Ember mulled over the words as she watched the receding back of Riven Shantaville.
She didn't know him.
She had nothing on him.
But he came for her. And in that sense, it could be said that he had the upper hand in whatever relationship that existed between them.
It was evident he planned this for the longest time. The neglected illegitimate son who hid underneath the shadows, waiting patiently for others to make the kill, while he swooped in to steal the carcass.
And in patiently bidding his time, he took notice of her. Then he decided to make her his pawn.
Fine. She would let him. But only on her own terms. Afterall, she had a thing for the game of chess as well.
