Chapter 883: Wash Off the Glue, Kaiba, It's Pointless
"Hyper Burst Stream!"
Accompanying Kaiba's spirited Attack Declaration, his beloved (Neo Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon) unleashed its attack upon the Monsters on the Mysterious Person's Field, with (Eldlich the Golden Lord) bearing the brunt of it.
Up until this point in the Duel, Kaiba had pretty much figured out that although the Mysterious Person's Deck was stuffed with numerous Trap Cards, the core of the Deck was that Golden Lich. A series of (Golden Land) and (Golden Land Foreverlasting) Spell/Trap Cards all activated around the (Eldlich) Monsters.
Even though he activated (Neo Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon)'s Triple Attack ability, intending to destroy all of the opponent's Monsters on the Field in one go, Kaiba still chose to prioritize eliminating (Eldlich the Golden Lord) above all else.
The three-headed dragon's dragon's breath struck the Golden Lich. Its pure gold armor, more for show than use, was instantly melted away under the dragon's breath, and the immortal Lich was thus destroyed and sent to the Graveyard.
However, as it was destroyed, (Eldlich the Golden Lord) let out a chilling, inscrutable laugh while looking at Kaiba and (Neo Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon).
Ignoring the actions of the Monster he had already destroyed, Kaiba once again chose the next Attack Target for (Neo Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon).
"Next, it's the (Conquistador of the Golden Land)!"
"Then, it's the (Guardian of the Golden Land)!"
Two more attacks followed, and the (Conquistador of the Golden Land), which had conquered nothing, and the (Guardian of the Golden Land), which had protected nothing, also followed in the footsteps of (Eldlich the Golden Lord), being destroyed and sent to the Graveyard.
Although (Neo Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon)'s consecutive attack ended, because all three attack targets were in Defense Position, the Mysterious Person did not take even a single point of damage from (Neo Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon)'s attacks, and there was still a (Necroworld Banshee) in Defense Position on their Field.
However, Kaiba's Field also still had a (White Spirit Dragon) that had not yet attacked.
Pointing at the female-looking Zombie-Type Monster on the Mysterious Person's Field, Kaiba coldly ordered: "Crush that last Monster, (White Spirit Dragon)! Burst Stream of Destruction!"
(Necroworld Banshee), with a mere 200 DEF, was no match for (White Spirit Dragon)'s 2500 ATK; it too was instantly destroyed and sent to the Graveyard. At this point, both of Kaiba's Monsters on the Field had completed their attacks, and the Mysterious Person's cards on the Field were completely cleared, not a single one remaining.
Watching the (White Spirit Dragon) descend from the sky and return to Kaiba's Field after its attack, the Mysterious Person, despite having no cards left on their own Field, remained calm and spoke, "(Neo Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon)'s Triple Attack ability is indeed powerful, but don't you often say that phrase?"
"Powerful cards often come with great risks. At the end of the Battle Phase after using the Triple Attack effect, (Neo Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon) will be destroyed and sent to the Graveyard by its own effect, won't it? In that case, your Field will only be left with one (White Spirit Dragon) and one Set Card."
Pausing, the Mysterious Person habitually spread their hands and said, "Conversely, on my Field, although there are no cards remaining, you actively sent to the Graveyard my (Golden Land) cards on the Field, which helped me greatly. You haven't forgotten the effects these cards can use when they are in the Graveyard during my previous Turn, have you, Seto Kaiba?"
"(Eldlich the Golden Lord) was indeed destroyed and sent to the Graveyard, but during my Turn, I will use its own effect to revive it. And the Set Cards that were swept away will also return. Clearing my cards from the Field for a moment is completely meaningless. Muda muda muda, it's all muda!"
As they spoke, the Mysterious Person seemed to get hyped up, "You say you'll end the Duel this Turn? That's totally muda! You have no Monsters left on your Field to attack with. The victor isn't you, it's me!"
Hearing their words, Hayato shook his head: "By common reasoning, that's true, but a true duelist can never be measured by conventional logic, especially Seto."
"Look, he even hand-fused his Blue-Eyes. Forget me, even if Joey were here, he'd be able to guess that guy definitely has *that* card remaining in his hand." As he spoke, Hayato glanced at Kaiba. "Using (Mind Crush) on him would be a sure hit every time, because he always glues those few cards together."
"Hmph, stop slandering me over there, Hayato. I'm not deaf, I can hear what you're saying."
