Chapter 139 - They Psychic Edge

The oceans surface was covered with a bloody foam, the air still hung heavy from the lingering smoke of the last missile that Alara fired. Raven watched as the body parts from the shark began to float on the oceans surface. As Raven turned toward Alara, eyes narrowing with appreciation she said to her.

"Alara," Raven said, with a pround smile on her face. "I'm not sure there is anything more I can teach you about guns or explosives. Most of your gunshots and bombs are already hitting their targets dead center. What more is there for me to teach you.

Alara brushed a strand of damp blond hair behind her ear, as her mouth curled into a satisfied smile. "That's for sure Raven. I have been training nonstop in Sanctuary day and night. I better be improving my aim." Alara turned, her gaze back to the ocean water. "But Raven don't think I haven't noticed you are getting close to your level two awakening. The same as me. I can feel it. My next evolution is not far away."

Raven raised her eyebrow in question. "You feel the signs, too."

Alara nodded, her tone serious. "That shark we just hit? It was already half a step into a level one mutated aquatic creature. If it was fully mutated, that missile might not have hurt it much. Soon, normal weapons may not be effective anymore on mutated creatures." Alara paused, then continued saying. "Raven I think my new abilities are tied to the mind they seem like psychic powers. I can sense the strength of our enemies with my mind, and know their weaknesses as if every zombie is a part of me. It's more than psychic feedback. This is information I shouldn't know but somehow do.

Raven turned towards Alara, surprised. "I suspected something was going on during your fight with Sam Dalton. You weren't just fighting him. You were... beginning to control him. Alara if this is what your powers can do, we will always have a tactical edge over our enemies."

Raven moved to the edge of the speed boats deck, crossing her arms. "If you can influence human minds and command zombies, then we won't need to waste our time or ammo on killing people anymore. Use a pack of mind-controlled zombies, and we can clear a building from a distance."

Alara responded to Raven, saying, "We could use zombies to surround the NYC Civil Communications Bunker for protection."

Raven smiled, nodding her head in approval. "Our base needs a new name. So let's call it Camp Echo from now on. That way, if anyone overhears us menton it, they won't know where we are talking about. This way, the base stays hidden while we build up our forces."

Alara's expression dimmed as she decided to mention something bothering her. "I felt a few humans watching us, Raven. When we were outside the library. Some humans were watching us from the shadows of a nearby building. They were focused on you Raven. I think they were from Epsilon Base."

Raven's jaw tightened. "So they're making a move on us already." Raven said as she looked out across the waves. "Don't worry, Alara. I will craft a few new drones tonight. From now on, we will see any enemies before they see us. I've got a few additional surprises in mind for my new flying drones as well it's about to become exciting around here."

Alara poked Raven's cheek with her finger. "Stop evil monologuing, Raven. There's no one around to listen to you. It's bad form when we are alone you need an audience."

Raven slapped Alara's hand away, feigning offense. "Sorry, I got carried away. But I think we have become the bad guys."

Alara laughed. "Bad girls, Raven. Bad girls. And who cares? No one ever said that the real winners in life have to be the good guys."

Alara leaned against the missile launcher, as she said to Raven. "If you play your cards right tonight Raven, I might wear that panda girl outfit. But only because blowing up fish is so much fun. Don't expect me to always dress up for you as a treat."

Raven burst out laughing. "What are you talking about, Alara? It's just a pair of panda animal ears. You wear ears for me every night already. And half of the outfits are your idea anyway. I will admit, though—I probably did corrupt you with anime. But hey, Sanctuary's the only place where the internet still works, so we have to enjoy the privilege."

Alara and Raven stood together for a moment, as the wind brushed against them, the boat gently swaying on the ocean. Then Raven noticed the shark chunks in the water disappearing.

Alara's eyes narrowed. Without a word, she stepped back to the launcher and took aim firing at the new threat.

The missile fired.

Boom. Another explosion split the waves.
