Eve's POV:
Okay, I don't know when or how I fell asleep, but I did. One moment I was curled up beside the hatchlings, whispering nonsense to them about their father and how Salem was definitely going to show up soon with food, and the next, I was waking up to find myself entangled in wings.
Soft, leathery, warm wings.
The babies had cocooned me in a nest of scales and sleepy dragon limbs, like I was their favorite toy they didn't want to lose. Their wings draped over me like blankets, heavy but comforting, their tiny bodies pressed close for warmth. I couldn't move without dislodging at least two tails and an entire wing.
I must've looked like some sort of oversized doll to them, the way they were cradling me in their protective little circle, their wings spread out like a soft blanket. It was kind of adorable, and I couldn't help but smile at the sight. For once, it was a moment of peace. Well, peace in the sense that no one was trying to kill anyone else.