Kaiba glared at Hayato, drew a card from his hand, and with Hayato's "See? What did I tell you?" expression, he inserted it into the Spell & Trap Zone, activating it during the Battle Phase. "As a side effect of its full-power attack, (Neo Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon) will indeed be sent to the Graveyard at the end of this Battle Phase."
"However, I won't let Blue-Eyes leave my side for the Graveyard so easily. My formula for victory is far more perfect than you imagine!"
"Quick-Play Spell Card, (De-Fusion)!"
"De-Fuse (Neo Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon) and return it to the Extra Deck," Kaiba removed the (Neo Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon) card from his Duel Disk, and skillfully retrieved three cards from his Graveyard. "From my Graveyard, Special Summon the three (Blue-Eyes White Dragon)s that were Fusion Material for (Neo Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon)'s Fusion Summon!"
"Return to my side, Blue-Eyes!"
(Neo Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon)'s form, having completed its Triple Attack, dissipated, transforming into three beams of light that landed on Kaiba's Field. Three colossal white dragons emerged from the light, guarding Kaiba's side and baring their fangs menacingly at the Mysterious Person.
[(Blue-Eyes White Dragon)] [ATK3000] x3
"Just now, what did you say you were, the victor?" Kaiba sneered at the silent Mysterious Person, then waved his hand and ordered, "It's still my Battle Phase, and the Special Summoned (Blue-Eyes White Dragon)s can also attack. Let's see how you block a combined 9000 points of attack!"
"First (Blue-Eyes White Dragon), attack!"
Although it seemed like a rather outdated (Polymerization) plus (De-Fusion) combo, sometimes the simpler it was, the more practical it became. Even the same combo used by different people had different effects. For instance, some people could only use this combo to Tribute Summon monsters, while Kaiba could unleash a total of seven attacks in one Turn.
The first (Blue-Eyes White Dragon) opened its mouth, and after a brief convergence, spat out a white light. A dragon's breath streaked towards the Mysterious Person. With their Field completely empty at this moment, they had no cards they could use to—
"Activate the effect of this Monster in my Graveyard!"
Just as Kaiba had that thought, he was interrupted by the Mysterious Person's voice. Chaining to (Blue-Eyes White Dragon)'s Attack Declaration, the Mysterious Person was seen drawing a card from their Graveyard.
"(Bone Pig Toss), during the Battle Step when a monster battles, this card in my Graveyard can be activated by banishing it from the game." The Mysterious Person put the (Bone Pig Toss) card into their pocket and continued, "Negate that monster's attack. This effect can also be activated during the opponent's Turn."
On their Field, a small pig made only of bones appeared out of thin air. Its body was refilled with flesh as if by a phantom, turning into a rather cute black pig. (Blue-Eyes White Dragon)'s attack was blocked by it before it could hit the Mysterious Person. (Bone Pig Toss) was instantly annihilated, and the Mysterious Person's Life Points did not take a single point of damage.
Kaiba frowned: "When did you send that card to the Graveyard?"
The Mysterious Person didn't answer Kaiba but glanced in Hayato's direction. Kaiba, noticing their action, understood: "Was it a card sent to the Graveyard from the top of the Deck by (Infernoid Tierra)'s effect earlier? Tsk, it certainly had a considerable impact for a moment, but the subsequent negative effects aren't small either, Hayato."
"I couldn't help it, I didn't want to. Besides, milling isn't something you can always do accurately," Hayato spread his hands, looking innocent. "Some people can mill three cards and send (Heavy-Armed Cylinder) and (Rainbow Kuriboh) to the Graveyard, while others can only mill three (Pot of Greed)s."
As Hayato's words fell, Hayato, who had been observing the Mysterious Person, noticed that their body seemed to stiffen for a moment.
"Hmph!" Kaiba gave a somewhat tsundere snort, then ignored Hayato and looked back at the Mysterious Person. "If I'm not mistaken, besides negating the opponent's monster's attack, (Bone Pig Toss) can also negate your own monster's attack, right?"
"So, when that third-rate duelist attacked with (Buster Blader) and triggered (Magic Cylinder) just now, if you had used (Bone Pig Toss), you should have been able to save him from taking damage, right?"
Although he asked the opponent, Kaiba seemed to have just spoken on a whim, without actually wanting an answer from them. He continued, "Nevertheless, it doesn't matter. I don't care about the trivial relationships among you conniving rats. All I care about is this duel."
