Chapter 26 - 26: Prelude III: Future Troubles

Luke looked through the notifications in his inbox as the Doctor set down baby Ruby next to the church door where the priest would come momentarily to collect her. He read that both his arrival in 2004 and helping the Doctor save baby Ruby were completed through the System, but the last objective was going to wait until the Doctor returned to his own time.

"So then, Doctor," Luke began to say as he stared right at the ancient Time Lord. "Should I spoil what you're just about to find out?"

The Doctor let out a soft sigh as he turned to look at the younger version of his friend. Even the same look in his eyes as if he contained knowledge that others would go mad over.

"She's fine, right?" The Doctor muttered with a strained hope.

Luke smiled warmly. "She'll be right where you left her. She's a clever girl and worth traveling with in the TARDIS."

He smiled back happily. He then ran off back to his TARDIS, but before entering the TARDIS, he saw Ruby's mother. This whole thing was seen by Luke who knew that this meant Ruby's mother, who they'd much later found out was Louise Allison Miller, would become an existence more powerful than Time Lords and gods. The only problem was that Luke Stryker, who was the literal embodient of Anima in this universe, seemed able to override this weight of significance.

To put this into perspective, if it is said that Sutekh couldn't see Ruby's mother and didn't know her identity, Luke doesn't seem to have that restriction. He wasn't sure if it was because he already knew the truth, but he wasn't going to let on to either Sutekh or older Ruby that he knew who her mother was.

With the sound of the TARDIS fading out of reality drawing Luke's attention back into reality, something began to happen to his vision.

He saw faint outlines of the Doctor, Ruby, Chidozie, Kate, and all of the people within the Time Window as if they were right there with him. Faintly, he could sense traces of time Anima as if Ruby's memory was so raw that it unconsciously drew upon the very essence of temporal Anima. He knew that this was the scene of Ruby attempting to make out the identity of her mother using the VHS tape and what was going to happen next would ignite the reveal of Sutekh's return to the Doctor.

"Well, that was a head-banger, wasn't it?" Luke said with a smile to the viewers through the window. "How she just skipped past you guys and you couldn't make her out?"

That seemed to catch the Doctor and Ruby's attention. Luke sighed audibly as he looked right at the Doctor with a raised eyebrow. "Come on, Doc. You and I both know that things are not as they seemed since we just finished fighting goblins. You already knew about my powers at this point, so this shouldn't surprise you."

Luke then stood for a moment before saying "This Time Window isn't too strong. It'd falter if you overload it too much, Doctor, but I want you all to pay attention. You'll only see me this one time before it gets burnt out of the VHS, but remember this. It was the wrong anagram, Doctor. Whatever you and UNIT saw with Susan Triad and thought, it is wrong."

Then he turned to look at Ruby Sunday. Her tear-streaked face was enough to give her a knowing wise man smile despite it looking weird on a five year old. "I'll give you two bits of advice Ruby. One is that you need to remember 2046. That year will be important later."

"As for the other?" Luke said with a knowing smile. "Well, that is a little more complicated. Keep in mind Harriet's name. It will be very important."

Then he turned towards the obscurus-like shadow cloud that he knew represented Sutekh's cloak. He raised his right hand towards it and snapped his fingers towards it.

"I don't like that, boy," Luke said sternly as a pure golden strand of Anima flew straight toward it like a missile. "I know your name, boy. Your mystery and attempt to hide from the Doctor shall not work on me. I'll end your Empire before I let you use that on my creations."

"For I gave myself a title far beyond your station. I am the Lord of Anima."

After placing the curse upon Sutekh through the VHS tape, he wiped all traces of himself from the area. He knew that UNIT would have already had a file of his in the Archive by that point of Fifteen's view, but he did not want to have the current UNIT forces discover his existence before he was ready.

Within two seconds, all traces of his had been wiped from the area and he returned to 2005. He returned a couple of seconds after his past version left to go to 2004 so that his life was left uninterrupted by his travel through time.

Then, as he stepped back in his bedroom, the System decided to show the one notification he was expecting to receive.

[Congratulations, Host! Quest Complete!]

[All your rewards have now been distributed.]

[You have levelled up! You are now Level 7.]

[All runes and physical items you have been rewarded are in your Inventory.]

He smiled happily as these rewards meant he could solve some emergencies with using runestones instead of direct Anima application. Luke initially thought the Doctor, in his fifteenth incarnation, had some manner of adaptation to Anima as he had been to Gielinor before many times.

However, one thing he just couldn't shake at this point was a sense that he needed to be somewhere on New Years' Day 2007. He didn't know what it meant, but that made him want to check the System to see why he got that feeling.

What he found shocked him.

[New Years' Day 2007: Fifteen and Belinda Chandra attempt to locate a way back to May 24th, 2025; First interaction with the individual Conrad Clark. Start of the Lucky Day canon event.]
