The System
The night before everything changed—
We saw it clearly for the first time.
Not just flashes.
Not just glimpses.
The system had… settled.
Panels hovered in our vision.
Sharp.
Precise.
Unavoidable.
I focused.
And it responded.

No instructions.
No guidance.
Just—
Information.
Kol was the first to react.
"Well that's annoying."
I glanced at him.
"It shows the ability…" he continued, frustrated, "but not how to unlock the rest."
Of course it didn't.
It wasn't here to guide us.
It was here to measure us.
Rebekah tilted her head, reading her own.
"It says I have abilities… but I don't know how to use them."
"You will," I said calmly.
Elijah's voice was quieter.
"It tells us what we are… but not what we will become."
Exactly.
And that was the point.
Freya frowned slightly.
"This isn't natural."
"No," I said.
"It isn't."
But I didn't explain further.
Because I already understood it better than they did.
This wasn't a gift.
It was a mirror.
And mirrors didn't lie.
The Day Before
I found Aurora in the garden.
Moonlight caught her hair—
Turning it into fire.
For a moment—
I didn't speak.
I memorized her.
Human.
Fragile.
Unaware of how close she stood to eternity.
"You've been quiet," she said, glancing back. "That usually means something dangerous is coming."
A faint smile.
"Something like that."
I stepped closer.
And this time—
I didn't hold back.
I told her everything.
What we were.
What we had become.
Vampires.
Witches.
Wolves.
Immortal.
She didn't flinch.
Didn't step back.
Didn't fear me.
"I knew," she said softly.
That surprised me.
"Not what," she added. "But… something."
She stepped closer.
"There's something in you, Niklaus."
A pause.
"Dangerous, yes."
Her hand brushed mine.
"But beautiful too."
Then—
She said it.
"I don't fear you."
A breath.
"I want to stand beside you."
Her gaze locked onto mine.
Unwavering.
"Whatever you are… I want to be it too."
I didn't answer.
Not yet.
But I knew—
She would ask again.
The Departure
The next evening—
I gathered them all.
Freya.
Henrik.
Elijah.
Kol.
Rebekah.
Aurora stood among them.
Already knowing.
Lucien watched from the edge of the room.
Always watching.
"I am leaving," I said.
Silence shattered.
Rebekah: "Nik—no—"
Kol: "Where the hell—"
Elijah: "Brother—"
Aurora cut through them all.
"I knew."
Every eye turned to her.
She didn't look away.
"You told me," she said. "What you are."
A step forward.
"And I told you… I would stand beside you."
Then—
"Before you go…"
Her voice didn't waver.
"Make me like you."
Silence.
Heavy.
Rebekah stepped forward.
"Aurora—"
I raised a hand.
"Not me."
I looked at my sister.
"Rebekah."
Aurora turned to her.
"Please."
Rebekah hesitated.
Then exhaled.
"…Very well."
The Turning
Rebekah stepped closer.
Aurora didn't move.
Didn't hesitate.
Good.
Rebekah bit into her wrist—
Blood flowing freely.
Aurora drank.
Not greedily.
Not wildly.
Deliberately.
Then—
Rebekah guided her down.
Aurora's body stilled.
Quiet.
Gone.
For a moment—
Nothing happened.
Then—
She woke.
A sharp inhale.
Eyes snapping open—
Bright.
Alive.
Hungry.
Different.
She looked around—
Confused.
Overwhelmed.
Then—
The hunger hit.
Rebekah steadied her.
"It's alright… just follow it."
A human was brought forward.
Aurora hesitated.
Just for a second.
Then—
Instinct took over.
She drank.
And when it was done—
She stood.
Still.
Stronger.
Her eyes met mine.
And she smiled.
Not human anymore.
Better.
Lucien's Choice
Lucien had watched everything.
Frozen.
Shaking.
"You," I said.
He flinched.
"Me, my lord?"
"You saw."
A step closer.
"And you stayed."
A pause.
"Loyalty deserves reward."
His knees hit the ground.
"I am yours."
Of course he was.
I gave him my blood.
Then ended his life.
When he rose—
He fed.
And stood again.
Changed.
"Remember what you are," I said.
"And who you serve."
The Choice
I turned to my siblings.
Then—
To Henrik.
"You come with me."
Rebekah stepped forward instantly.
"No—"
"He needs this," I said calmly.
Henrik met my gaze.
"I want to go."
Good.
"Then it's settled."
Farewell
Aurora stepped closer.
"So I wait?"
I brushed her hair back gently.
"For now."
Her eyes burned.
"I'll be here."
"I know."
Rebekah held Henrik tightly.
Kol looked annoyed—but said nothing.
Elijah nodded once.
"Bring him back."
"I will."
Into the North
We left that night.
Aurora watched from above.
Lucien stood below.
My family—
Behind me.
My future—
Ahead.
Henrik walked beside me, quiet at first.
Then—
"Do you think they'll accept us?" he asked.
I smirked.
"They'll learn to."
A pause.
"Or they'll fall trying."
And with that—
We disappeared into the dark.
Two brothers.
Immortal.
Unbound.
Heading toward the truth of what we really are.
