Chapter 9 - 09. The Kiss

The next morning, Macy made sure to finish in time because she didn't want the same thing to repeat itself. By seven thirty, she had finished her dressing and was waiting in the living room. She wasn't one to eat too early in the morning so she settled for a cup of coffee.

"You ready?" Liam asked as he joined her.

"Yeah. You?"

"Yup. Shall we? I was thinking we could stop by a cafe for a quick bite?"

"Ooh…actually, I kinda have other plans."

"What?"

Macy had promised Ajax that she would go to work with him and she didn't think it was necessary to tell Liam since he probably didn't even want to drive her.

"After you abandoned me yesterday, Ajax brought me home and he already promised to pick me up this morning." She briefly explained.

"I didn't abandon you, okay?" Liam had been looking for Macy after they closed but one of the other staff said she had gone home, and so he left. He even felt disappointed that she didn't bother to wait for him.

"Either way, you don't have to wait for me anymore. I know how much you like to be early."

"How much I like to be early? Why did you say that like it's a bad thing?"

"I didn't mean–" the ringing of her phone interrupted her. "Excuse me," she answered the phone and only said okay before she hung up. "Ajax is here, sorry Liam but I have to go."

Liam had a displeased expression on his face as he watched Macy hurry out to meet him. Why did she seem so eager to leave him for another guy?

And why wasn't she paying any attention to him again?

★★★

Liam hardly saw Macy all morning. She was his COO but for some reason, she didn't stay by his side.

"Mr Sinclair?"

"Hmm?" He didn't realize that he had zoned out until his secretary tapped him. "Oh uh what were you talking about?"

"Your signature is needed sir. These are the files for the Benson project, and we can't begin without your approval."

"Alright thanks. You can leave it on the desk, I'll go through it and get it back to you later."

"Very well sir."

"What about Macy?"

"Macy?" She looked confused.

He remembered that they addressed each other by their last names so he corrected himself. "Uh Miss Henderson? My COO?"

"Right, my apologies sir. There was an external meeting with our sister company and she left with Mr Palmer."

Ajax again!

"Thank you. Tell her to see me the second she returns."

"Of course sir."

It had only been a day since they resumed, why was she getting too attached to him?

Liam's father had already told him about Ajax, he was the son of his friend and his employment at their company was only temporary. Once his father was convinced that he had gotten used to the business world, he would retire and take over the company.

Did Macy know that as well?

Could that be the reason she was trying to get closer to him? Surely she wasn't planning on leaving his company, or was she?

What was she planning?

There were too many questions flying around in his head and Liam didn't have an answer to a single one. He slammed his fist on the table, he hated the way he felt frustrated.

Hopefully he was going to get his answer once she returned.

For a whole week, Liam had barely seen Macy and whenever he asked, she was always with Ajax. Even anytime they were at home, if she didn't go out with her boyfriend, she would be on the phone with Ajax.

Before, Macy was always all over him, always wanting to be around him but it was different now.

Unable to hold back any longer, he called the reception. "Tell Macy Henderson to come up to my office now."

Just a few minutes later, she knocked on the door and he gave her permission to enter. "Hi, you said you wanted to see me?"

"Macy– Miss Henderson– we're at work now, I'd like us to address each other professionally." He said in a dull tone.

"Oh…okay, but there's nobody here so I think I can still call you Liam. Right?"

"It's better we practice so we can get used to it quickly. Anyway that's not why I asked you to come here."

"Okay, so what is it?" He raised a brow at her and Macy rolled her eyes. "What do you need, sir?"

"Lunch break is in an hour, let's eat together. We can stay here or if you like, we can go to a nearby restaurant. I actually know a good place somewhere around that–"

"Um…I'm really sorry but, can we do this some other time?"

Liam blinked once. Twice.

"Did you just reject me?" He asked calmly but his expression was hard.

"I'm sorry, really I am. It's just that Ajax said he already made reservations at a sushi place, and it would be rude for me to cancel now."

"That same dude that's always dropping you home? What the hell is going on between you two? Didn't you say you have a boyfriend? How come this one is always around you?" Noticing that he sounded too aggressive, he added in a calm voice. "Why are you two always together?"

"We went to the same highschool and I guess it's just nice to have someone I know around."

"Someone you know?" Liam frowned at her statement. What about him? Wasn't he someone she knew?

He felt disappointed and almost…hurt? At her rejection.

"You may go."

"Really, I'm sorry–"

"Just go."

"You asked to see me?"

Liam stared at Macy, he still couldn't understand the reason behind her sudden distance. Was she really not attracted to him any more?

"Is…something wrong?" She asked when he remained quiet.

Liam got up from his seat and walked over to her, he pulled her hand so she was on her feet as well. "I think that question should be directed to you, don't you?" He traced his fingertips along her arm and Macy shuddered at the touch. "What's going on Macy?" He raised her hand to his lips and kissed her fingers softly.

"W-what are you doing?" She asked with suddenly trembling voice.

"Isn't it obvious?" He held her waist and urged her to move closer to him. Putting her hair behind her ear, he placed soft kisses on her earlobe and neck. He smiled as he felt Macy's hands move up around his neck. So she still had feelings for him.

He looked into her eyes, feeling satisfied as he saw her glowing with lust. He took her lips softly and leisurely, teasing and taunting her with his kiss. His hands went lower from her waist to her round butt and she let out a soft moan at the contact. He teased her lips with the tip of his tongue and Macy welcomed him eagerly, allowing his tongue to slip into the sweet darkness of her mouth.

Liam's intentions had been to tease Macy and just turn her down but as he deepened the kiss, Liam was already at the verge of losing himself.

"Hmm..." He tightened his hold on her, thrusting his tongue deeper into her and Macy's moans grew louder, driving him close to the edge each time.

They were forced to let go of each other when they heard a knock at the door.

Liam was already hard and his groins ached with need as he watched Macy. His heart was pounding like he had never been with a woman before and it took all his self control to keep himself from taking her into his arms again.

The knocking resumed and this time, a feminine voice spoke up. "Liam, are you busy?"

He seemed to know who it was because he had a weird look on his face. "Come in, it's open."

When Macy saw the lady enter the office, she felt a tinge of jealousy.

The lady was putting on a tight dress that hugged her body firmly. She wasn't too curvy but she was beautiful and slender. She was also Liam's girlfriend.

"Who's this?" She asked, eyeing Macy like she was a thief or something.

"None of your business." Liam replied harshly. "Macy, you can go now. We'll talk some other time."

Just like that?

After they just shared an intimate moment like that, he was discarding her like nothing had happened.

"What? Is there something you want to say?" He asked, looking at her plainly.

"No, nothing sir." She frowned and walked out of the office.
