Chapter 92: The Triumph at Wembley
Saturday, May 15, 2010
The final whistle went, and for a moment, the Crawley players didn't move.
Then their fans erupted.
"Crawley! Crawley!"
Red scarves filled the corner of Wembley as supporters hugged, jumped and shouted in disbelief.
Crawley Town had beaten Chelsea 2–1 in the FA Cup final.
They had actually done it.
The players rushed toward each other. Some dropped to the grass, while others ran toward the supporters.
Max was quickly lifted onto Thiago's shoulders. He was exhausted, covered in sweat, and struggling to take it all in.
He looked into the crowd and spotted a young boy wearing a Crawley scarf and shouting his name.
Max pointed toward him and smiled.
The boy jumped up and down, celebrating with both fists in the air.
A few yards away, Luka and Jamal hugged each other. Both were laughing, and neither seemed to care that they were crying.
Niels stood near the touchline, almost unable to believe what he was seeing.
