It all happened too quickly; Saqin had no idea what was going on. He just felt the surroundings suddenly darken, and then Suzi forcefully pushed him aside.
When Saqin turned his head, he only saw the sky filled with starlight crashing down again. The Throat of the Abyss had retreated into the Curved Pathway Rift in advance, and this bloated worm was constantly gnawing at the pathway, appearing and disappearing in this strange space, flickering, moving, with deadly starlight tailing it indistinctly.
Saqin didn't care about these things. He detected that pungent smell of blood and slowly moved his gaze back to the ground. He saw Suzi lying behind him, blood flowing along her remaining body, extending backward to beneath the still-unhealed Curved Pathway Rift.
