The hotel room door shut behind them with a muted click, sealing them off from the noisy world outside.
Blazar tossed her bag onto the small chair by the corner and bent to untie her shoes, fingers working quickly at the laces.
Her gown swayed around her ankles as she moved with restless energy, as though her body was still vibrating from everything that had happened in the square.
Kaelric leaned against the wall near the door, arms crossed over his chest, eyes locked on her like she was the only thing in existence.
"You don't have to stand there like a guard," she snapped, shoving a boot into the bag with more force than necessary. "I'm not going to run."
"I don't trust you," he said flatly.
Blazar spun on him, hair swaying across her face. "Then why drag me back at all? If you don't trust me, why bother?"
His icy eyes locked on hers, unblinking, intense. "Because I can't let you go."
