Zoe's POV
I didn't expect it. Not from him. Not ever. So when Bob Makavelli stepped forward and actually challenged Mr. Huffman, I genuinely thought I was hearing things.
"That's not fair," Bob said, his voice calm but firm enough to cut through the entire room. "With all due respect, she earned that position. You said it yourself—she worked for it. The least you can do is give her a chance to prove herself."
Silence. Complete silence. My heart slammed against my ribs. Did he just stand up for me? I blinked, stunned, my lips parting slightly as I stared at him. For once— for the first time— we were on the same side.
"I can't believe this," I muttered under my breath, something close to pride curling in my chest. Beside me, Guz snorted. "Thought you said you didn't like him." I scratched the back of my head awkwardly. "I never said I didn't like him… I just said I hated his guts."
