But once they entered the submarine, Kahn realized things weren't exactly as he imagined — or rather, they weren't as complicated as he imagined.
"Using Waterbending to submerge the vessel and move underwater — I must say, that's a genius idea!"
Teo's father excitedly demonstrated the structure while praising Sokka's creativity.
Sokka, suddenly flustered by the compliment, waved his hand modestly.
"No, no, I just had the idea… you were the one who actually made it real."
"Don't be so modest, young man."
Then Teo's father sighed.
"But that one problem still isn't solved. The oxygen supply inside the submarine is limited, so it can't stay underwater for long. It has to resurface periodically to replenish air."
"If we could solve the oxygen issue, this would completely change naval warfare!"
Teo's father slipped into full inventor mode, imagining the future, while Kahn had already pieced together the basic principles.
Although the exterior looked like the submarines he remembered from his previous life, this one was essentially just a steel shell.
There was no internal power system — movement relied entirely on Waterbenders pushing it with Waterbending.
Human-powered submarine.
Of course, considering they built this in a hurry to deal with the Fire Nation, it was already impressive.
If Teo's father had more time, he could probably create a real submarine. And Sokka, the one who came up with the concept, really was a natural genius.
Frankly, this was perfectly normal for their world.
Even the Fire Nation's all-terrain tanks worked the same way — advanced in structure but still reliant on Firebenders inside to attack.
Technology and bending were always intertwined here.
After all, bending was ridiculously practical.
If not for the shortage of manpower caused by constant war, the Fire Nation probably wouldn't have invested so heavily in machinery.
Cruel as it sounded, war really was the greatest catalyst for technological development — no matter the world.
The submarine wasn't the only secret weapon.
Teo's father continued leading them down the line, and Kahn soon found the next invention — a bizarre fusion of science and bending:
A torpedo missile.
Well… "torpedo missile."
In reality, it was just a bomb. To use it, a Waterbender had to encase it in ice and then guide it underwater with Waterbending — even steering it mid-attack.
A bit ridiculous, but effective.
Last was a massive, long, pill-bug-shaped tank made of steel and rock. Like the others, it had no internal power — Earthbenders had to push it manually.
But due to its size and heavy armor, ordinary arrows and basic Firebending couldn't do much against it.
It would serve as a powerful breakthrough vehicle during amphibious assaults.
Rudimentary or not, this entire arsenal — built in such a short time while maximizing the strengths of their benders — showed how brilliant both Sokka and Teo's father truly were.
"This is absolutely amazing!"
"Incredible!"
"Sokka, you're a genius!"
"Sokka the Creator!"
Aang, Toph, and the others showered him with praise, while Kahn also applauded. Sokka looked both proud and deeply embarrassed.
With these secret weapons, the success rate of their entire plan had skyrocketed.
After the tour, they stepped outside and saw Hakkoda, Pari, and General Hao standing together, discussing who would lead the upcoming operation.
The three of them were commanders of their respective units.
But if they all acted independently during the mission, it would be chaos — possibly even suicide. They needed a unified commander.
Hakkoda was the first to step back.
His force was smaller and weaker than the fifty-man elite units from the North and Earth Kingdom. If he took command, morale might suffer.
But to his surprise, Pari and General Hao also refused to compete for the position.
Pari crossed his arms.
"Although my soldiers are elites, we honestly lack real experience fighting the Fire Nation. I'll pass."
General Hao nodded.
"My troops and I aren't skilled in naval operations. I believe this mission is best led by you."
"Well then," Hakkoda said with a nod, not bothering with modesty, "I'll accept. Let's begin the strategy meeting."
He turned and called out:
"Sokka! Help me out!"
"Coming!"
Sokka hurried over with a stack of blueprints, pinning them to a large display board before standing behind Hakkoda.
Hakkoda raised his voice.
"We are all gathered here for the same purpose — to defeat the Fire Lord and restore peace! I salute the courage and determination of everyone standing here today."
"Now, I will explain the overall battle plan."
"The first phase is already underway. The main Earth Kingdom forces will launch a frontal counterattack against the Fire Nation to draw their attention — and they've succeeded."
"The second phase is our operation, divided into three steps."
"Step one: Under the cover of the main army, we will advance from the flank, bypass the Fire Nation fleet, and enter the Fire Nation Capital Bay.
Estimated arrival time is 5 a.m. three days from now. The solar eclipse will occur at noon that same day."
Although the Fire Nation's main forces had been pulled toward the frontlines by Iroh's army, they still had to remain careful.
The goal was stealth — avoiding conflict whenever possible. If discovered, they were to eliminate the enemy instantly and prevent word from spreading.
"Step two: Break through the bay's blockade and enter inland waters. The key obstacle is Dragon Gate — Azula's Dragon Gate — which functions as the Fire Nation's main defensive net. Our secret weapons will be used here. Sokka will explain this later."
Dragon Gate was a massive blockade created by an emperor two generations ago, designed to prevent foreign fleets from entering.
It was the Fire Nation's first and most important line of naval defense.
Their principle remained the same: ideally avoid combat, move quickly, and use the submarine to pass covertly beneath the blockade.
"Step three: The landing operation. The goal is to escort the Avatar Team into the Royal Palace district and hold out until they defeat the Fire Lord."
Once they made landfall, it would be a full assault — not to wipe out the enemy, but to break through at all costs.
They had to deliver the Avatar Team into the palace before noon.
The "Avatar Team" in this plan also included Ty Lee and Mai, whose knowledge of the palace layout was absolutely invaluable.
"That concludes our mission briefing."
"Next, Sokka will explain the weapons and vehicles we will use."
As Hakkoda spoke, the atmosphere grew heavier. Everyone understood that this might be their final battle.
Kahn inhaled slowly, a familiar tension settling over him.
It felt like the night before their operation against Ozai's forces.
The final battle had begun.
