I. The Echo of Oblivion
Tree Cathedral once stood was now but a shadow of its former self. The ruins still bore witness to a city that had yet to truly break free. Though the streets were beginning to be rebuilt, the scars of what had happened remained visible in every corner. The very air seemed to be permeated by the Tree's presence , as if the city could not shake off the traces of its past.
Akihiko walked silently across the plaza, his footsteps echoing on the still-cracked ground. The wind began to blow more strongly, as if the city itself were breathing a new life after so long. But that feeling of a new beginning was overshadowed by the unease that continued to grow within him. The emptiness in his chest hadn't disappeared, and every time he touched the golden flower , he felt the Tree's presence returning to him, whispers filled with promises and warnings.
"I don't understand," Akihiko thought, gazing at the golden flower with a mixture of fascination and awe. "What the Tree represents… is greater than I imagined. There's something here, something that's not yet complete."
Beside him, Kaede followed the same path, watching Akihiko with a worried expression . The intensity with which Akihiko seemed connected to the shadows of the past was not something that could be ignored. She knew that, although it seemed the city was returning to normal , there was something in the air that didn't quite fit .
" Akihiko… " Kaede spoke softly, aware that her words might interrupt Akihiko's train of thought . "Something's not right. Not just with the city, but with you."
Akihiko glanced at her briefly, his expression unchanged as always, but his gaze was more thoughtful than usual.
" I don't know what's happening, Kaede," she said, her voice cold but with a slight tremor. "I know the city is changing, but I also know there's something beneath the surface we haven't seen. Not everything is as it seems."
II. The Awakening of the City
The wind intensified, carrying with it the echo of the Tree's shadows . Akihiko stopped abruptly, sensing something stirring in the air, something that hadn't been there before. It was as if the city itself were breathing , as if the roots of what had been the Tree still lay dormant within it.
In the background, the figures Sael had spoken of were beginning to emerge again , not from nowhere, but from the cracks in the structures that were beginning to rise. They weren't shadows , but rather projections of something deeper . Akihiko watched them, but there was no fear in his eyes. Only determination .
He knew the city couldn't free itself from what the Tree had been without confronting what it truly represented . The presence of those figures was a reminder that the Tree hadn't just been a physical force , but an idea , a concept that had been planted in Edenfall and continued to grow in the city's soul .
"Those echoes won't disappear so easily," Akihiko thought, as the ethereal figures began to take shape before him. "We can't run from what the Tree has left behind."
Suddenly, one of the figures approached, her presence heavy yet calm. A woman , dressed in clothes that seemed made of dim light , walked slowly toward them. She had no human features , but a presence that seemed to influence the very air .
" Akihiko Sora," the figure said, his voice soft but charged with an ancient energy . "It's not just the Tree that has touched your soul. It's what the Tree has left in the city. What you have awakened within yourself is not just a power. It's a connection to something greater."
Akihiko looked at her without fear, but also without understanding. What did she mean by that?
" Who are you?" he asked, with implacable calm, without giving in to the unease that was growing in his chest.
The woman's figure smiled, but it wasn't a friendly smile . It was a smile that seemed to know the future , that understood more than Akihiko was willing to admit.
" I am a memory, Akihiko. One of the many the Tree has left behind. But I am not the only one. And you, as its bearer, must understand what you have awakened."
III. The Game of Shadows
The woman, still motionless, seemed surrounded by vibrations that touched the air in a way that defied explanation. It was as if space itself were bending , as if reality itself were being manipulated by her mere presence.
" What the Tree has touched has not only altered the city," the woman continued, her voice echoing in Akihiko's mind like an ancient chant reaching him from the depths of his consciousness. "It has altered history itself. What is to come will not be resolved by force. Not even by the power you have awakened. It will be resolved by knowledge, by wisdom, by accepting what has been sown."
Kaede, though still incredulous, listened attentively to every word. She knew that what was happening here couldn't be understood through physical power alone . The Tree wasn't an ordinary enemy. It was a power that affected not only the body , but also the mind and soul of those near it.
" What should I do?" Akihiko asked, his voice firm despite the growing uncertainty he felt. "How can we stop this? How do we know what's awakening?"
The woman remained silent for a moment, her gaze empty, but also full of profound knowledge .
" It doesn't stop, Akihiko. The Tree isn't the end. It's only the awakening of the truth. What's to come doesn't stop, because you, as its bearer, are now part of something much greater."
The figure began to fade, but before disappearing completely, it left one last warning.
" The emptiness inside you is more than a memory, Akihiko. It's the beginning of transformation. What you must do is accept it, or you'll lose more than you can imagine."
IV. Choosing the Trip
Akihiko and Kaede stared at the spot where the figure had been standing. The wind continued to blow, but something in the air had shifted . The city's shadows now seemed denser, as if something invisible were beginning to stir .
"What we've done isn't finished," Akihiko thought, as he looked at Kaede. "The Tree isn't just a power that can be destroyed. It's something connected to the city. Something bigger is stirring. And we need to understand it."
Kaede nodded, though she didn't yet know what Akihiko meant. But at that moment, they both knew the path to the truth wouldn't be easy. The city was changing , but the real challenge was yet to come.
