During the media session ahead of the match, Klopp sat before a row of microphones, looking relaxed enough despite the questions waiting for him.
He had spent years dealing with the press, and he knew when a question was leading somewhere more complicated than its wording suggested.
The first few that came through concerned his departure.
"Jürgen, you've spoken about needing a break," one journalist began.
"Have you given any more thought to what comes next after Liverpool?"
The German sat, contemplating the question for just a few seconds before smiling.
"Not really. I think people want me to have a plan already. They want to know where I'm going, what I'm doing, whether I'm going to watch football or go somewhere else."
He shrugged.
"Honestly, I want to rest. Properly rest. I want to wake up without thinking about the next training session, the next opponent, the next press conference and dealing with the lot of you."
A few journalists laughed before the session moved on.
