I hadn't gotten a single moment alone with Chloe since that early morning she asked me to leave her room.
Not once.
That fact sat in my chest like a stone—heavy, unmoving, impossible to ignore.
After everything I had told her. After laying myself bare in ways I never had with anyone before. After confessing truths I had buried so deep I'd convinced myself they didn't exist anymore… I expected a lot of things.
Anger. Tears. Silence. Distance. Questions. Accusations. Anything at all
But this—this wasn't any of them.
It wasn't normal.
It was the same unsettling calm she had worn the first time I told her almost everything. I had finally admitted and I had confirmed her mother was having an affair with my father before she died. I remembered bracing myself for the fallout. I remembered how I'd rehearsed a thousand versions of her reaction in my head.
