Chapter 338 - Chapter 339: The “Encouragement Master” with the ‘Yin Tang’

Losing Money to Become a Tycoon: Starting with Games

Chapter 339: The "Encouragement Master" with the 'Yin Tang'

After leaving the small shop by the west gate, Pei Qian walked with extreme caution, constantly paying attention to whether there were stones underfoot or whether his shoelaces had come loose again.

Tang Yishu followed behind him with small steps, her head lowered.

She wasn't sure what kind of work she was being taken to do, but she didn't dare ask too many questions.

They happened to pass by a milk tea shop. Pei Qian casually bought one iced milk tea and one hot milk tea, then handed the hot one to Tang Yishu.

Tang Yishu felt a little embarrassed, but under Pei Qian's insistence, she still took it and held it in her hands to warm them.

"Do you have any hobbies or interests?"

"Like… playing an instrument? Singing? Drawing?"

Pei Qian asked tentatively, but Tang Yishu silently shook her head, rejecting all of the options.

Thinking about it, Pei Qian figured that made sense. With Tang Yishu's family background, being able to stay in school was already pretty good, where would she get the money to cultivate those kinds of hobbies?

But that raised another problem… what kind of job should he arrange for her?

Pei Qian had recruited Tang Yishu purely with the intention of using her as a bad-luck charm. Since she had such a special aura-like effect, the simplest solution was to place her right in the middle of the office and let her passively alter the office's "fortune" over time.

There was no need for her to be responsible for any concrete work.

After all, Tang Yishu was smart and a top student. If she really started working seriously, she'd probably pick things up very quickly. He absolutely did not want to be stabbed in the back by another honor student.

Still, he had to give her something to do, at least on the surface.

"How about… you help water the plants at the company?" Pei Qian suggested.

Judging by how she had nearly drowned the pothos in Zhang Wei's office before, wiping out all of Tengda's potted plants shouldn't be a problem, right?

Then he could buy a whole new batch and spend more money—perfect.

Tang Yishu hurriedly waved her hands. "No, senior, I really can't take care of plants."

"Ever since I was little, anything I raise—animals or plants—ends up mysteriously getting sick. Except… except cats."

Cats?

Pei Qian thought about it for a moment. Cats would work too!

As it so happened, there was a pet hospital nearby.

"Come with me."

Holding her milk tea, Tang Yishu once again followed behind Pei Qian as they entered the pet hospital not far away.

The clinic was small, with only three consultation rooms and one operating room, mainly serving pet owners from the surrounding neighborhoods. There were also often stray cats in the area; students from the nearby school or idle neighborhood aunties would frequently bring these strays in for treatment or sterilization.

Many of the stray cats would be adopted, but some went unwanted and could only continue living at the pet hospital.

Pei Qian walked up to the front desk and asked, "Have there been any stray cats brought in recently?"

The young female veterinarian on duty replied, "Yes. Someone brought in a black cat earlier. It just finished its vaccinations and was neutered not long ago, and it had a bath a few days ago as well."

"Are you thinking of adopting it, sir? The cat is pretty cute, but it's already grown a bit, so it's not as adorable as a kitten."

Pei Qian nodded. "Let me take a look."

The veterinarian led Pei Qian and Tang Yishu inside. In a cage in the corner was a black cat with short fur—its entire body was pitch black, except for its four paws, which were white.

Although the cat's eyes were wide open, its pupils were perfectly hidden, making it hard to tell at a glance whether it was asleep or awake.

The cat looked to be at least half a year old—no longer a tiny kitten—and not as irresistibly cute as a baby, which was probably one of the reasons no one had been willing to adopt it yet.

The conditions at the pet hospital were limited. Most of the time, the cat could only be kept in a cage for fear that it might run away if let out. The food it ate was also not very high-quality cat food, so it didn't look particularly plump.

Pei Qian asked, "Is it male or female?"

The female veterinarian replied, "Male. Neutered."

Pei Qian: "…That's fine."

He turned to look at Tang Yishu. "Do you like it?"

Tang Yishu nodded. "As long as it's a cat, I—I like it."

Pei Qian turned back to the veterinarian. "Alright then, I'll take this cat. Please help me prepare a carrier, cat food, canned food, and a litter box as well."

These things could have been ordered online, but there wasn't enough time. Pei Qian couldn't be bothered to go through the trouble, so he bought everything directly at the pet hospital. More expensive or not, it didn't matter.

The veterinarian didn't ask many questions and immediately had two male doctors go prepare everything.

She could tell that Pei Qian didn't look like someone short on money, so the cat's future living conditions wouldn't be bad. And Tang Yishu looked like the kind-hearted type of girl, so there was no worry about the cat being mistreated.

Soon, everything was ready.

The veterinarian put the cat into the carrier. It was extremely well-behaved, not moving at all, only its pair of shiny black eyes constantly staring at Tang Yishu.

After settling the bill, Pei Qian slung the cat carrier across his chest, carried the litter box and a small bag of litter in his left hand, and held the cat food in his right hand as he walked out of the pet hospital.

Tang Yishu helped carry the canned cat food along with the food and water bowls.

The cat kept staring at Tang Yishu the entire time.

Pei Qian was speechless. "Hey, I'm the one who redeemed you, alright?!"