"(Bone Pig Toss)'s effect can only be used once per duel. That means even if you'd previously milled more (Bone Pig Toss)es to the Graveyard, it would be useless. Attack again, Blue-Eyes!"
The second (Blue-Eyes White Dragon) let out its pre-prepared dragon's breath as Kaiba waved his hand forward. This time, the Mysterious Person indeed had no Hand Traps or Graveyard effects that could be activated in response to the Attack Declaration. (Blue-Eyes White Dragon)'s dragon's breath, unhindered by any weakening effect, directly struck the Mysterious Person.
"Boom!"
"Urgh!"
A staggering 3000 points of battle damage, amplified by the surrounding Shadow Game, yet the Mysterious Person merely let out a grunt, enduring such a powerful attack.
However, their Life Points plummeted uncontrollably.
[?: 4000 → 1000LP]
Seeing that the opponent's Life Points had indeed fallen, Kaiba's lips curved slightly. Without waiting for the smoke kicked up by (Blue-Eyes White Dragon)'s attack on the opponent's Field to clear, he waved his hand again, about to launch another attack. But just then, Hayato suddenly spoke, "Hold on a moment, Seto. See clearly what's on the opponent's Field before you act."
"Hm?" Hayato's words puzzled Kaiba, but he did pause for a moment. The brief dust cloud slowly dispersed in that instant, allowing Kaiba to clearly see two monsters that had appeared on the Mysterious Person's Field at some unknown point.
[Emissary of the Underworld - Guss] [Level 7 / DARK Attribute]
[Fiend-Type / Effect Monster]
[2700 / 2500]
[Emissary of the Underworld - Lain] [Level 7 / LIGHT Attribute]
[Fairy-Type / Token]
[3000 / 3000]
"When no cards exist on my Field, and I take damage from a card my opponent controls, I can Special Summon (Emissary of the Underworld - Guss) from my hand." From their ragged breathing, Kaiba realized that the Mysterious Person was not feeling well after taking (Blue-Eyes White Dragon)'s attack. "Although (Card of Demise) almost gave you the power to defeat me, I also benefited greatly from (Card of Demise)'s presence."
"If the damage I take is battle damage, when (Emissary of the Underworld - Guss) is successfully Special Summoned, I can then Special Summon one (Emissary of the Underworld - Lain) Token to my Field. Its ATK/DEF become the value of that battle damage received!"
"Tsk, a monster card activated from the hand after taking damage," Kaiba said, annoyed, as he saw the two monsters Special Summoned by the Mysterious Person in Defense Position. After Summoning (Emissary of the Underworld - Guss), the Mysterious Person still opted for caution by not putting it in Attack Position, turning Kaiba's earlier statement of "ending the duel this Turn" into an unachievable pipe dream.
"Third attack of (Blue-Eyes White Dragon): Destroy that (Emissary of the Underworld - Guss)."
Ordering (Blue-Eyes White Dragon) to attack again, and witnessing (Emissary of the Underworld - Guss) be destroyed and sent to the Graveyard, Kaiba glanced at the cards in his hand. Although greatly displeased, he could only reluctantly say, "My Battle Phase ends. Then, during Main Phase 2, I will Set one card and end my Turn."
[Kaiba: 4000LP, Hand 0]
[(Blue-Eyes White Dragon)] [ATK3000] x3
[(White Spirit Dragon)] [ATK2500]
[(Blue-Eyes Jet Dragon)] [Set Card] x2
As Kaiba declared his end his Turn, the Mysterious Person spoke again: "At the instant your Turn ends, the effect of (Necroworld Banshee) in my Graveyard activates! I can banish this monster from my Field or Graveyard, and choose one (Zombie World) from my hand or Deck to activate. This effect can also be used during the opponent's Turn!"
Quickly searching their Deck, the Mysterious Person took a card from their Deck and placed it into their Duel Disk's Field Zone. "I activate the Field Spell Card, (Zombie World)!"
(Emissary of the Underworld - Guss), a card that supposedly changed duelists' attack habits. Those who have played Yu-Gi-Oh for a long time and experienced the Guss era probably have the habit of first testing with weaker monsters when their ace monster can't finish the opponent in a single attack, to prevent the opponent from Special Summoning a Guss from their hand and trading their ace monster for a Token.
