"Damn it, what is this technique?! Why do they all have actual energy?!" Kariel snarled in frustration. She couldn't tell which version was real. Her only choice was to brace for a surprise attack.
Then out of nowhere one of the Li Yis lunged at her.
"Got you!"
Smirking, Kariel whipped around with a spinning kick.

Her leg passed clean through him only a fading afterimage.

Li Yi suddenly materialized directly in front of Carlier, driving a fist deep into her abdomen. The sheer force of the strike caused Carlier's eyes to bulge as pain rippled through her core, her body arching inward like a boiled shrimp. The devastating blow knocked the wind out of her lungs and left her temporarily incapacitated.
Moments later, Carlier's energy began to destabilize, and the fusion defused. In a burst of light, she separated into Caulifla and Kale, both dropping to their knees.
"Oww, that really hurt!" Caulifla grunted, clutching her stomach.
"Caulifla, you lost again," Li Yi said with a self-satisfied grin. Over the past three years, Caulifla had repeatedly challenged him to fights, yet she lost each time despite her potential.
"Tch! If I had gone full-on Legendary Super Saiyan, there's no way I'd have lost!" Caulifla protested, scowling.
"But Kale still can't control that form yet. Every time she transforms, she loses her mind, and it becomes too risky for both of you," Li Yi replied calmly. "Besides, I didn't even transform this time."
"When Kale and I fuse, we're insanely strong! If we both transformed, we'd mop the floor with you!" Caulifla declared, hands defiantly on her hips.
"You should focus on improving your base combat power," Li Yi advised. "Fusion is powerful, sure, but Dad says once our power levels get high enough, fusion's relative gains diminish. It's not a solution for everything."
"Then tell me," Kale asked quietly but firmly, "is there any way to power up faster? Your progress over the last few years is crazy."
"There is a way... but I can't help you with it," Li Yi said with a shrug. "Only Dad can."
"Wait, really?!" Caulifla's eyes lit up with hope. She had only asked on a whim, but now she was fully interested.
"Dad has a seed from a Tree of Might it can bear Spirit Fruits that grant a massive combat boost to whoever eats them," Li Yi explained.
"Then let's find your dad now! I want one of those fruits!" Caulifla exclaimed eagerly.
Just then, Li Xu appeared, walking into the room casually.
"What do you want from me?" he asked, smirking.
"Uncle Li Xu! Gimme a Spirit Fruit! I need it to beat Li Yi!" Caulifla begged.
"I don't have any right now," Li Xu said, raising his hands. "Back then, Bulma ate most of the fruits I had, and the rest went to Android 18. I'm out."
"But don't you still have seeds?" Caulifla pressed.
"I do... but if you want a fruit, I've got a small favor to ask," Li Xu said with a grin.
"What kind of favor?" Caulifla tilted her head suspiciously.
"Do you know about Hit?" Li Xu asked, his expression now serious.
"Hit? Oh yeah he's that legendary assassin from Universe 6, right?" Caulifla responded after thinking a bit.
"Do you know how to commission him for a job?" Li Xu asked.
Caulifla blinked. "Uhh... no clue. But my big bro Renso might know! I can go ask him!"
"Good," Li Xu said. "If you can get me that information, I'll give you one fruit."
"Wait, Uncle you're not planning to hire Hit to take someone out, are you? Aren't you, like, already insanely strong?" Caulifla asked, suspicious.
"Just help me get the info," Li Xu said vaguely, still smiling.
"Alright! I'll get you the answer super quick so don't forget your promise!" Caulifla said, grabbing Kale by the arm and dashing off excitedly.
Li Yi watched them go, then turned to his father with a troubled look. "Dad, don't give too many fruits to Caulifla. If she eats a bunch of them, she might get stronger than me!"
He wasn't exaggerating. Li Yi knew that with Li Xu's power and cultivation ability, the latest Spirit Fruits he could produce were bound to be stronger than the last batch.
"If you don't want others to surpass you," Li Xu said sternly, "you'll have to rely on your own training."
"I will. I promise I'll work even harder," Li Yi replied with determination.
"Good. Now, I'm heading out to Universe 6 for a bit. If your mother asks, make sure to tell her. I don't want her worrying," Li Xu said.
"Got it!" Li Yi nodded.
And with a sharp whoosh, Li Xu disappeared, his aura fading into the void as he teleported away.
