Chapter 111 - Chapter 110: Escape

Outside Kahn's bedroom, a squad of masked archers had silently taken position, bows drawn, arrows already nocked.

With a hand signal from their captain, the air trembled.

The next instant—

Swish! Swish! Swish!

Countless arrows shot out like a torrential rainstorm, piercing the wooden walls and shredding the entire house!

Under the captain's command, they fired three consecutive volleys without pause, only stopping when the structure looked ready to collapse.

Even the strongest Earthbender was still flesh and blood. Against such a merciless barrage, even the Avatar would be helpless.

Or so the captain thought.

Bang!

"Ah!" ×2

A figure burst through the window like lightning. Before anyone could fully register the motion, Kahn landed right in front of them.

Flames gathered at his palms, and with two explosive strikes, he sent two soldiers flying, tearing open a gap in the formation.

He didn't even pause. After breaking through the line, he stamped the ground, vaulted over the courtyard wall, and vanished into the night.

From the moment he crashed through the window to the moment he escaped, it was all one fluid motion.

Only after he disappeared did the soldiers react.

"Crap! He escaped!"

The captain's expression shifted drastically. He raised his arm and roared:

"After him! Chase!"

I almost died…

Recalling the split-second chaos earlier, Kahn felt a cold sweat drip down his back, a mix of relief, shame, and lingering fear.

He was currently in the most pathetic state since transmigrating.

The ambush came out of nowhere.

Completely defenseless, he barely sensed the killing intent in time to roll under the bed. Even then, he still suffered scrapes on his arms and thighs while dodging.

Thankfully, the injuries were minor.

But what truly added insult to injury—

He liked to sleep wearing only boxers. And with the sudden attack, he had no time to put on anything else.

Meaning: he was now sprinting across the rooftops of the Fire Nation capital… in boxers.

A grown man running half-naked in the night—any onlooker would think he was either insane or indecent.

Although, given Kahn's physique and handsome features, certain people might find the sight very pleasing.

Unfortunately for Kahn, he wasn't trying to be anyone's midnight fantasy.

Luckily, it was late night and most people were asleep. If anyone had seen him like this… he would have been socially dead.

I'll remember this grudge!

Grinding his teeth, he forced himself to calm down. He continued running while analyzing the situation.

This ambush was clearly premeditated.

The attackers were well-trained and knew enough about him to choose arrows—something Firebenders couldn't counter easily in tight quarters.

And the only person capable of mobilizing such forces…

Ozai.

But why?

Was their plan exposed?

Did something happen to Iroh?

Was his connection with Azula discovered?

Was it Zu Kou? Did someone betray them?

Too many possibilities, and not a single answer.

Right now, he needed to escape first. Everything else could wait.

"Kahn! They're catching up!"

"What do we do? Hit back?"

"They dare bully a god like this! Outrageous!"

The voices of East, South, West, and North exploded in his ears, the four minor deities jolted awake and furious.

Kahn glanced back—they were right. The pursuers were rapidly leaping across rooftops, their speed not inferior to his at all.

Definitely Ozai's elites.

"Don't act. We retreat first."

He stopped the deities immediately.

They were a hidden trump card. Exposing them now would cause unpredictable trouble.

And if he chose to fight—yes, he could kill all of them—but the commotion would be immense.

Better to run.

The attackers didn't make it easy. Several archers drew again, firing while sprinting—skills far beyond ordinary soldiers.

Arrows sliced through the moonlight like falling stars.

Yet Kahn didn't even turn his head. With subtle steps and agile movements, he dodged every lethal shot.

Annoyed but unfazed, the archers drew again—this time spreading out their shots to cut off every possible evasion path.

Troublesome.

Kahn managed to dodge a few, then spun around and unleashed arcs of flame to intercept the rest.

But that slight delay was enough.

Two elites switched bows for swords, accelerated, and flanked him from both sides, blades flashing coldly as they lunged for his vitals.

"Close combat?"

Before they could reach him—

FOOOOM!

Two pillars of fire erupted point-blank, engulfing both attackers. Screams rang out as their charred bodies dropped from the rooftop.

Kahn exhaled. "You two good? Don't—"

Another volley of arrows cut him off.

He kept running.

After witnessing their comrades burn alive, the elites no longer dared approach, instead maintaining pressure with relentless arrow fire to drain his stamina.

They weren't in a rush.

The city gates were locked at night. Even the strongest warrior couldn't climb the massive walls easily.

Kahn had nowhere to escape.

As long as they pushed him to exhaustion, his death was inevitable.

Yet Kahn continued running straight toward the city wall.

The soldiers exchanged glances, silently agreeing to maintain distance and stay alert.

But Kahn finally stopped.

Right before the towering wall.

The elites slowed, fanning out, preparing to surround him again.

"Whoosh—"

Ignoring them, Kahn took a deep breath, raised his arms, and let flames explode from his body.

A raging sea of fire engulfed him.

"Careful!"

Everyone tensed. Desperate cornered attacks were the most dangerous.

But the flames did not explode outward.

Instead, they surged, twisted, and slowly condensed into a shape…

Wings.

A long neck.

A divine posture.

A phoenix made of pure flame.

Under stunned gazes, the blazing phoenix flapped its wings and shot upward at breathtaking speed.

It soared over the city wall in one fluid motion and vanished into the night.

The wall guards stared blankly.

Did they actually see that?

Was it a dream?

"…Continue the pursuit," the captain finally muttered, face pale.

This was… enormous trouble.

Crack!

The wine glass shattered against the floor. Flames reflected on Ozai's furious face, contorted with rage.

"KAHN!!!"
