Chapter 172 - Chapter 172: Hancock’s Past

Hancock cried for a long time.

All Kaito knew was that she eventually cried herself to sleep in his arms, completely drained.

Once asleep, she curled up in his embrace like a kitten. Seeing her tear-streaked face, Kaito couldn't bring himself to wake her, so he simply held her and drifted off to sleep with her in his arms.

...

The next morning, Hancock slowly woke up.

The first thing she saw was Kaito looking at her with a gentle smile.

That sight immediately filled her heart with warmth and sweetness. Then, suddenly, memories of the night before rushed back. She'd fallen asleep in Kaito's arms… while crying!

Did that mean she spent the entire night sleeping in his arms!?

The realization made her face turn red. Steam practically poured from her head. Kaito, seeing her flushed face, wondered if she was still unwell.

Though it wasn't the most comfortable sleeping position, it didn't really affect Kaito. His body had long since evolved toward the level of the Ōtsutsuki, so even if he went a full year without sleep, it wouldn't wear him down. On the contrary, having Hancock—this perfect pillow—in his arms had made his sleep even better than usual.

He reached out and gently tapped the tip of Hancock's nose.

"Awake now? How was your sleep last night?" he asked with a smile.

Hancock quickly pushed herself upright from his arms, placed her hands neatly on her knees, and knelt down in front of him.

"I slept very well! I'm sorry for troubling you!" she said earnestly.

At the moment, Hancock seemed the very image of a gentle, devoted wife—completely obedient and utterly charming.

Kaito got up from the bed, habitually rolled his neck a bit, then walked to the window. With a swipe of his hand, he drew back the curtains. Warm sunlight poured into the room, instantly bathing it in golden light.

Turning around, Kaito glanced at Hancock, still kneeling dazedly on the bed. A trace of admiration flickered in his eyes.

Bathed in the morning light, Hancock looked even more stunning. Her slightly dazed and bashful expression added a kind of soft allure. She was breathtaking.

No wonder she was called the most beautiful woman in the world—her face was the very definition of the ideal Eastern beauty. She was perfectly tailored to Kaito's tastes.

Noticing Kaito's gaze, Hancock fidgeted nervously with the corner of the blanket and murmured,

"Kaito… you must not have slept well last night. Would you like to rest a bit longer? I'll stay by your side the whole time."

Kaito shook his head with a warm smile.

"I slept great. It's you I'm worried about. You cried so much—did you have any nightmares?"

His words brought her back to the painful memories of her childhood.

"Would you… look down on me because of that?" she asked softly.

Kaito didn't respond right away.

Instead, he walked over and sat down by the bed, then gently brushed aside the messy strands of hair on her forehead.

"Don't overthink it. I know about your past. And don't worry—I won't let those people in Mary Geoise get away with what they've done."

As he spoke, a flash of violet light flickered in his Rinnegan. A cold, murderous intent surged from within.

If destroying Mary Geoise before was simply because it stood in the way of his path forward, now he had an entirely new reason:

To avenge his woman.

Whoever hurt someone close to him—no matter who it was—even the gods of the Ōtsutsuki themselves, he would drag them down from their thrones.

An icy pressure radiated from Kaito in that moment.

But Hancock didn't feel afraid. She felt warm—because what she saw was Kaito valuing her, standing up for her.

To her, he wasn't cold at all. He was the sun in her heart, warmer than the morning light.

Still, when she thought of how terrifying the people of Mary Geoise were, Hancock didn't want Kaito to face danger. She quickly grabbed his arm.

"Kaito, I won't dwell on the past anymore! I only want to stay by your side now!"

Kaito didn't say much in response. He simply asked,

"Do you remember the name of the Celestial Dragon who bought you back then?"

He wasn't planning to let the others go—but that one person… he intended to give them special treatment.

Hancock thought for a moment before answering in a quiet voice.

"She was the eldest daughter of the Charma family. I heard people around her call her Liza."

"Liza, huh? Got it. I'll remember that name."

Kaito nodded.

In his heart, he'd already sentenced her to death.

At the same time, he felt a bit relieved—he'd honestly been worried Hancock might mention Shalria. If it really had been that idiotic woman, even he wouldn't have known what to do about it.

Thankfully, it wasn't.

But the fact that the one who bought Hancock was a woman—that genuinely surprised him.

He had assumed some male Celestial Dragon had taken a fancy to Hancock's beauty. But in hindsight, this might've been for the better. At least she hadn't been subjected to that kind of abuse.

In truth, the woman had simply handed Hancock over to her palace attendants to be watched—and shortly after, when she was still a child, Hancock had been rescued by the fish-man Fisher Tiger.

(No matter what the original manga said, this is how it works in this story.)

Seeing Kaito deep in thought, Hancock grew uneasy again. She was still afraid he might look down on her.

But Kaito didn't stay silent for long.

When he snapped out of his thoughts, he turned to her and said gently,

"You don't need to worry about anything else. Just rest. Leave the rest to me."

Though his voice was calm and even, there was an unmistakable confidence in it—one that allowed no doubt.

Hancock's eyes immediately turned into two pink heart-shapes, clearly lost once again in her own romantic daydreams.

Kaito was already used to this kind of reaction.

He patted her shoulder, gently pushed her to lie down again, and pulled the blanket over her.

After that, he planned to go outside for a bit—but one look at Hancock's pleading, sorrowful eyes made him hesitate.

In the end, he gave up the idea and stayed by her side, chatting with her instead.

...

The two of them stayed like that until evening.

Hancock didn't sleep at all. Even when her two younger sisters came to deliver dinner, she was still wide awake.

She just couldn't bear to miss even a second spent with Kaito. To fall asleep would feel like wasting something infinitely precious.

On their second night on Amazon Lily, Kaito once again slept in the same bed as Hancock.

Only this time, something extra happened compared to the previous night.

...

The next morning, Kaito left the room, but Hancock remained inside—because he had strictly ordered her to rest.

After he left, Sandersonia and Marigold entered the room and were completely stunned by the sight of their sister.

Hancock's face was still tinged with a rosy blush, her whole demeanor radiating a relaxed, seductive charm.

The two of them had grown up beside her. They had long built up an immunity to their sister's beauty.

But now…

She looked even more beautiful than before.

It wasn't just her appearance. Her entire aura had changed.

Curious and baffled, they went to ask Elder Nyon about it.

After hearing their description, the elder let out an exaggerated gasp and then said with a knowing, mysterious smile,

"Your sister… has become a true woman now!"
