Chapter 139 - Captain America: The New Generation of Batman

"Bucky's situation is very complex. Although he was previously a killer controlled by Hydra, there's a high probability that he later broke free from Hydra's control."

Captain America spoke seriously, introducing the situation to the group.

"If Bucky were still that Hydra killer, there's no way so many people would have chosen to help me and Bucky during the Civil War."

"Moreover, didn't Stark say before that Bucky participated in Endgame and fought against Thanos with everyone?"

Everyone agreed with Captain America's words.

If Bucky Barnes was still the Winter Soldier, why would Hawkeye Barton, Sam Wilson, and the other enhanced individuals choose to help Captain America?

Perhaps they didn't know much about Sam Wilson, Ant-Man Scott Lang, and Scarlet Witch at the moment, so they weren't good points of reference. But looking at Hawkeye Barton alone was enough.

He and Black Widow had just put on a show of "competing to die," showcasing his personal qualities for everyone.

No one really believed that Hawkeye, Clint Barton, would help a heinous Hydra assassin.

Not to mention, Captain America was backing him.

Who was Captain America?

He was the spiritual model from World War II until now!

The possibility of the Winter Soldier, Bucky Barnes, breaking away from Hydra in the future and "starting over" was quite high, and everyone was willing to believe this.

"Bucky Barnes was a member of the Howling Commandos, once the Captain's comrade and partner. If he had already broken away from Hydra at that time, and the Captain just happened to need to ask someone for help."

"Barnes would definitely be the Captain's first choice!" Black Widow said in a very affirmative tone.

The only thing unclear now was whether Bucky Barnes had broken away from Hydra at that time.

"So, after roughly reviewing the four options, we currently can't rule out any of them," Tony Stark shrugged on the side. "Let's analyze them one by one."

"Let's look at A first." Tony Stark focused on A, and after a moment's thought, he made his choice.

"I don't think it'll be me!"

"First of all, I don't think I get along with Captain America, so the possibility of us being good friends in the future is small."

"I agree with that." Captain America nodded in agreement.

Ever since he had been brought back to life and started interacting with Tony Stark, he really couldn't stand the guy.

Although there were things about the man that he admired and respected, such as flying a nuclear missile into a wormhole, Tony Stark's personality really left a lot to be desired.

Captain America could hardly imagine himself becoming good friends with such a guy in the future, let alone partners.

Of course, this was just the current feeling of Captain America and Iron Man, and that was all. Who knew what would happen in the future?

It's entirely possible for people who initially can't stand each other to eventually become willing to trust each other with their lives.

In fact, it's a pretty common trope. Many buddy-cop movies and shows use this formula. You could even look at Stark's attitude toward Captain America during the Civil War for a good example.

"Well, at least we agree on something."

Tony Stark shrugged. "The first point is just a side note. The second point is the most important one: Captain is trying to figure out what's on that USB drive!"

"Maybe the USB drive is encrypted with some kind of advanced technology that Captain can't crack, so he's trying to interrogate a Hydra agent."

"But if Captain actually came to me, do you think that would even be a possibility? What kind of USB drive is there that I can't crack?"

"Does such a USB drive even exist?"

Tony Stark shrugged, then swept his gaze across everyone present with an air of arrogance and confidence.

Although he was still as arrogant and boastful as ever, no one really voiced any objections.

After all, it was true. As far as they knew, the only one who might surpass Tony Stark in this area was Ultron.

Other than that, Jarvis was the most advanced artificial intelligence in the world.

S.H.I.E.L.D., the Department of Defense, and other organizations' systems had all been cracked by Tony Stark using Jarvis. A USB drive? It was highly unlikely that Stark couldn't crack it.

"And look at me, people! What am I? A playboy, a billionaire, a super genius. I have so many identities, but I'm not a spy!"

Tony Stark shrugged. "Pressuring Hydra and the like, that's what spies do! The Captain wouldn't ask me to do that."

"Stark can indeed be temporarily ruled out," Captain America nodded, agreeing with Tony Stark's assessment.

Then, his gaze shifted slightly downwards. "I don't know much about Sam Wilson yet, but I think I can rule out Clint Barton as well."

"Before Nick Fury died, he told me not to trust anyone, and then I was immediately hunted by S.H.I.E.L.D."

"So in that situation, I wouldn't have easily contacted any S.H.I.E.L.D. agents."

Everyone present nodded slightly; Captain America's words made a lot of sense.

In that kind of situation, not to mention Clint Barton, no one in S.H.I.E.L.D. could be contacted.

This was basic training for a well-trained soldier.

"Then the answer lies between Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes, how much do we know about these two?"

Hawkeye, Clint, glanced at the veterans who had participated in the quiz before and asked.

"Sam Wilson, a retired Air Force officer, was a paratrooper. He helped the Captain in many missions. Bucky Barnes, everyone should know about him, so I won't say more."

Black Widow briefly introduced the two to everyone.

"Neither of these two are with S.H.I.E.L.D., and either could have received Captain's help," Hawkeye nodded.

"So, the key now is to determine whether Bucky Barnes was still affiliated with Hydra at the time. If we can confirm that, the answer to this question will be clear," Black Widow summarized.

Between Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes, the possibility of it being Bucky Barnes was naturally the highest.

Once it was confirmed that Bucky Barnes wasn't with Hydra at that time, the answer would undoubtedly be Bucky Barnes.

