A pane of glass, no larger than a window frame, slipped from the scaffold of an unfinished storefront above. It twisted once in the air before falling straight toward a girl standing by the curb.
The girl couldn't have been more than eighteen, wearing a white blouse and a long black school uniform skirt. She looked up, her eyes wide but it wasn't fear that Gu Yuze saw in her face, it was resignation.
The glass never touched her.
A gust of wind swept down the street. The pane rather struck the current and smashed against the road a few feet away, scattering into dull, harmless fragments.
The girl gasped, stepping away. Mu Ziya stood a few steps away, her sleeve still faintly lifted from the motion of her hand. The air around her soon settled down.
