Chapter 84: Road to the Fire
Tuesday, May 11 2010
After several days of hard training, Crawley were ready for the final stretch. The players were in good shape, and the support from the town had given everyone extra confidence.
With three days left before the FA Cup final, Niels planned a lighter session for May 11. The aim was to keep the players sharp without tiring them out. The following day, the squad would travel to London.
Chelsea would be waiting at Wembley. They had a strong team, with Carlo Ancelotti in charge and players such as Didier Drogba and John Terry leading the way. Crawley knew they would have to play at their best.
The morning of May 11 was cool and bright. Dew covered the Broadfield pitch, and the smell of freshly cut grass came from the field. Inside the training ground, the players grabbed coffee before getting ready.
At 10:00 a.m., Niels called everyone together.
