptonite.
«Okay," Supergirl agreed without objection.
«What? Kara, are you serious? You don't even know him, why would you agree to something like that? - A concerned Olsen finally intervened.
Without turning to the guy, Kara said:
«I...I don't know why, but...I believe him. - Looking up at me, the girl smiled: - I'm sure he won't hurt me.
That smile put me in a slight stupor. I didn't understand why, but my body reacted strangely. I knew what that reaction was, and it made it even more confusing.
"Damn! This is definitely some ridiculous connection..." - Although I felt a little strange, there was nothing I could do about it. Sticking my hand into my pocket, I quickly pulled out a small flask of water. Then, I dripped a few drops into the old man's mouth, and then onto his chest where the injury had occurred.
Immediately, literally before his eyes, the old man began to heal. Of course, this would only heal him superficially and stop the bleeding; otherwise, he would need the help of doctors. I nodded calmly and stood up.
«That's it, now he has time, don't waste it," I added with a look at Kara:
«Don't forget the agreement, get the kryptonite, and then.... Hmm, I'll find you and get it. - Turning around, I leaned my hand against the ice wall and it quickly collapsed. I then looked up at the top of the high rise and teleported away.
«P-wait!" Kara tried to say something, but I had already moved through the wall of the building, right inside Maxwell's organization.
I didn't really want to talk to her yet, it was worth considering my feelings right now. I hadn't thought about how this could happen before. The more I was around her, the stranger I felt. It was like my bond was getting stronger....
Looking around, all I saw was a long corridor on either side of me. I used my x-ray vision and teleported through the wall, but I didn't choose a spot. Perhaps that was another huge plus of the Kryptonian's abilities. If I could also see in the dark, without any light sources, that would be even better. Now acquiring Dr. Light's abilities no longer seems like a futile endeavor. If she can emit light from any part of her body, and under any conditions, it might help. Still, my ice doesn't glow, and Weather Powers to control lightning would be useless in some places, so light would be very useful. Of course, spatial fluctuations due to Reverb powers cause light, but that doesn't sound like a solution to me. Being able to see in the dark is too difficult to achieve, but having the power to emit light to never be in the shadows would be nice.
Well, it doesn't matter so much now, somehow I managed without light before, and now teleportation powers have almost no limitations, so everything is quite fine.
Looking through the walls again, I found two curious places. First, it was a room with a patient who had a very strange condition. And second, it was Maxwell's office. I decided to start in his office, so I went straight there.....
