I. The Torn Road
Akihiko and Kaede's caravan advanced through the desolate terrain surrounding the outskirts of Edenfall . As they ventured further north, the land grew increasingly inhospitable . The distortions of the void had already begun to tear at the landscape: shadows lengthened unnaturally , and trees twisted, growing erratically and deformed . Even the sky seemed altered, as if something invisible were unraveling the very fabric of reality .
Although the journey had been quick, the feeling that everything around them was disintegrating began to weigh heavily on them. Akihiko couldn't shake the feeling that the emptiness wasn't just affecting the outside world, but was also affecting him internally . Every time he closed his eyes, he felt as if the emptiness was beginning to consume his own memories , blurring the lines between the present and the past.
Beside him, Kaede walked in silence, her gaze fixed on the horizon. The weight of what lay ahead was evident on her face. Edenfall was still far away, and what lay before her seemed like an unknown frontier , a territory marked by distortion .
" Akihiko..." Kaede said, breaking the silence. "Do you really think we'll make it in time? The void is spreading faster than we thought."
Akihiko took a deep breath, looking at the distortions around him. The world seemed more and more like a place where reality no longer had any foundation .
" We will," he replied with determination . "If we reach the source, we can stop it. The void cannot continue to expand like this."
But despite his words, Akihiko wasn't sure. He knew the source wouldn't be easy to find, let alone stop .
II. The City Linked to the Void
The journey continued for weeks , and the void only expanded around them. Upon reaching the northern borders , Akihiko and Kaede encountered a devastated area , a desolate territory that had once been a small town known for its vibrant commerce . Now, everything was shrouded in a thick fog —not ordinary fog, but a cloud emanating from fractures in the void .
The city had been swallowed by the void , with entire houses vanished and structures covered by a layer of crumbling ruins . In the center of what had been a main square , a powerful emptiness expanded from deep within the earth , creating a vortex that distorted light and sound .
Akihiko and Kaede approached the edge of the vortex, feeling the pressure of the vacuum stronger than ever. Something at the center seemed to be vibrating , as if subjected to an incomprehensible force .
Suddenly, a distant noise cut through the air. Akihiko tensed, his hand reaching for his katana.
Something was coming.
III. The Silent Enemy
Before they could prepare, a figure emerged from the shadows, moving with inhuman grace . At first, it appeared human , but as it drew closer, it became clear that it was not. Its eyes glowed with an eerie light, and its skin seemed translucent , as if it were a distorted reflection of the world around it. It was more a manifestation of emptiness than a tangible being.
The figure spoke with a voice that seemed to come from within the distortion itself .
— "Do you think you can stop the inevitable?" The voice was soft, but laden with a disquieting presence . "Emptiness is not something that can be eradicated. It is what remains when everything else falls apart. You have already released it. You are already part of it."
Kaede took a step forward, her defiant gaze fixed on the figure.
" Who are you?" Kaede asked, her voice firm. "Why do you align yourself with the void?"
The figure smiled, a smile that seemed more like a grimace of despair than a display of malice .
— "I am what remains after the destruction. I am the shadow of a world that no longer exists. And you, Akihiko Sora, are the one who unleashed this. You wonder why everything is falling apart? Because emptiness is what was always there. They've simply opened the door."
Akihiko frowned , his mind beginning to make the connections. Was the void inevitable? Had they simply been catalysts for something that was already destined to happen?
The figure drew closer, and the air became even denser .
— "This isn't just a phenomenon affecting you. It's a disease that has begun to consume the entire world. And now, with every step you take, you're accelerating the march toward the end."
Akihiko showed no fear, but the feeling of inevitability began to weigh on him.
" We're not here to run away," he replied with determination , although he knew that confronting that figure would require much more than just strength .
IV. The Challenge of Emptiness
Before they could react, the figure raised its hand, and immediately, the void around them began to shift even further. Shadows seemed to take shape, enveloping Akihiko and Kaede. It was a struggle against distortion itself , with reality itself changing around them.
The figure dispelled the distortions surrounding Akihiko with a simple gesture, but the emptiness remained. It was a battle of endurance , not just physical combat, but willpower . The figure seemed able to manipulate the void at will, transforming the air into reasons to surrender .
Akihiko gripped the hilt of his katana, ready to fight, but the figure raised his hand once more.
" It's useless, Akihiko. The fight isn't against me. It's against what you've already unleashed."
With a final flick of its hand , the figure vanished, leaving behind only the echo of emptiness , which now further invaded the landscape. The distortion remained, but the vortex at the center of the plaza began to calm , as if the figure itself were the catalyst for a new phase in the expansion of the void.
Akihiko turned towards Kaede, his face now filled with determination .
" We have to get to the source. The sooner we get there, the more we can control," he said, his voice with renewed firmness .
