Rachel felt a lump in her throat.
Back then, when they first met, he had been gentle and considerate, never once judging her for her past.
She truly thought he was a good person.
But in reality... he was cunning, strategic, cold-hearted, and even ruthless. He could never be considered good.
"So tell me," he said, testing her, "if I really decide to get George involved, what are you going to do about it?"
She lifted her almond-shaped eyes to meet his, her gaze sharp with determination. "Don't you dare touch George. If you do, I'll never forgive you."
Right now, the only thing she could use as leverage was herself.
His expression darkened, his tone dipping lower. "Just for this George, you're being this protective? You can't deny that you care about him."
Care? Rachel asked herself silently. Did she really have any special feelings for George?
Or was it just that his calm, ordinary presence made her wish for his safety?