If it was confirmed that Bucky Barnes was with Hydra, then the answer would be Sam Wilson.

Of course, it was also possible that they couldn't determine it. If that happened, they would have to analyze the situation further.

"But… unfortunately, Bucky Barnes was still with Hydra at that time."

After some thought, Tony Stark was the first to grasp the situation and make a judgment.

He had seen the footage of Nick Fury's "murder" with his own eyes, so he understood more details than the others present, allowing him to be the first to react.

"That's right, Bucky should still have been the Winter Soldier then," Captain America nodded, agreeing with Tony Stark's assessment. He then explained his reasoning to everyone.

"Clint said before that I pretended to be with Hydra in Stark Tower to steal the scepter, which happened before the Insight Project was stopped."

"At the time, I pretended to be with Hydra and deceived Sitwell, but this would have been exposed quickly. There was a high probability that I would have been framed as a criminal and wanted by Hydra."

"But in the case of Nick Fury's murder, I could freely enter and exit S.H.I.E.L.D., and even sit in Pierce's office to be questioned by him."

"I wasn't a criminal to S.H.I.E.L.D. at that time!"

"This means that Nick Fury's death happened before I stole the scepter!"

"In other words, it happened before the action to destroy the Insight Project! And in that action, Bucky, as the Winter Soldier, stopped us."

"So, at that time, Bucky was still the Winter Soldier."

The logic wasn't too complicated, so Captain America explained it to everyone, and they all understood immediately.

"So, option D can also be eliminated. The answer to this question is clear!" Thor said with a smile.

To be honest, this question was actually relatively simple.

"Sam Wilson, who isn't a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, is a veteran, and possesses all the abilities Captain America needs. There's no question about this one," Hawkeye Barton nodded as well.

"So, the Captain was first wanted by Pierce, and then, he was wanted by Pierce again?" Dr. Banner couldn't help but mutter.

This feels a little weird, doesn't it?

"Director Fury faked his death for unavoidable reasons, which led to Captain being wanted."

"But Director Fury will definitely regain his identity and return to S.H.I.E.L.D. Later, at that time, Captain should also have returned to S.H.I.E.L.D."

Black Widow explained to Dr. Banner.

The older folks answering the questions didn't have any objections to this. The development of the situation should indeed be like this.

After Nick Fury faked his death, he resumed his identity as the director of S.H.I.E.L.D. Until later, during the "Wakanda" incident, he turned to dust and vanished.

Everyone also clarified some of the storylines before and after through this question.

"This question is about me, so I'll answer it." Captain America said to everyone at this time.

Everyone naturally had no objections.

"I choose B, Falcon, Sam Wilson!" Captain America immediately stated his answer on the big screen.

[Correct answer!]

As expected, the answer was correct.

[Congratulations to the answerer Steve Rogers for receiving a reward: a Batmobile of any version!]

Following the system's prompt, a Batmobile, incredibly stylish and with a super cool design, immediately appeared in front of Captain America.

Judging by the look of that car, it was exactly the same as the Batmobile from Nolan's Batman trilogy, the same style as the Batman cape reward Captain America had received last time.

"Cool! This thing looks really cool!" Thor couldn't help but exclaim, his eyes shining.

He loved the vehicle the moment he saw it.

"Impractical," Tony Stark commented.

To be honest, the Batmobile's performance was quite good. Besides the weapons it was equipped with, the most important thing was that it could navigate very complex road conditions.

In the original movie, Batman drove the Batmobile on rooftops without any problems.

Roadblocks that would stop ordinary vehicles were completely ineffective against the Batmobile.

In addition, the Batmobile could "split" into a more lightweight and flexible motorcycle, which could meet more complex situations and combat needs.

It could play an important role in some operations.

But in the eyes of a tech genius like Tony Stark, the Batmobile wasn't anything special. Tony Stark didn't even have any interest in studying it.

He could create a vehicle far more advanced in mere seconds if he wanted to.

"First the Batman cape, and now the Batmobile. Captain America has practically become the Batman of New York City," Black Widow couldn't help but say with a laugh.

"I like this vehicle. It's really not bad!" Captain America also nodded in satisfaction.

[Answer Complete, Now Playing Answer Analysis!]

With this prompt, new images began to appear on the big screen.

Thump, thump, thump! Dawn was breaking.

In the dim light, a man was running along a bridge.

Although only a side view was shown, those who had seen Sam Wilson before recognized that the man was indeed Sam Wilson.

The scene immediately cut to a new location.

Inside, Sam Wilson, having just finished his morning run, was catching his breath and reaching for a sports drink in the fridge.

Before he could drink it, there was a knock at the door.

Sam Wilson hesitated briefly before opening the door. Two figures immediately came into view: Captain America and Black Widow, both looking disheveled.

And it wasn't just a figure of speech; their clothes and faces were covered in dust.

Clearly, they had been through a tough battle.

"Sorry to drop in like this, but we need a place to hide," Captain America said directly to Sam Wilson, cutting straight to the point.

"Everyone we know wants us dead!" Black Widow added.

This brief exchange confirmed everyone's earlier suspicions: Captain America was likely being hunted by S.H.I.E.L.D. at this point.

"Not everyone!"

Sam Wilson said with a serious expression, then ushered Captain America and Black Widow inside.
