After finalizing their next steps, Kahn left Azula's chamber and immediately departed for the Eastern Air Temple aboard Nike, giving Ozai no opportunity to discover him.
Zuko and the others would have to be informed by Azula later.
Azula cleaned up all traces of Kahn's arrival in the palace.
Not long after, she was urgently summoned by Ozai—who dramatically revealed the "shocking news" of Kahn's betrayal.
According to him, Kahn had been secretly colluding with the traitor Iroh, acting as an undercover agent beside them with the intent to harm their father-and-daughter duo.
Ozai even produced several "letters of correspondence," claiming they were written by Kahn and sent to Iroh.
The handwriting was pretty accurate. The letters sounded calm, thoughtful, and carried no out-of-place insults toward Ozai or Azula.
Instead, they neatly recorded day-to-day information about the palace—making them even more believable.
From the writing, one could infer that Kahn wasn't acting impulsively—he had supposedly been a spy from the very beginning.
Azula nearly laughed.
She had to admit—Ozai was, in his own twisted way, talented. His skill at manipulating human emotions and leveraging schemes was terrifying.
If she didn't possess information far beyond what Ozai could imagine, even she might've been fooled.
But now?
His performance only made her feel amused.
She knew Kahn and Iroh were in contact.
She knew both of them possessed Spiritbending and communicated in the Spirit World.
They would never need letters. That was laughably redundant.
And even if real letters were required, she doubted Kahn would entrust anything to random couriers—he had the White Lotus for that.
But Ozai knew none of this.
He didn't know the truth about Iroh and Kahn.
He didn't know Spiritbending existed.
He didn't know about the White Lotus.
He didn't know Zuko was secretly in the city.
He didn't know she—his own daughter—was the true undercover agent beside him.
The sheer information gap between them made Ozai's "grand maneuver" seem ridiculous.
Azula's respect toward him even lessened. His ignorance made him… dull.
She still put on a convincing performance for him.
After satisfying his expectations, she left without hesitation.
Their plan was progressing steadily. But Azula intended to prepare far more thoroughly.
The real game would only begin after Ozai's fall.
Ozai himself?
In her eyes, he was already a walking corpse—unworthy of attention.
Eastern Air Temple
After leaving the Fire Nation, Kahn arrived at the Eastern Air Temple and soon met with Iroh again in the Spirit World. He reported everything that had happened.
Just as Kahn expected, Iroh agreed that Kahn's disappearance actually worked to their advantage.
More importantly—Iroh needed Kahn's help.
Iroh had already invited several Master-level experts, but most of them were stationed far from the Fire Nation mainland. The naval blockade made entry nearly impossible.
That was where Kahn and Nike came in.
Iroh hoped Kahn could retrieve those Masters at the proper time.
"No problem," Kahn agreed immediately.
These were Master-level reinforcements. Helping them was the easiest decision ever.
With that settled, Kahn suddenly found himself completely free until the next quarter.
So he resumed training with Guru Pathik, enjoying the peace and quiet of the Eastern Air Temple.
Kahn trained Spiritbending, played with East, South, West, and North, chatted with Iroh, and for the first time in years… he relaxed.
There were no crowds, no hectic city life, none of his usual friends.
But there were also no schemes, no conspiracies, no constant danger.
A younger version of Kahn would've called this place a boring wasteland.
Now… he found it strangely perfect.
Drinking morning dew, sleeping under the evening glow, lying on the grass watching clouds drift by—it all felt like a life he never knew he needed.
Ever since Ozai usurped the throne and Ursa disappeared, he had been running through a labyrinth of secrets and danger.
Even with Azula, Iroh, and Zuko accompanying him, Ozai's shadow always loomed over them.
But here, for the first time, he tasted ease.
For a fleeting moment, Kahn even thought.
"Living like Guru Pathik—hidden away from all worldly chaos—might not be a bad life."
Of course, he knew it wasn't possible.
Not now.
"Maybe one day," Kahn said, grinning at Guru Pathik. "Maybe I'll follow in your footsteps and become a recluse."
Guru Pathik chuckled softly.
"Don't bind yourself so early. Your life is still long, child."
"That's true…"
Considering everything he had lived through—including his previous life—Kahn often forgot he was still only thirteen or fourteen.
It was absurd.
Plotting to overthrow an emperor at his age.
But then again—Azula was even more absurd.
Kahn sighed inwardly.
Obstacles
As peaceful days passed, his Spiritbending training encountered a bottleneck.
And this time, he knew exactly why.
"Your heart is not calm," Guru Pathik said gently.
Kahn didn't deny it.
He looked toward the distant Fire Nation, eyes narrowing.
"The time is coming."
Soon, Face Mother would travel through Forget-Worry Valley again.
When that happened, Ursa could regain her memories and appearance—and their plan would officially begin.
Expose Ozai's crimes.
Overthrow him.
Execute him.
Just the thought made Kahn's heart beat faster—both nervous and excited.
He had waited too long.
And he knew…
When everything ended, it would mark the true beginning of his life.
