Chapter 394 - Chapter 393: Northern Turmoil

The Organization claimed that yoma had existed since ancient times and stood at the top of the food chain. But that was a lie—an enormous lie.

Yoma only started appearing in the last 100 years. They were the first wave of special soldiers. Back then, there was no Organization, no systematic research—just random implantation of flesh chunks. That eventually led to parasitic cells, which gave birth to the earliest yoma.

When the Organization arrived on the Experiment Continent, they started out the same way. Some of their own even got eaten by yoma. But yoma here evolved the ability to change their hosts and mimic normal humans in every way. Still, they weren't reliable weapons—they'd kill their own allies too.

Then came the first batch of male Claymores. They were the first ones trained before having Dragon Descendant composite flesh implanted. But in the end, every one of them Awakened. That led to the development of female Claymores. There had already been several generations of them, but the results still weren't ideal.

Now the Organization was working on the Twin Project out of desperation. They were trying to control Awakening by synchronizing youki between twins. After countless experiments, from the Luciela–Rafaela sisters to the current Alicia and Beth, the Twin Project had finally produced some results.

Honestly, after reading the manga, Kid had no idea how to judge the Organization. Claymores were already impressive. But the Organization wasn't satisfied—they kept pushing for more. Then again, Kid understood their side too. The Experiment Continent was different from his homeland. Back home, people were comrades. If even one Claymore Awakened, it could lead to mass casualties. That kind of weakness could get exploited by enemy nations.

So rather than saying the Organization was hesitant, it was more like they bore too heavy a burden to afford mistakes.

When Kid said the yoma were actually the Organization's creation, the Claymores' expressions were priceless. They looked skeptical, but Kid's logic was sound. They couldn't help but believe him.

Jeanne had long since shifted her attention from Clare to Kid. This mysterious man—what was he planning? "Are you from the Continent of Flames too?"

"No, no. I have nothing to do with them. And really, I don't have much to do with you either," Kid replied. "I just couldn't stand watching you all live in the dark. I'm giving you the truth. What you do with it is up to you. But if you need help, I'll do whatever I can."

In his mind, Kid felt he was being pretty restrained. Otherwise, he would've already kicked the Organization off the Experiment Continent himself.

Jeanne stood up abruptly. "Thanks for your touching story. But we're leaving now. That includes you, Clare. Come with me."

Kid smiled faintly. He knew Jeanne had already accepted everything he'd said. She just didn't want her comrades to get hurt. If any of this leaked and the Organization found out, their end would be brutal.

That's why Jeanne had to protect her team. She couldn't let them believe any of it. Couldn't let them repeat it either.

The four Claymores huddled around Jeanne and asked if it was all true. For their safety, Jeanne told them it was fake. She warned them not to mention any of it to anyone.

Only after repeating the warning several times did she let them leave. What she didn't know was that she'd be seeing Clare again very soon.

Clare gave Jeanne a deep look. She was smart. She knew Jeanne was protecting them. And she was deeply moved. This was true Claymore friendship.

Right now, Isley was leading his army of Awakened Beings south. Soon, they'd be out of the northern lands. The Organization couldn't let them run wild, so the largest Claymore mobilization in history was underway. Lululu made some recommendations and added all the half-Awakened Claymores into the Northern Suppression Force.

Twenty-four Claymores. Six squads of four. It was a spectacular sight as they headed north. That kind of fighting power was unprecedented—it gathered half the continent's Claymores along with the Organization's current core force.

If those twenty-four Claymores were lost in this campaign, the Organization would be in serious trouble.

Isley had gathered a ragtag bunch of Awakened Beings. They had no concept of teamwork and acted individually. While they were drawn to Isley's personal charisma, they looked down on their peers. Everyone wanted to prove their own strength, so there was no chance of cooperation.

It had only been a few days since Kid and Clare last met, and now she was seeing Jeanne again—along with her old teammate Miria from their first campaign against the Awakened.

Claymores from across the continent had gathered. Each one had her own style and personality. In the snowy northern lands, a massive battle was about to erupt.

And that still wasn't the full picture.

Isley had sent two squads of Awakened to pin down the western and eastern forces, while he personally led Priscilla in a direct march south.

At the same time, a huge battleship surfaced on the southern seas. It was the army of Dragon Descendants, here to wipe out the Organization.

Everything was crashing together. And Earth's outpost just happened to sit right in the path of Isley's southern march. The humans from Earth didn't know any of this yet. Even Kid had his focus on the north and had no idea about the enemy coming from the south.

He wouldn't have guessed that Luciela would turn around and try to sell them out to Lululu like a backstabbing snake. Unfortunately for her, the countries on the Continent of Flames weren't easy to deal with. Touch their bottom line, and they'd send destruction.

War was about to ignite on the Experiment Continent.

Kid was still observing the assembled Claymore girls, using the high-def camera Batman had provided to document this war that would reshape the power structure of the continent.

In the original story, the Claymores had it rough. The enemy was just a few Awakened Beings, and they still lost seventeen Claymores. The casualties were massive.

Kid stood in the white snow, not very noticeable, which let him watch the Claymore girls without worry. Of course, he also kept his eyes on Isley, the handsome silver fox, and Priscilla beside him—the being that made even the Abyss tremble.

Northern towns had already been emptied of humans. On his way there, Kid saw a long line of refugees fleeing south with their families.

Now only the Claymores were left in the town. It was the first time so many of them had gathered like this since starting their missions. Some of the girls who knew each other from before reunited and caught up peacefully.

But even Claymores had feelings. They couldn't help but notice some unfair things. Like the treatment of the main character—someone ranked all the way down at NO. 47—getting tossed into a battle of this scale. Wasn't she just going to drag them down?

But Clare was used to being looked down on. She didn't mind at all. The most important thing now was to hold the north. They couldn't let the Awakened army push any farther south.

Not that it was much of an army—it was just a chaotic mob. They spread out in scattered groups, and the first batch of three Awakened entered the town.

The battle had begun.
