Chapter 258: Niu Tian and Tai Tan Who Were Stabbed by Wang Dong'er
The more muscular of the two middle-aged men, wearing red clothes, was quite enthusiastic. Upon seeing Wang Dong'er, he set down the tea bowl in his hand, greeted her, and motioned for her to sit opposite him.
Clearly, this burly man in fiery red robes was Tai Tan.
His warmth and concern for Wang Dong'er seemed completely genuine. But when it came to Lin Qinghan, he acted as if he didn't exist—he didn't even look at him, let alone invite him to sit.
"Second Dad, how can you ignore Qinghan? Didn't you and Big Dad ask me to bring him home?"
Wang Dong'er quickly noticed Tai Tan's cold attitude and became visibly displeased. Her tone held a trace of complaint as she took Lin Qinghan's hand and led him to sit across from Tai Tan.
"Qinghan, let me introduce you. The one who just spoke is my second father—his name is Tai Tan, and he's the deputy leader of the Clear Sky Sect. The other is my eldest father, Niu Tian—he's the leader of the Clear Sky Sect."
Wang Dong'er introduced them plainly in front of both men. Lin Qinghan's mouth twitched slightly.
As expected, Wang Dong'er's personality had definitely been shaped by her upbringing in the Clear Sky Sect. She still had the same bold temper she did when they first met. Because Tai Tan didn't like Lin Qinghan, she simply confronted him outright.
"Hello, two uncles."
Lin Qinghan greeted Tai Tan and Niu Tian casually. Even though a confrontation might be coming, from what he knew in the original story, Tai Tan and Niu Tian genuinely regarded Wang Dong'er as their adoptive daughter.
But their strength wasn't enough. In the end, they were always pawns under the Sea God Tang San.
Tai Tan, struck by Wang Dong'er's words, looked deflated and discouraged.
After all, he truly treated her like his own daughter. Now this felt like the classic moment where a daughter brings home a rebellious boyfriend, the parents disapprove, and the daughter says: "You don't know him at all."
"Are you Dong'er's boyfriend?"
Niu Tian, who had been drinking tea silently at the side, finally spoke. His composure was clearly greater than Tai Tan's, and he was able to have a calm conversation even now.
Judging by their behavior, it was obvious that neither man believed Lin Qinghan was just a fling. Wang Dong'er had likely already told them about his other girlfriends—otherwise, Niu Tian wouldn't be this calm.
"Yes, I'm Lin Qinghan—Dong'er's boyfriend."
Lin Qinghan took a sip of the tea Wang Dong'er had just poured him and replied.
But Lin Qinghan's tone and posture were anything but deferential. His actions—especially the casual tea-drinking—felt downright arrogant.
Niu Tian's brow twitched as he looked at this completely unruffled young man.
Although he had heard from Wang Dong'er that Lin Qinghan was extraordinary, seeing it in person was something else entirely.
First, there was Lin Qinghan's face—unnaturally handsome. His appearance had always been excellent, and after being refined by the celestial herbs, he was now arguably peerless in looks.
But what shocked Niu Tian even more was the fact that he couldn't sense any aura from Lin Qinghan.
This was extremely unusual. Niu Tian was now a genuine divine official. While he couldn't unleash his full strength for now, he still had his divine sense.
But when his divine sense touched Lin Qinghan, it found… nothing.
It was like Lin Qinghan wasn't even there—as if he were made of air.
After a moment of shock, Niu Tian consoled himself. Based on what Wang Dong'er had said, Lin Qinghan likely had god-level strength and had possibly inherited some divine artifact.
If that was the case, then it made sense why his presence couldn't be detected—Lin Qinghan likely carried a high-level god item.
"When did you and Dong'er get together?"
Realizing Lin Qinghan's strength wasn't something he could shake with pressure, Niu Tian changed tactics and asked about their relationship.
But Lin Qinghan didn't answer right away. Instead, he turned to look at Wang Dong'er.
Clearly, since Niu Tian was asking, it meant Wang Dong'er hadn't told them the full truth. Not wanting to accidentally reveal anything she wished to keep hidden, he asked her directly.
"Can I say?"
"It's better not to…"
Wang Dong'er blushed instinctively. Her thoughts drifted back to the day she revealed her true identity to Lin Qinghan—and the night that followed.
Even though soul masters on the Douluo Continent matured early—by eleven or twelve, they were already physically close to the age of 18 or 19 from Lin Qinghan's past life—she had still been too young to be with him back then.
So, she didn't want her adoptive fathers to know about that.
"Uncle Niu Tian, you heard her. It's Dong'er who doesn't want me to say. I'm just listening to her."
Lin Qinghan spread his hands, explaining innocently. But in Niu Tian's eyes, that only made it worse—he was clearly hiding behind Wang Dong'er.
Could it be that this kid had been with her for quite some time already?
That was exactly what both Niu Tian and Tai Tan now suspected. They had asked Wang Dong'er about this before but never received a straight answer.
She would usually give a vague, perfunctory reply. But now she wasn't even pretending—she outright refused to say anything.
It was a crushing blow.
Their sweet little girl, their precious cotton-padded jacket, was not only keeping secrets but had also brought home a cocky boyfriend—and was standing up for him in front of them.
Now Niu Tian understood why Tai Tan had looked so defeated earlier. The feeling of being betrayed by your own daughter… it stung.
"Dong'er, go back to your room first. Tai Tan and I want to speak with Lin Qinghan alone."
Niu Tian could tell that as long as Wang Dong'er stayed, they'd never be able to assert themselves. So he decided to send her away.
It would be easier to test Lin Qinghan this way—and at least they wouldn't have to get stabbed emotionally every time she opened her mouth.