The company's business car was parked near a nearby restaurant. When Xiao Sun saw President Pei carrying a cat carrier and holding so many things in both hands, he was momentarily stunned and quickly got out of the car to help.

After stuffing everything into the trunk, Pei Qian placed the cat carrier on the back seat and gestured for Tang Yishu to sit in the back, while he himself sat in the front passenger seat.

"Back to the company."

Inside the car, Tang Yishu looked a bit uneasy. From time to time, she glanced at the cat in the carrier beside her. One person and one cat stared at each other through the mesh of the carrier.

Soon, they arrived at the company.

After parking in the underground garage, Xiao Sun carried the cat food, litter box, and various miscellaneous items upstairs to the company.

Pei Qian, meanwhile, walked ahead with Tang Yishu.

Tang Yishu followed closely with quick little steps and asked softly, "Senior, I—I still don't know what kind of job I'm supposed to be doing?"

Pei Qian thought for a moment. "Hmm… an encouragement master…"

Tang Yishu was a little surprised. "Huh? An en-encouragement master?"

"But, senior, I'm not very good at talking, and I'm not good at encouraging people either. What should I do…"

Pei Qian looked at her. "Listen to me finish. Your position is encouragement master…'s litter-scooper."

He pointed at the cat and added, "It's the real encouragement master."

"I'll reserve a separate workstation for you at the company. When you don't have classes, you can come over and be responsible for scooping its litter, feeding it canned food, taking it to the vet if needed, things like that."

"As for pay, since it's part-time, I can only offer you 3,000 yuan per month for now."

"After you're done scooping and feeding, if there's nothing else to do, you can just sit there reading or browsing the internet. Come and go as you please."

Tang Yishu was startled. "Th-that's too much."

Pei Qian shook his head. "That's just how salaries are at our company. Come with me."

The two of them took the elevator up to Tengda Network Technology Co., Ltd.

When they stepped out of the elevator, Pei Qian quietly let out a sigh of relief.

Along the way, there were no incidents like a tire blowout, brake failure, or the elevator losing power.

It seemed that the aura effect attached to Tang Yishu was still relatively limited, without any truly terrifying destructive power.

Thinking about it, that made sense. If Tang Yishu really had the kind of constitution where accidents happened wherever she went, there was no way she could have grown up safely to this point.

At most, she just had a bit of minor bad luck, and it could slightly affect the luck of the people around her.

But this actually made Pei Qian even more satisfied.

Because what he needed right now was precisely this kind of minor bad luck!

If it were the kind of major misfortune—like brakes failing while riding in a car, or an airplane engine catching fire—that would be far too terrifying. Pei Qian would be worried about the safety of himself and his employees.

But this kind of small-scale bad luck could, without endangering anyone's safety, maximally reverse the unfavorable situation of President Pei constantly making money!

Pei Qian knew very well that many of his successes actually stemmed from sheer coincidence.

For example, the initial explosion in popularity of Lonely Desert Road happened simply because the game was discovered by Qiao Laoshi.

What if his luck had been just a little worse, and Qiao Laoshi hadn't discovered it?

Wouldn't that have saved him a whole lot of trouble?!

Luck was a tricky thing. Sometimes the difference between success and failure came down to the tiniest margin. If one small link in the chain didn't occur, the domino effect might never happen at all—and his grand plan to lose money might finally be carried out smoothly.

So this level of bad luck could be said to be just right.

After entering the company, Xiao Sun set down the pile of items he was carrying.

Pei Qian opened the cat carrier and let the little fellow out.

When Li Yada saw the cat, she immediately dropped what she was doing and rushed over.

"Oh? President Pei, where did this kitten come from?"

"It's so cute!"

Other employees also gathered around, instantly surrounding the little black cat.

The black kitten walked around on its four snow-white paws, not afraid of people at all, sniffing everywhere it went.

Pei Qian smiled. "Everyone's been working too hard lately, so I specially hired an encouragement master. From now on, this little guy will be everyone's encouragement master. When work gets tiring, you can pet the cat to relieve some stress."

"And this is Tang Yishu. She's also a new member of the company and will mainly be responsible for taking care of our encouragement master."

Tang Yishu lowered her head. "Hello, everyone."

Hearing that President Pei had even assigned a dedicated litter-scooper to the cat, everyone was a bit shocked. After all, scooping litter and feeding a cat didn't really require a full-time person, anyone could casually do it when taking a break from work.

But they soon realized that President Pei's words were probably half-joking, and began to guess that this shy-looking girl's real duties were likely something else entirely.

Li Yada asked, "President Pei, what's this little guy's name?"

Only then did Pei Qian realize that he hadn't named it yet.

After thinking for a couple of seconds, Pei Qian said, "Let's call it 'Yin Tang.'"

Li Yada: "Huh?"

At that moment, "Yin Tang" happened to patrol over to Bao Xu's workstation. It turned its head toward Pei Qian, gave him a look of disdain, and meowed twice in protest.

"See? It really likes the name."

Ignoring Yin Tang's protest, Pei Qian's gaze quickly swept across the entire office area, and he soon pinpointed the very center of the workspace.

Pei Qian pondered that if Tang Yishu were seated in this spot, her aura effect should be able to radiate perfectly across the whole company, right?
