"I didn't save you, Ember. Never once did."
She blinked at him in exasperation. "What?"
"That night, you saved yourself. I happened to be passing by."
She swallowed. "But it was your hand that I took…" she argued vehemently stopping short when a dark chuckle escaped him like he was about tired of her.
It was so out of sorts. Especially when he was doing just that in the middle of what could be termed a serious conversation.
"Do you love living in denial that much? No matter how ignorant you pretend to be, surely you do not expect me to believe that you've no idea what happened to you that night before I reached you."
"I…."
"That night at the ball was not the first time you felt your powers was it?"
She swallowed, eyes frantically searching his for a sign that he would let her off a bit. But no such sign was waiting for her. Just stone cold hardness.
